IT aint working.

Lost by 8, 6, 64 and 4.

First time since 2006 we've dropped 4 in a row.

Cant go to sleep for a 1/4 and expect to make it happen in the end.

Jezza is a shell of himself.
Tomma too.
Duncan's best is behind him.

We have some really good kids coming thru.

Bruhn, Atkins, Stengle, Clark all really good. Conway too - nice back to back games from him.

Bowes good whence he came on. Zuthrie solid too for sure.

2E started ok then disappeared

Stewy, SDK, Jack Henry all inconsistent. Blitz too. Miers up and down - mostly down of late.

The cohesion and team stuff ebbs and flows and you cant have that in the AFL today.

Midfield still getting lessons the hard way.

Only shining light is it's our younger players who continue to impress.
Holmes and Stengle were awesome for large parts of the game and Clark looked great and at home and even late made some decisions seemingly beyond his "veteran" team mates.
Otherwise, typical horrible game from the Cats.
No leadership. Nobody standing up.
Even late, nobody trying to slow it down and make better decisions, just more long blind bombs to the top of the square, but for some reason a forwardline whose unable to read those exact kicks and allow the GWS tall backs to continue to either mark, or kill the entry. Time and time again.
All round, selfish, dumb football.

Stupid football at the end. Just bombing it to the top of the square where the Giants had 4-5 players just waiting for the mark or spoil. Needed to be smarter than that - what was wrong with lowering the eyes and looking for a target at half forward?
Yep. If we can't do the friggen basics how can we expect to win?

As with the other losses, the main silver lining is that most of our best players were younger guys.

Just that 20-odd minute span in the 2nd quarter cost us - can't go to sleep for a quarter and expect to win.

Frustrating because we played good Cats style footy at times, just had these horrible brain fades and lapses at times.

Oh well - hopefully at least we have an easy kill against Richmond next week....

Anyone see Stengle give a massive spray to O Henry there right at the end. When you’re playing that third tall it’s so important to engage and put some body on your direct opponent ( Alleer was massive at the end).

Wouldn’t mind seeing Atkins have a spell and give another mid a crack.

Snuck out of dinner to check the final score.

The result was predictable early in the first quarter. The inaccuracy of GWS flattered us.

The weight of their forward entries, our mf getting smashed, and possibly the most disorganised forward line / method in the game was always going to tell.

Bizarre choice re: Bowes......

We're done for 2024 I suspect.

Think we've reached the point where we're fodder in 2024.
The midfield tries hard but is below the level required.

Time to try something different.

Mannagh, Hardie, COS, Knevitt in.
Dempsey (managed), Atkins, J.Henry, Neale out.

Our best contested foward marks right now.

Tyson stengle no. 1
Close no 2
Neale no 3 (despite the silly uncontested drops each week)

That is all.

This last month, every selection decision we have made has weakened the midfield for no discernible gain anywhere else. You can't do that in modern football and expect to win. The midfield is everything. It is appalling coaching.

Once again, GWS get ontop, string together a few clearances, and we are chasing the rest of the night. It is sad in how predicable it was. We are losing these games on Thursday.

had more than enough entries to try and get it done. we just looked like a disconnect between where our forwards were and where we kicked. If we're kicking to stengle in a 3 on 1 then what's going on with our decision making

Problem as I see it, is we don't have the composure behind the ball to look to hit up targets, nor the movement forward of the ball, so resort to the long bomb (which we know doesn't work), but we don't have any talls who can crash a pack and take a big mark.
Our closest is Rohan, and that itself is a joke.
Neither Jez, Hawkins nor Ollie can take those big grabs amongst defenders, so we HAVE to lower the eyes and look to hit up targets across the 50-80m out, but never did.

We are tackling as though we we're worried about getting reported - hence we're not sticking tackles. We should have taken GWS approach as they were able to sling our players to ground multiple times.

Towards the end - we should have looked at hitting up around 40-50m.

Umpiring horrible again. Would like to be on the right end of the free kick count at some stage this season.
