List Mgmt. Carlton's 2020 Draft Thread

If tonight is any indication of how long the 1st round of the draft is going to take each year, the idea of splitting the draft over a couple of nights, as was done last year, becomes more & more appealing.

It probably didn't help that we weren't involved in the 1st round & therefore we had to sit back & watch our pick 31 go deeper & deeper into the draft as bids were made on academy picks.
There’s just no need for it to take that long. The meaningless scratchy zoom interviews are one thing, but 5 minutes for every pick? Give the clubs 2 minutes, and let them ask for more time if they need it, like they used to.

So we may have passed up on an unknown quantity to again pick up a known quantity who is not AFL quality? Worse still, he will be used as first call up for a KPD spot.

Nothing will convince me he's not just a pleasant guy who happened to play for Richmond while Austin and Liddle were there.

Agree... But good player for reserves though, just not seniors or for a list spot...

Don't think it's guaranteed...
Read on here the other day, apparently Moore and McDonald have been invited to train with us..

Just leaves the night with some confusion as to what Austin and Co are thinking after two great pick up's.
Rate Durdin and Carroll picks

Absolutely bewildered that we didn't target Ford and Winder given what was unfolding. We need elite skills and burst in front of goal (Ford), and evasiveness, zippy disposal and burst in midfield (Winder).

That's about as much elite talent as you'll ever see in the 50-60 range of a draft. 2020 takes another bizarre twist.

He'd have been my Pick1.

* after JUH
That's as good a top 7 or 8 as you'll see in any draft, and I am also bewildered that we tossed our pick away just to get Saad. The entire off-season process has just been too desperate to secure some targets, with Durdin arguably another example tonight.

You are better than this, J. Saad is elite and provides immediate improvement. Kids take time, we have bought for the present. Got a couple of good kids too. Sleep well and let’s see what tomorrow brings.

I posted a couple of nights ago, in a humorous way, my hope that posters would not behave ungratefully when the 'presents' received in the draft are not what they were hoping for.

Alas those who didn't get the desired 'presents' are showing the exact negativity which has turned the Carlton board from a safe haven for Carlton supporters to celebrate our club, into an unpleasant place to be.

There just seems to be more & more posters who clearly know more than those employed at our club yet somehow do not find themselves gainfully employed at our club or in the AFL generally.

I don't hold out much hope for anything changing given this is no different to how the board was at the time I took a sabbatical from BF. Sadly I think I might need to take a further leave of absence from BF. I've been working on excluding negative, external noise from my life so as not to fall into a black hole of depression, but it would seem being back on BF has been a step in the wrong direction.

Best wishes to the good people on our board & brickbats to the rest.

What are we expecting tomorrows rookie draft
I was just wondering about how many rookie picks we can take later today?.........Kennedy takes 1 spot, and now that Eddie has moved onto the rookie list isn`t that the limit of 4, or is it more........just wondering about a DFA pick as well.......?

Gotta know when to rest and ground one’s self. Take it easy for a while, come back when the tables have turned and the bandwagon is loaded with optimists again ;-p

Just woke up. Has round 3 finished yet or is someone still on the clock?
Just an observation. In the last four of five drafts. We seem to use our last pick in the national draft . To pick an athletic player between 188-192cm williamson, Schumacher, finbar, Carroll . The exception is ramsay

There was also 16 other clubs who didn't take them. Probably a reason.

Club told us they're still after a small forward, a mid and a KPD.
Two down.....one to go.
Exactly. No point picking up anymore rookies to fill up list spots.

Take someone like McDonald or Marsh as a DFA, and save the other list spot for a mid season draft window. Simple, and no need to pick anyone up who we don't need.

Draft time is a funny time. You’re never going to please everyone. It’s like Christmas and is akin to why I now give everyone gift vouchers - go make your own mistake/ #get what YOU want. I was cringing/hopeful as our picks approached. Glad it wasn’t Rowe, glad it wasn’t Wehr. Happy enough it was Durdin as we need that pressure forward, ecstatic with Carroll, bargain pick, but that’s my opinion. Winder would have been ok, Ford I didn’t rate. But that’s the draft through the eyes of one sheep in the top paddock, we can’t lose our shit over picks in the 30’s. And you can’t cry over spilt milk (Pick 8). We’ve got 5 new players that we need to now get behind.

As a side, I hope we get young Walsh today, great project ruck, and also that Oscar McDonald signs on. That would make me pretty happy. Go Blues.

Nah that was 48, which became 38 after trading with the cats.

Which became Carroll
