Grundy will not reach his lofty heights of 18/19 and AA status unless he changes his game around as I’ve stated previously at infinitum. That’s because the opposition won’t let him do what he was doing then. Which was following up and getting a second or even third go at the ball. No one knew how to deal with him. Until the GWS and Mummy started to bash and crash him. Mummy would barely win a tap. But he made sure that by the end of the game. Grundy’s strengths were all taken from him. Physically and mentally……
Are you guys not watching the games. All the Ruckman against him now make sure they bash and crash into him and take him away from getting that second effort. That’s why it’s imperative he start tapping to his teammates and applying blocks so they can take the ball away and not him. Because the opposition now make sure they are on him closely when he does get the ball he is unable to effectively kick it and is either grabbed, pushed or tackled to the ground and invariably turns the ball over.
I’m not making this shit up. That’s what’s happening. His aerobic capacity and strength at the contest give him attributes that he could easily use to turn things around and benefit us a lot more that what he is currently doing. It’ll be better for him as he won’t be continually getting crunched in heavy tackles. He moves well around the ground. Can generally mark it most of the time in clear space.
If he does this, he’ll play for longer. He’ll give us more options in defense and attack to support those areas. And it’s paramount that he learns to share his load with the other ruck.
No one’s asking Grundy to become Dusty. But he can still get his similar outputs and bring others into the game that will benefit us more that just him shouldering the responsibility with his current style of play.

Very astute observations Ronny , is it a bridge to far for him to adjust his game to become relevant again ? does he recognise his current weaknesses,? at which you pointed out , are many , he may have a high IQ as an individual, but he is not a smart footballer who has a natural instinct for the state of play , or will he be happy to remain a good/average player whose impact and connection with our mids continue to deteriorate, others may hope , but the realities are he will continue to fall by the wayside .
That’s in his and the coaching panels hands. I know this much. Last year when Lynch played his final game for us. Now let’s be honest. Lynch doesn’t hold a candle to Grundy. However, Lynch realized if he got the ball to where it needed to be, our mids would do the rest. And he could concentrate getting from contest to contest and taking the odd mark and block any holes and guard space when turnovers occurred. And he did and looked every bit as good as Grundy had all year. It’s whether he could sustain that effort all year would be the question for Lynch.
Grundy doesn’t have that problem. Has has all the attributes needed. He just has to want to change and want to work at changing his game style. Don’t give the opposition the same and then expect a different result. I do hope that Grundy changes over this year. His strength is needed.

It's becoming the Grundy metamorphosis thread. While the rest of the team collapses around him, he is going to emerge from the first ten rounds as a younger and more skilled version of himself.
Remember when Grundy was good... Thank christ we're not paying him an enormous sum of cash for a long period of time, that'd suck...

Witts is a better player at the moment. Could have had him for 2/3 or Grundy’s price.

Another markless performance. He was pretty good in the last quarter. But without him being an aerial presence he is just another ruckman.
He beat his opponents but didn't dominate.
Remember when he used to pretty much be an extra midfielder? He barely gets involved in any chains anymore. Which admittedly isn't what you always want your ruckman doing, but I think its symptomatic of his fall from his dominant days.

He actively cost us field position with his woeful clearances straight to Brisbane players. He was more effective for Brisbane than his opponents would have been if they "won."
Grundy needs to be the sole ruckman, rucking 90% of the time.
Having Cox and Cameron in the side just took away Grundy's biggest asset. He was having less game time than Cox and Cameron at 3 quarter time. 3 ruckman just does not work.
The forward line needs to be Mihocek, Kreuger (chopping out 10% of the ruck contests) and Reef/Ash Johnson as that third leading tall.

He's broken even in pretty much every game this season. He looked like he was gonna beat Nic Nat, but then Nic Nat's last quarter dragged the Eagles over the line.
Other than that, he's split the points with Marshall/Hayes, O'Brien, Stanley, and now probably the worst ruck duo in the league, Big O and Fort.
He's not getting beat, but man, what I wouldn't give to see a vintage Grundy performance again where he just dictates terms. We haven't had once since he tore Tim English to shreds in the last game before COVID stopped the league.
I miss Brodie Grundy!

I thought he was ineffective for 3/4. But that last quarter was one of his best for the year. Some terrific ruck work which I haven’t seen for a long time. Haven’t seen the stats but in the first 3/4 more or less he gave frees away, turned it over and was unremarkable (no pun intended) but redeemed himself in the last; good on him.
Edit: just saw the stat above. 43% efficiency is not a good stat. No marks is obviously not good enough.

The last quarter was really good. Some super important ruck work in our forward 50, and that tap to Pendlebury in the back half was class.
A whole game of it would be nice
