Our forward-line functioning together rarely occurs, and has been like that for way too long. Fix it please with everyone working to a plan/space/isolation/crumbing positions, including skills (and vision) improving the delivery by the midfielders.

2025 small/med forwards incl ZW, EH are both crafty kicks. C. Durd’s can hit up a lead. Moir is highly skilled.

In D50 we spoil toward danger areas and blled from ground balls, in F50 it gets spoiled away from danger areas and blleed rebounds from groundballs.

Love the ideaof Williams Kemp and Moir running through the F50, but we need some more tackling pressure too. Dont think we can have those 3 and Motlop unless 3 of the 4 are playing accountably.

Hopefully Fogarty fully recovers and our pick 3 can also go forward and lay a tackle and be dangerous.

I’m not upset about pick 38 for Chugga, I would have been livid if we traded 32 for Kemp though.

I’m pumped we won’t be trying to put a square peg in a round hole trying to fit in Kennedy and allow us to have more pace in the team

Couldn’t agree more. When the Saints came knocking at the end of the trade period for Kemp the responses on here about what his value was (first round draft pick) were not matched with reality. From what I have seen of him he doesn’t have any midfield qualities…endurance, ball winning ability, burst from stoppage.

The reality is he is a failed backman who I think should be given a chance up forward next year….but just because he played well against West Coast doesn’t mean it’s a sure thing he succeeds in that role. It’s a “make or break” year for him in 2025.

If I was a betting man I’d say it’s more likely he is just an average AFL footballer (still a good result for him) rather than a star of the game.

As a starting point he has a very good leap..

Couple of things he should work..

• Time his leaps a bit better
• Grab the ball more often

He could work on burst speed as well to give him a bit more of an edge when running on leads.

In combination with Dow, Kemp was terrific at stoppages and broke the lines well to damage the Falcons going forward. Kemp’s steps through traffic and ability to dispose effectively with opponents near made him crucial to Bendigo’s form, with the second term his clear best. #8 Brodie Kemp

Impressive across the four quarters, he kicked the Pioneers’ opening goal of the game with a ripping shot to bend the ball back through the big sticks in the right forward pocket. He took a great mark at half-forward then kicked low in favour of Caleb Fisher in the pocket. With time and space he can be real damaging, and it is just tightening up the kicking when under pressure at speed. Kept winning it and has a knack of spinning out of trouble. Good hands in traffic too.

As you can see, he split time between midfield and forward in what little NAB League he played in 2019, averaging just shy of 5 clearances a game.

Kemp was a hard worker through the midfield for the academy side, he played the role as the tall big bodied midfielder and played it well with clean hands at the stoppages and staying string in the contest. Kemp’s best bit of play came in the last quarter where he burst out of a stoppage with his run and kicked a bullet pass inside 50 which was dropped by his teammate. Kemp finished the game with 12 disposals and four clearances.

At the Champs, his first two games were in defence due to coaching fears around their defensive stocks, but he dominated the games, stringing up intercepts and bolting out of defence with the ball.

Was the hero of the day, slotting an ice-cool set shot with the last kick of the game to give Country a miraculous win. While Kemp’s strong overhead mark and clinical conversion was the talking point at the final siren, he had already proved his worth earlier in the day. The big-bodied Bendigo product finally enjoyed an extended run through the midfield and was even used forward on the back of his strong overhead capabilities, amassing 27 disposals, seven marks, five clearances, and four inside 50s. Kemp’s cleanliness in snapping up the ball and using it by foot made him so effective early on as he accumulated strongly, working well at stoppages and linking into the forward arc in general play. He just seemed to get into the right spots and made the most of each touch, exemplified best with his game-winning play. Will be moving up draft boards on the back of his versatility and one-touch ability, and will look to finish off the carnival strongly on Wednesday.

Another standout game for Country and continues his ascent up draft boards with some crucial marks inside 50. He booted two goals from four scoring shots, and always threatened to be a danger in the air. One of the few consistent Country performers across the game, Kemp spent a lot of time on the inside and then went forward, winning 11 contested possessions and taking two contested marks. His strength in the air or at ground level was clear, and he was able to pump the ball inside 50 on numerous occasions. While he still made some mistakes by foot, Kemp was another player who took risks and was willing to put it on the line to try and win the championships for Country. A deserving All Australian member.

So arguably the top key position prospect coming into the year went to work on his endurance base and forced his way into the midfield, then did it again at the highest level.

I don't think it's fair to say it's 'strange'... unlikely as it may be there's nothing wrong people wanting the coaches to try a few new things. I think he'll struggle to get consistent games next year unless he bulks up considerably to play a KPP role so why not let him train with the midfield and see how he goes before committing to that transformation? Soapy has also mentioned that he had a few runs on ball in pre season 2024 and dominated so it might not be that far fetched.

I'd like to see Cow tried on ball and Elijah half back, it may not be likely, but I don't think it's 'strange' to say a player may thrive in a role we haven't yet seen much of from them.
