Big shout out to Jack Macrae. I thought that early on he was continuing with his recent struggles to get near the ball.

But he seemed to shake of the shackles in the second half and return to the output we have come to expect from guy of his class.

Wait...where's the "Have You Lost Faith in Bevo" thread? 🤔
It's still there. Bevo didn't win this game from the coaching box. Nothing has changed. He still needs to go at season's end.

What about Caleb Daniel putting their giant ruck on his arse.

He's got a habit of doing that in Perth

How good is it to have a four quarter performance!?

That was comprehensive. The big positives are:

We appear much better at defending the ground than last year. Why?

Combination of factors.

1.Jones and O'Brien can both cover the ground as key backs meaning it's only Keath with an iffy gait. JJ is a professional defender and he, Dale and Richards both have wheels. Daniel playing upfield is a smart roll of the dice when you have better belief in your ability to defend.

2. Scott and Baker are getting their head around their roles as wings. Baker has been a really nice addition so far. Stoked with him.

Edit: Scott did play a lot of time forward and Truck was on the wing.

3. The balance forward of the ball is way better. Arty and Cody fly around everywhere applying pressure and we have plenty of means to bring the ball to the ground.

Other positives:

Treloar is playing gorgeous footy. He's a beautiful fit in his natural role. Has really clean hands and just skates along. Nice for our mids to win with a good mid sitting on the sidelines still. I thought Freo's mids put up a fight and were a good test. Especially with Darcy as a really tough matchup for Tim.

Bont would have between 9 and 11 Brownlow votes so far. Good on ya lad.

Other tidbits from the game:

-Our methodical ball use is a strength a lot of the time but does get us into trouble. Frustrating that we show teams our chin sometimes when we just need to take grass and defend honestly when under pressure.

- Walters is a skilful player but his playing for frees is incessant.

How good was that moment when Caleb Daniel put Sean Darcy flat on his ass by the way 😂

In the end it was an interstate win with no real injuries after a hard slog last week in the wet and two straight weeks out of Victoria.

Bont was Bont, Libba was Libba, English’s taps are definitely more to advantage these days, but Liam Jones was effin’ mega when it mattered. A colossus, behemoth, and grizzled, unpassable Viking. Gandalf on the thin bridge of Khazad-*ing-dûm; Freo shall not pass.

Marra’s hands were the best I’ve seen. Great leading patterns too. Truck’s getting a little of that ol’ razzle dazzle back. Daniel off the back of the stoppage back to his hygienic level of cleanliness with the pill. Treloar finding good balance between inside and outside.

Our forward pressure was magnificent in the first half when the heat was on, not only our chasing and tackling, but out set-up around our attacking 50. But most of all, the Handball club is back! Our skills were infinitely better, which meant our spread and ball movement began to look something like it used to. Which as a by-product, our forwards were in a good position and we could lower our eyes and deliver early and direct. And suddenly we looked like we had a forward line.

Yeah, goalkicking was terrible. Looking at you Rory. How come you’re Fred *ing Fanning against us but once you’re ours you can’t hit the side of a barn door? But overall, I suppose more goals than points isn’t horrible.

A quick mention to the entertaining toys-out-of-the-pram Freo nitwits for entertaining me all night.

Love it that it’s probably a flattened beer carton 😆
