Autopsy Autopsy vs Swans

Was the game plan when Sam Reid moved back to kick to him at all costs or is this just severe lack of skills and competence going in to the 50?

Witches hats. It may not show up on TV but at the ground where eventually I watched where the ball wasn't it stood out. The amount of blokes not in the immediate contest who were flat footed or completely stationary. Such a lethargic effort tonight.

Absolutely this. Even after the first quarter I couldn't believe we were still in the game. Swans should have been up by at least 6 goals

I thought this would happen this week. Make no mistake Sydney are a very good football team who started the year terribly. They will play finals.

As usual against Sydney we get killed in the midfield and I think that group are finding that you can't just rely on Swallow to get 12 tackles a game to stop some of those easy burst exits we saw time and time again. I don't lay hardly any blame on the forwards or defence today because the mids were awful except for Higgins and Cunners in second half.

Forward structure was way off today. Sydney had the double team on brown on every occasion and without another damaging forward to draw the ball tonight we were screwed.

Out coached this week was brad.

It's not all doom and gloom though - we still need to keep in mind this is really a transition year so we aren't going to win every game. We had Simpkin, Durdin, EVW, Hrovat, Dumont, Clarke, Wood, Turner all under 50 games. It will take time and we will lose regularly.

Pos:
- Turner excellent - having a great season. Coach would love him
- Taz very good again
- Higgins
- Cunners tried hard all game
- EVW - some mistakes but geez he will be a good footballer for us.

Neg:
- Midfield unit was destroyed
- Proving the Waite theory is correct

Take the loss this week and just move on. Sometimes the other side just plays brilliantly - I thought Sydney were excellent - best performed team we have played this year

Our run was non existent. Swans did as they pleased around the middle.

Turner and Tarrant both good. Cunnington solid in the 2nd half.

Luke was atrocious. So were plenty of others.

Season over and quite a few injured atm making too many changes tricky.

And just like that I revert to my R1-5 mindset that I am seeing younger players given the big jobs and I can live with seeing those younger teams give it a shot and lose and for once get a decent shot at draft/trade season.

I really would have loved to win the last quarter and everyone walk away feeling better about the game. And it would have been good to see our forward line function better/get better support from up the ground. But, like the Eagles game, I am surprisingly unbent about that experience.

Having said that, if those supporters who complained had been sitting near me for the rushed goal deliberate, and the non HTB followed by the deliberate against Brown, I'd have missed a fair bit of the match after being thrown out too.

Sydney kicked many easy goals tonight. The amount of easy goals was about the margin....if not more. We had made teams earn their goals this year but tonight it was easy for them...partly due to the midfield being next to non existent apart from The Head and Cunnington in the 2nd half who was a monster.

I thought Goldy's ruck work was A LOT better today. Some of it was brilliant.

If Goldy was playing for the Giants you could lock them in for the Premiership. Our mids are so poor/inconsistent at stoppages that even when they have it rammed down their throats they turn it over by fumble or mis kick or handball.

Id rather go into games with a cardboard cut out in the ruck and some A+ mids than Goldy and co.

I officially have no understanding of what constitutes illegal disposal in the modern game.
Umpires hide behind the idea it jars free in the tackle.

IMHO it's that they simply don't have the stones to make a call and be shown it to be wrong.

Negatives:

-Atley should never play for NMFC again. he is a hack
- Durdin, back him to come good, but can't be playing AFL seniors atm, not up to it
- Ziebell has been poor all year, needs a lift.
-Dumont utterly shameful today, but would persist, needs to become more consistent though
- Brown is no messiah like some on this forum build him up to be, can only mark on the lead
- Clarke needs am extended stretch in the VFL, juts doesn't do the team things well enough, turnstiles.
- Brad Scotts coaching today.. what was he thinking playing one marking target? Brown has never taken a contested mark in his career.. Majak or Preuss would've been handy to create a contest today
- Wood took a large step back today, needs to learn to get involved more and show some vigour. Think he just had an off day, backing him in to find form back over next few rounds

Positives:

- Roberto Tarantino, unreal, simply unreal performance. so committed to the cause, kept the best forward in the afl near anonymous today. Where would we be without him?
- Thought Cunnington toiled hard all day, really had a dip despite not all his work coming off
- Turner was immense. the kid can kick goals an tackle, lethal combination- reckon he's a decade long small forward for us
- EVW- despite a rookie error in getting turned inside out by McVeigh, he is gonna be a star. 21 solid disposals, and seems to (most of the time) have a cool head on his shoulders
- Higgins is silk, him and Kelly in tandem will be elite next year
- LOVED Marley standing up to Franklin, getting in his face and not being bullied. terrific from him. need soft blokes like Atley to take notice

I reckon its a directive and nothing to do with umps... Just keep the game moving and only pay the blatant ones like chase downs etc

Gillon the ****knuckle has ****ed the game. Cant wait for him to heck tight off... Agree with Jacko(lol) the rules of the game should be locked away in some heritage council where if you want a rule changed, then you apply, they assess and then make a decision...

The problem is the game that we watch is a product.

It's not a sport.

Well the thing is when they do replace that fish out of water Maclachlan; they'll replace him with a CEO from a big company only interested in putting the AFL higher in the black which probably wont have the fans interest at heart in the expense of the dollar.
