They would want to win one because after that 2 years they will crash back down fast. Will have a lot of talent retiring by then.
Looks like they are going all in on trying to steal one more flag with a lot of their great players coming to the end.
They'll be taking over Hawthorn in terms of senior player numbers on the list.
Besides Dangerfield who could play on for another five years, they will loose quit a few in the next few years.

Don't have an issue with Selwood drawing free kicks. It's good game craft, well within the rules, nothing stopping other players from doing it, just a lack of ability stopping them from being as good. Simple solution, better tackling technique. Tackle him right and he can't shrug but he positions and sidesteps so well it's hard. Quite simply it makes him a good player.

It's actually a genuine issue with out team, we badly lack the ability to draw free kicks. It's a lack of game craft, unwillingness to put the head over the footy and take a hit and a lack of strength through the core and shoulders. That's an issue we have with our young players and something we must get better at.

Hugely underrated the ability to break a tackle or half break it so you can get an effective handpass away. Players who are good at this, generally the side effect is winning a lot of high free kicks but they are also the ones who are great at winning the contested ball and being damaging with their possessions.

We spend a lot of time complaining we aren't getting a good ride from the umpires. Lack of ability to draw free kicks and a lot of the time a lack of elite pressure is the reason for that. Not umpire bias or anything like that.

Nothing wrong with drawing free kicks as long as it's not something that consumes a players game. You need that in your team, it's one little aspect that gives you a bit more of an edge.

I think the starting point here is winning the ball or at the very least being in a better position to win it, which either allows the chain of possession to start, or drawing a free, for high contact/holding.

As for our tall forwards such as Harry, they need to work hard to create separation, to gain front position which will lead to more marks or drawing frees for arm chops, tunneling or forcing the ball to ground

Yes, by FAR these are the reasons we do not do well in free kicks, not some AFL conspiracy. Our young, weak players get ragdolled or fail to really stick tackles effectively, and do not have the game craft (good term!) to manipulate 50-50 calls in our favour. Trying to win every contest on pure talent and athletic ability is noble and all, but the good players and teams also make sure they get the umpire's assistance too.

I don't think he has, at least not officially, and I very much doubt Geelong will agree to move him if he does.

Very good young mid and with Geelong's ageing midfield you'd expect a more permanent spot to open up sooner rather than later.

He is not the Geelong mid I would be going for this year.
Article definitely said it was an official request.
Cited lack of opportunities.
Easy to believe with Geelong chasing every twilight aged mid in the league

There is definitely a big move (and plan B big move) being worked on at player management level; given how media/news can derail, partially laid plans, news of this will surface after the season has ended for the club(s) involved. 😀💰🗝📩
Frantically googles players who baracked for Carlton as a kid.

Why on earth would we need Constable?

It's funny how different clubs' boards seem to get hung up on certain players. (Generalising)
This board is Cerra and Constable but when given our time again, Stephenson and Worpel (who were both respectively taken later) would have made for much the better options for our club.

Christensen? Maybe but for little. Very little. 5th rounder little.
I posed a question for the fact that he suits our age group and is keen to prove himself away from Geelong.

I'd rather Constable than Martin or Papley.

Big bodied midfielder who can rack up possessions at AFL level? Averaged 22+ possessions per game as a second-year midfielder, playing mostly 60-70% game time. Exactly what we need to develop and help share the load with Cripps, and exactly what we don't have at all, anywhere on the list.
That one through to the keeper😶

This makes sense. Would guess he would come cheap (a lot cheaper than the pick 21 the Lions paid for him) or free. Haven’t followed his career in much detail but he was in the Lions Best 22 until he injured his hamstring in Round 22. He may prefer going back to the Cats but he probably could get more games with us next season. I would prefer a Papley-Ah Chee combo but Papley and Christensen would also be OK.

I personally hope we have made contact with AhChee to see if he'd at least consider coming down to us particularly with Martin being a very strong possibility too, besides Papley imo he's such a better player than all these other fringe players being linked to us through media reports...

Nah, I reckon if you play for free kicks it's dodgey, and should not be encouraged. Sure try and break the tackle, but the moment you deliberately duck or bend your knees at the point of contact, you've caused the free and shouldn't be rewarded.
Just need to look at the response of the players around the guy who gets the "cheapy" to know they are cheating the rules.
Duckwood and Mathieson have not enhanced their reputation as footballers by employing these strategies.
Murphy most times is trying to get free of the tackler, rather than draw a free kick, but it should be play on or holding the ball if it goes wrong.

Every chance it happens, but nothing official yet.

I can see him wanting out depending on who they bring in, but can’t see the Cats letting him go.

Regardless, he wouldn’t be my #1 target from the Cats. There are a couple of names I’d strongly consider before Constable.

I don't get to see many Geelong games these days but surely Menegola would be worth a shot?

Nobody is infallible.

After all someone got Fasolo to the club even though fans said he was cooked and no good anymore at the time.
Fosolo's best was worth the risk. Poor list management would be offering Faz a three year deal. Good list management is offering Faz an opportunity to get to his best and if not politely but firmly inform him he can 'retire' or be delisted.

Who would you target at the Cats?

There are a few, for various reasons.

Parfitt
Menegola
Bews
Narkle
S Selwood

Parfitt you would think is the most unlikely to move, but he is a real favourite of mine, so would certainly ask the question.

The others might be gettable, many will disagree, but would look at them for sure.

His best hadn't been seen for quite a while.

So if Cameron gets a year then fine. Anymore and it's highly puzzling as to why as the people who rate him are almost non existent.

Isn’t Bews a FA, that makes him appealing and Menegola next year is a UFA, which might make the Cats want to move him on, I rate him and he wouldn’t cost much.
