Because when Sinclair and Naismith went down with injury, they chose to play one less KPD with Aliir Aliir in the ruck instead of Cameron. That's generally not a good sign.

The other thing is that there's quite a few athletic 200cm+ players in this years draft that may be available with our back end picks. If we want to have a free shot, just draft the most athletic ruck we can find and see how they develop with a few years in the system.
I don’t get to see him play NEAFL so I don’t have a strong opinion on him but listening to Sydney posters talk about young developing Ruckman as a need does worry me abit.

Sorry ODN I always listen and know you have far more sources than me I just don’t rate Gray at all. I’d rather give Polson more of a go than him but it’s only my opinion which probably counts for bigger all
In his career Gray has had a 37 disposal game, a 13 tackle game and a 6 goal game. Imagine Polson doing any of those things. I think the hate for him is getting a bit ridiculous, good cheap option imo.

How many are ready to play straight away?

None, but you'll never find a diamond in the rough with these types of trades.

You need to trade for underrated players in teams with a surplus in their position. Cameron doesn't match this criteria so it would be a no from me.

A perfect example of a player matching the above criteria is Shai Bolton. He has shown the ability to turn it on at the top level, but struggles for regular games due to a plethora of small forwards at Richmond competing for limited positions.

I will settle for 28 touches, 5 tackles, 4 goals as he produced against North Melbourne this season...

Has Polso had a 37 touch, 13 tackle, 6 goal season yet?

Ruckman notoriously peak early and are often at their best in their first 4 years in the system.

After that they often decline quickly.

Few ruckman of note play well into their 30's.

Can't believe 4 people in the handful posts after this took it seriously. I get sarcasm is hard to pick online but come on... (unless I've missed context in earlier pages and this is a real opinion, which I'd doubt)

No, I genuinely have no sources at the moment. I was being serious.

Listening to him on SEN earlier today, I don’t think there is much chance of him coming to Vic; unless pushed out by his club. He seems very committed to the Crows; and thank goodness for that because we don’t need him.
He would easily slot into our defence and be the most experienced backman other than Simmo

Not sure of the credentials of this fella (the trade whisperer) but he says:

BLUES BUYING BIG After a confirmed meeting with Jack Martin and approaches to Tom Papley and Eddie Betts, The Blues have their eyes on an #AFLTrades spending spree. With an eye to small dynamic forwards, #TheWhisp can confirm approaches to out of contract players (cont...k

Including Adelaide’s Hugh Greenwood, Tiger Dan Butler and forgotten rising Lion Lewis Taylor. However, it is an audacious approach to a contracted Sun that has seen tensions flare between Gold Coast and the aggressive Blues...(cont)

Former top 5 pick Ben Ainsworth is the surprising name most recently linked to the Blues. An aggressive small forward/mid with leadership potential, Ainsworth is considered a viable “back-up” should a proposed Papley deal fall through.

Umm, Ainsworth....yes please!!

I haven't seen any full matches of him at NEAFL level either.

I'm just concerned by his inability to break into Sydney's team given there were no ruckmen competing for the position.

If Sydney rated him, they would have played him.

Seems like a wasted list spot with Casboult playing very good footing in a ruck/forward role.

Just got this of the main board.

Hey all long time reader, first time poster. I have it first hand from the mouth of the man himself, Sam Gray will be wearing the navy blue next year. Im pretty good mates with 50 shades of Sam and he personally will be at Carlton due to Ports salary problems and Swans wanting to keep a hold of Papley. There are a lot of internal problems behind closed doors.

Never find a diamond in the rough with cheap trades?

There are examples every year which prove that incorrect.

Not saying that.

I'm saying that you're more likely to find a diamond in the rough or a very good player when you're targeting fringe players in teams with a surplus in their position.

Cameron couldn't get a game when there were no other fit ruckmen on their list. That's a red flag in my book.

Just saying that given the circumstances of Sydney's year, he's not a player I would target or spend a list spot on.

Yeah, nah. I prefer Jonsey, and Weitering, as the KPDefensive heads.
Each to their own but a 27yo 2012 Rising star, 2014 & 2016 All Australian backman (nominated 2019) would easily hold full back in our team any day of the week. I suppoze getting him out of Adelaide is the real argument.

with Kruezer phillips tdk harry mckay maybe casboult on list do we need a developing ruck type . 3 rucks in the VFL this year was a disaster how much time will TDK spend in ruck if we take a Darcy type? unless they plan on developing TDK as a forward.
Have "wanted" Cameron since his draft year, but fair to say has been a slow burn. Reading between the lines, either injuries or attitude have slowed his progress. His first couple of years WAFL seconds then seniors, played a lot of full forward with good results. He will provide a much better balance than
Lobbe. Levi is not yet confirmed as staying, and for that matter there has been no announcement that Phillips has accepted his one year offer.

If Kreuze hangs on for another couple of years and TDK comes on after a big pre season, there will be massive pressure on Cameron to work his butt off to maximise his talents or be forever depth. If he works out "Sauce" Phillips would be gone end of next year, meaning if his manager can find a multi year gig, he may consider a move.
