I was expecting similar when I checked

They had 13 inside 50s in the first quarter & seemed very efficient when going forward

They had 18 in the second quarter, but didn't have that same efficiency - the ball just seemed to live in that area though, so maybe that's why it felt like it could have been a lot more

The 3rd quarter it was 14, and then 15 in the last

So it's interesting that the first quarter was their lowest inside 50 tally, but ended up their highest scoring quarter - maybe we became better at limiting the ease of them moving the ball forward so the entries weren't as clean, versus simply limiting the entries

One I50 from a centre bounce can be worth more 5 repeat I50 wide against a set defence. If only their was some expected score based off I50 to compliment the one focused on conversion.

Also Jack Bowes was good all night
Danger is an animal who just simply refuses to give up on a contest
Knev did some nice things and loved seeing him get that goal late, team was more balanced tonight so I hope he keeps his spot

You could see at the ground after he kicked that goal he felt that he belonged. I think that will be a critical moment in his career.

Credit to Cats midfielders, big effort today.
They have been heavily criticised for weeks.
Despite conceding size and experienced
Kerbed Dons stoppage takeaway effectiveness
Made the most of their limited takeaways

Scott had the Cats flood the centre square
Slowing Dons attacking transition game.
Sticking the tackles and forcing play wide,
Allowing time for defensive zone to set up.
Managing to shift the momentum Cats way.
Cats controlled momentum for the 2nd half
Continuing to build form as the game went on

Senior Cats were a steadying influence all game.
Bringing in the younger players into the game.
Pleased with the Neale Knevitt Humphries trio.
Each showed enough class, skill and poise...
Earned kudos to be played a few more weeks
Confident they will develop into good footballers

Cats may not win the Premiership in 2024
Dempsey deserves to win the Rising Star award.

In advance of the game, someone asked the question who does Humphries play like?

I said Andrew Mackie - what do other people think?

(He also seems ambidextrous! Comfortable either foot.)

Duncan was cramping and they didnt want him to ping a calf again. But otherwise i agree.

Im not a fan of this ruck issue and we wont keep getting away with it. Must bring in conway next week.

Neale needs to go back to the vfl and work on his intensity.

But id keep humphries and knevitt in.

Better selection just need to drop one or two more vets next week (they will be but will probably be 'managed').
Neale was much better Than I expected he would be. He competed well. He cannot go back to the VFL as we do not have another tall forward unless we play Phoenix Foster

I see a bit of Christensen in him by the way he moves.

Geelong's forward line looked so much more dynamic without Hawkins. Neale didn't do a lot but he was mobile and provided a contest. SamDK in the ruck and around the ground provides a lot more than Stanley and even Conway. I won't say the above factors changes everything but it gives me hope for the remainder of the season where I didn't have much. It was also so nice to see Humphries and Knevitt get a game.

Neale needs to start developing in the afl to be an afl forward. His marking hasn't been great but his ground level work has been good. Should be more than enough for him to earn his spot and he'll build from there

Humphries is a gun. Knows how to play and is one hell of a kick! Wells special there!

Dempsey is brilliant, what a player he’s becoming.

Knevitt needs to play, that mark to stop a goal in the 3rd was awesome, it’s what Menagola used to do at his best and something we’ve missed.

SDK isn’t much of a ruck but he’s a good midfielder 20 disposals, 5 clearances and 5 score involvements.

Neale did some nice things.

We look better with Danger and Stewart taking the pressure off the younger guys, Bowes played with a lot more freedom.

Rohan off the chain, still can impact

I love Danger, he’s still such a class player and just wills himself to win the contest.

Lots to improve on but good to win again!
Anyone else think Humphries is almost one handed when he kicks. May be an issue when trying to kick under pressure.

Its lovely reflecting on the fact I’ve watched us win 4 flags, have had 3 children etc etc since they last played a finals game.

I’m in exactly the same boat.

Plus grew up in Essendon in the 1980s when they were intolerable.
