They beat Geelong, Sydney, Giants, West Coast lost to Hawthorn, Collingwood and Tigers in that run so winning more games than they lost against top 8 sides. That's a hell of a lot better than Collingwood and Melbourne and probably better than most finals sides.
Add in an AA mid and FF and they are as well placed as anyone
Edit all the Richmond, colllingwood and Hawks games were very close so not far off

I think we are going to be a powerhouse going forward, I wanted Shiel but I wasn't all in like many on here (mainly because of the price). There is no denying though that the year we just had didn't paint a very impressive picture. It was always going to a difficult task in selling us to a player who went through a tough build in his younger years.

Did you see our injury list?
Brendon Bolton also lost the plot with his game plan this year.

Both should be much much better next year.

I am scrubbing 2018, it did not happen.
We go back to 2016/2017 form but with a better fitness/injury base and our green shoots sprouting.

Now we do not have Shiel to worry about, how does that make MM suddenly worth a first round pick?

Would not waste our two second rounders to get a mid first for him.

We beat them.

Geelong and Sydney are overrated wins.
West Coast and Giants wins were against undermanned teams.

They always wilt when it really matters.

Oh come on, setterfield might be a great get in future, but he won’t improve us much next year, he can’t, he’s less experienced than Dow.

I’m sorry if I think that very good mature midfielders are more important right now than injured young kids that we can get for cheap, but the latter seems to be SOS’s only winning strategy.

THIS 100%. Setterfield and McLovin are injury prone potential players, likewise Kennedy.

Would prefer Barlow than Dunstan or Tyson.

We have two years to show Cripps we can protect and support him and challenge for finals. We can't afford to lose another year.

Or everyone is far too busy to give any info right now.

If he chooses Essendon as a diehard childhood blues fans he’s a ******* dog. Simple.

Setterfield...

It's ok for an * supporting player to select Carlton.

It's NOT ok for a Carlton supporting player to select *.

C'mon man. I thought we ALL knew this!?!?! ;)

I don't know about you guys.
But i am exhausted emotionally.
SOS going to have to do something surely we need to add 2 more midfielders this year to stay competitive

We already have pick 42.

My point being that I don't see #42 being in our hands for long.

Soapy made a very good point, however - it definitely fits Silvagni's MO to bring in a pick or two this year via next year's picks.

One way or another, though, I still see us having a very quiet second day of the draft, with only a few late picks to play with, potentially.

I feel sorry for cripps. Hopefully he gets some help next year!

I think this needs help thing is a bit overstated. We have solid bodies like Curnow and Kennedy to throw in there at the contest. The problem is more Cripps just wills himself into so many contests it looks like he's doing it all himself when reality is he's so competitive it's hard to keep him away from said contests .

Oh come on mate let’s look at those wins properly. WC had no Kennedy or Darling. Every time they played together this year they won. Cats are shit. Tigers were a game or 2 clear on top and probably should have lost that game to win a flag. Giants were in a bad form slump and they got them at the perfect time (much like we got the druggies in a form slump). They lost to hawks (a good, not great team) and pies twice this year. So please, whilst I rate the druggies as a good team, look a little closer at those games doesn’t show much. FFS the giants beat the swans as well!
