**** me there's some doom and gloom here.

Yes this has been a frustrating season, but we're a West Coast win vs a smashed up Carlton away from needing to beat Port on our own deck. Play like we did today and I reckon that happens.

GWS are a phenomenal team. They realised that if they bombed it in they were a good chance to mark or have the smalls feast. And feast they did. Hogan may have got the goals, but it was Brent Daniels that torched us, ably helped by Jones and Greene. We barely lost an old fashioned shootout where we missed three absolute sodas, Amiss hit the opposite post with a ricochet on the line, and two stupid 50s.

Quit your crying and bemoaning how shit we are. We aren't. We've made huge strides this year (the fact we could make finals on percentage speaks volumes), and look to be bringing in some serious talent over the off-season.

Cox is coming from a long way back, but has never been the 1-v-1 guy anyway, that's Pearce.

Amiss was off on some set shots, but **** me he's a sublime talent. He'll work it out.

Young is tiring, unsurprisingly, as is Sharp.

Chappy was great today, NOD showed he may not be a write-off (could'vewon us the game), and Sturt played the best game I've seen in purple, defensively and offensively was scrapping all day.

Our structure won't change now. Reidy wasn't amazing, but he was enough for it to be a benefit coming in.

Matty Johnson was hard at it all day, such a strong kid, got to be blind not to see what he's shaping to be. Should've kicked two today, but that'll come.

I couldn't give a **** about this season. We may still make finals, ****, if everyone's back, we could win it. But it'll be what it'll be. We're going to be in the mix from next year for a while, enjoy it.

I missed the game as it started at 4 over here and I was pissed and playing xbox until 2am but this is my take way from when I turned the match on:

Banners did something stupid again.
TNT sports cut the game off with 2 minutes to go because it over ran the schedule.

That is all.

**** me there's some doom and gloom here.
That's what tends to happen when you're 3rd at round 20 and now look likely to miss finals. Neither of these losses are bad losses with the huge experience/age gap and the players missing, but when they cost you what should have been a certain finals spot no one's going to be happy.

I agree that the crying of how shit we are and how our future is ****ed etc etc is a bit much but we've thrown away a season where we had as good a chance as any to make a play for the flag. It's as close a season as ever. Not likely we get another chance with such little Vic teams in the 8 and such an even matchup.

Totally expected result.
Worst on field was Banfield closely followed by Jackson, who had one mark which was the kick from Amiss. He has 0 presence around the ground and 0 impact in almost any aerial contest. I get that his best is still to come but he just gets pushed out of the marking contest so easily.
Hogan being the best forward in the comp made Cox look worse IMO.
Nice of Frederick to turn up for a half.
Serong was again our best small forward. A player that stands front and square to the marking contest. Who would've thought? I mean, it's only been the correct place for smalls to be for the last 150 years of AFL football.
Looking at the ladder, all of the crap clubs are back where they should be.
Us, Carlton, Essendon, St Kilda, Richmond. Doggies are right on the line. The clubs that continue to dissapoint their fans disappoint again. Normal service has resumed. Richmond have at least had 5 good years in the last 45, Dee's and Dogs got a flag, but yeah, we're all just back where we'll always be.

I applaud your optimism.
That said we were just a couple of injuries less or a couple of bounces a ball our way to being top 4 and even top 2.

This year has definitely shown that anyone can win it and we were in that mix if a few things fell our way.

No guarantees next year. What if Treacy does an ACL? Or one of our midfield 3 become injured?

We were a bees dick away.

Supporting Freo in a nutshell.

Yeah he seemed to have more genuine effort today but he’s still fumbling the ball , dropping marks making poor decisions, not hitting scoreboard enough
All things he’s definitely capable of

For the elite talent we know he is he just has to do better then merely give us “effort”

Also agree ,thought Voss was ok today , remember was lined up on Taylor all day who’s the best kpd in the game bar none
Annoying that players ask for a handball receive even though that player can just go on and kick it himself.
Banfield to Jackson. What is the point of that ?
Why didn’t Jackson just say go on Banners, I’ll block. The %ers kill me.
Instead Banfield is trying to get involved, didn’t notice the player going after Jackson until too late

Well said.

One thing that I can't wrap my head around is the fact that we kept Cox on Hogan the entire game. He had like 5 shots on goal in the first quarter. That's more than enough to tell you that it wasn't working. Why did we persist? Chapman did great on Cameron last week, Draper has the athleticism to keep up with him. Yet we choose the slowest guy on the field to go with him.

And isn't that the joy, though? We're a chance. A good chance in fact, but ultimately luck may decide otherwise.

100 per cent. We were lucky he didn’t have 5 on us by quarter time. Was a realistic chance to have kicked 10 out there today.

Look I agree with a lot of what you have just said..

However you saying Cox has never been a 1-v-1 guy? WTF is he in the backline then? Gee I have never ever bagged him but ever since the Essendon game he has given me the shits. Yeah he was injured etc but by now he should be getting some touch back. The guy is slooooowwww with his decision making and how TF do you give Jesse that much space all game. Someone else said it earlier the closest he got all game to Jesse was his little hug and chats at the start of the game. It was a joke how much space he gave Jesse. Embarrassing…

But we weren’t shit apart from Banfield and Cox the rest of the team I thought really showed up and we actually could have won it.

We will beat Port next week and we will play finals. Lookout once Treacy and Alex are back…

Lost the possession count and the tackle count. We were out worked again. We get beaten by teams that try harder than us.

I'd say it is more the fact that we can't tackle for shit.

It's kind of incredible just how much of an impact two players had on that result. Either one of them decides to not play the worst game of their careers and we win that.

Cox made an AA squad because he got to play on 2nd and 3rd talls while Pearce did all the dirty work. And don't get me wrong, he was great at that role, but he's no where near a replacement for Pearce.

Cox is underdone, and could not go with Hogan who runs all day.

Does not have fitness base.

I think he needs next week off, but I doubt Dixon out runs him next week.

You are aware he lost his dad to cancer and then got testicular cancer himself just before he came to us right?

Hang your head in shame mate

Jesse should be extremely proud of himself
An explanation is not an excuse. He kicked 50 goals for Melbourne the season after that happened.

He came to us on good money and spent his weekends on the piss flipping over cars. He had a job to do and did anything but do it.

He should not be proud of himself. He ****ed around the entire time he was here and only once he realised that his career was in jeopardy did he start taking shit seriously.

Just like Stengle ****ing around Adelaide so hard and then making AA for Geelong after they gave him one last chance to not **** up his life even more.
