Oppo Camp Brodie Grundy (Traded to Melbourne 2022)

Grundy is an AA ruckman.
He has just been judged on kicking 3 goals playing forward.

If it was Gawn and Cameron in tandem yesterday, could Cameron have kicked 3 goals in the forward line yesterday? Probably. He does has a record of kicking multiple goals playing forward.

I agree Grundy is a far better ruckman than Cameron. However, my comment said nothing about the ruck. It was that Cameron may have also kicked 3 goals playing forward in that game, as he has done previously.

No need to get worked up.

Yep, fair enough.

Probably would've kicked 5 considering the tigers were missing Tarrant

I bet you're a fan of Andrew Tate.

Don’t conflate the issue. What JDG gets up to is his call. Just like Ginnivan. And if he/they think that’s the path they want to take good luck. But they will only end in their demise.

However, if either of them want to apply themselves to their football. Well then, JDG has some serious talent in this game. His game holds up in finals and that’s the biggest time of the year to bring it. If we had others that could help him we could go all the way.

Wow……You are serious……

Thankfully Fly and Co. agree with me and sent Soy Boy on his way.

That you don’t understand what it is that JDG does that sets him apart from the pack explains a lot. Look just enjoy the JDG show this year. And by years end you may understand.

Copeland trophies are for the Dufflecoaters. AA…..Bruzzy was are only one IIRC and yet barely cracked into our top 10 in the Copeland. And don’t let me forget the Stringer reference…..please….so you want him to come back fat, out of conditioning and susceptible to soft tissue injuries.

I do t know what it is you do. But stick with it. You might be better at it than picking footy talent.

Your words
here.... thankfully fly and co agree with me.

You really are a Richard aren’t you

You remind me of my dog, tony. He is a rescue mastiff cross terrier.

Why does he remind me of you.

Well the terrier in him, give him a bone, won’t give up chewing, till it’s gone.

Grundy is now gone, why keep chewing

What?

You don’t agree that he succumbed to his lactose intolerance……

Of course I can see JDG's talent. He's just rarely been consistent which is why he's never achieved those honours over the course of a season. He's a match winner sure but he can also have putrid games. Case in point was his prelim final last year. Probably one of the main reasons we lost that game. At age 27 and as one of the highest paid players at our club, you can't afford to just pop up every few games. He needs to set a standard every game.

You mention Bruzzy. Yep he was AA 2022 and 2nd in our Copeland 2021. You just proved my point. He's clearly shown he can maintain a level of elite talent over the course of a season.

I'm assuming you're a barista given your obsession with soy milk (and potential phobia of it?). Not sure how that helps you pick footy talent.

Our rucks are an area of concern, IMO. I hope to be proven wrong.
Last year you claimed Grundy would be a big loss and that Cameron and Cox weren’t good enough yet we then went onto to our best run of form and made the top 4 with the latter two.

My guess is you’ll be wrong again this season.

I’m not sure we won it due to the ruck.

I agree with us he was overpaid. Melbourne are paying less than his market worth at the moment though.

3 goals for a ruck on $350k? if Cameron kicked 3 goals in a game playing ruck we’d be over the moon.

The Grundy discussion has been mired forever in black and white thinking - and not of the good kind. Black/white … good/bad …. This is what psychotherapists call splitting and it’s also known as cognitive distortion. I.e., people are in fantasy land.

we should just try to be balanced. Grundy and Gawn looked like a powerful setup. Grundy played well and kicked 3 goals which is as good as a ruck can do. He also didn’t dominate otherwise so he wasn’t devastating. Just a good game all round. Better then either of our rucks in our practice match but we knew he was a better player then them anyway, so no surprises. We got McStay and Mitchell who together we figure will be better for the team. Time will tell.
You’ve got it the wrong way round. Melb are paying 600 - 650k per year for Brodie. We are paying the rest..

Nobody really knows but I reckon it’s like this.

Melbourne pays 650-750 ,
Collingwood pays 100-150,
Brodie took a paycut 100,

Total 900-1mil ( not convinced he was ever on 1 mil in the first place)

Collingwood then turned that 750 over five years into 600 by paying it upfront in advance in 2023. That was mitigated by us getting a $300 subsidy for Mitchell, leaving us net out of pocket by $300k. Even lower than that if you factor any Treloar subsidy reduction from 2022 to 2023, which probably also happened.

Do you think Grundy was on unders at $500k before winning his AAs? I don’t. But his AA years elevated him to probably more like Gawn’s salary of $800k pa.

Unfortunately, once that contract was signed, we never saw a $1m pa player. 2019 was 3 seasons ago. Today, he is probably a $650k pa ruckman.
Yes I do. Even before his two AA years, he was top 5 in our BnF for the two years prior 2016/17. He has consistently been one of our best players since 2016 and was only paid as one of our top players from 2021 onwards. Compare that to JDG who has consistently been one of our highest paid since 2018 and still isn't consistently in our top 5 players.

Why would we pay a huge chunk in 2023 when we are in contention? I think you're dreaming if you think Collingwood are only paying 100k per year to Brodie...

Lol JDG our best player? If so how many Copeland's has he won? How many times has he finished in the top 3 of our BnF even? How many AAs?

Sure, JDG has the potential to be our best player. But he's also our most inconsistent player and has never strung it together in a full season. He's less credentialed than Jake Stringer.

You're right that Grundy is not in the same league as JDG. Grundy's proven that he has what it takes to be in a league above.
Jordan De Goey was second in our B&F for votes per game in 2022. He is firmly in our top few players

Probably because there were no decent targets and zero trade value in terms of picks to offer up last year. That and fly wants a decent look at his young players before throwing big money at somebody we might or might not need.

And because it’s not a huge chunk after netting it against the Mitchell subsidy
