Tried hard the last quarter and a half but poor decision making and skill errors into the forward line cost us the win. So many chances- blew most of them. Flipping Toby takes his slim ones.
Good on them for fighting back but have to do better. Ah well. We’ve had a great run- it’s going to be a tough year but I’m happy enough if we can fight like that instead of giving up too easily. Congrats to bruhn for a v good game- tried so hard, blix looked back to himself once we got going. Bowes good. Stengle of course. Kolo worked hard, Henry improved- good on him. Miers- what was his issue tonight? Clark good. Tommy’s nearly done by the looks but was ok tonight and I’ve loved every minute. Jez not right. Keep working cats. We will win next week.

Anyone see Stengle give a massive spray to O Henry there right at the end. When you’re playing that third tall it’s so important to engage and put some body on your direct opponent ( Alleer was massive at the end).

Wouldn’t mind seeing Atkins have a spell and give another mid a crack.
Yeah Alleer just went 'go go gadget arms' and marked everything sent his way. Only way to beat that is not to kick it to him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last quarter was excellent. Leaving Parfitt out against such a good midfield was mind-boggling.

Cameron and Stewart were virtually unsighted.

Clark, Bruhn, Conway, Atkins, Stengle and Clark all good. Zach Guthrie was absolutely solid - should be captain.

Bowes played well when he came on.

Mullin a bit down and got really unlucky with that last goal. Close played pretty well.

Blicavs played fairly well. Tuohy turned back the clock a bit, but not quite enough to get us over the line.

SdK was shocking for 95% of the game.

Hawkins got absolutely shafted by the umpires again - defenders can do what they like to him.

Oliver Henry needs to do more in the forward line. He's not just there to kick goals and look good. He needs to be accountable for a defender.

Lucky for us Coniglio came off because if he played out the game we may not have gotten close.

Give me Hardie and Parfitt next week.

On to next week with a feast on the Tigers

Absolutely all over them in the last quarter and should have won by about three goals. Giants were gassed and every time they were tackled they'd flop to the ground.

Our midfield is simply not the same class as these draft pick sides, but we were very good in the last quarter.

When we were bad, it was defensive efforts and just not being on the same wavelength as each other.

O Henry should have played further up the ground.

Our delivery forward was much better this week.

Some good signs, some bad signs. Just need some solid mids. And a bit of luck.

We missed quite a few HTM in the forward line that last quarter.

Stengle is a freak but can't do it all.

Tuohy is best 22 but if we're just making up the numbers there's no point him playing on.

Tommy A. is a heart and soul player but doesn't get enough of it currently.

Mullin is going to have ups and downs, but it may be time to give Humphries a go.

Dempsey is probaby due a rest and Mannagh deserves a game.

I just wish we could get the rub once this year just ****ing once. We have been ****ed by the umps all season and I’m getting ****ing sick of it.

Hawkins needs to retire. His only value now is the double back lead for a 10 metre chip pass.

He doesnt even try to contest any pass longer then that. Clearly his body is stuffed.

He is a geelong legend. But he is done.
He was much better than Cameron and O Henry tonight.

What an indictment on the league that we're still in the 8.
Our easy start to the season is starting to become more obvious as we play more "top 8 sides".

Our best contested foward marks right now.

Tyson stengle no. 1
Close no 2
Neale no 3 (despite the silly uncontested drops each week)

That is all.
Kolo and Zuthrie deserve some credit. They were two down in the backline most of the night with Henry and SDK being so shit.

Losing games by 8, 6, and 4 isn't a sign that it isn't working.

Those margins are a miskick or a missed call (or a.dodgy call the other way).

It's a long season and we'll hit our straps in due course.

In two of those games we were over 5 goals down before storming home and making the scoreboard a lot more respectable than what it should've been though. Can't be giving sides a 5 goal head start and expecting to win.

Positives:

Hawk the longest serving Geelong player in history.

Jack Henry and SDK went from their worst to some of their better footy in a frenetic second half.

I love the way Clark, Bruhn, Mullin, Atkins just throw their body into everything, you can question their talent, their poise, but you can’t question the endeavour.

Stengle & Close almost carried us to victory.

Zuthrie and Kolo the only defenders doing anything in the first half.

Thought Toby was pretty good,

Negatives

Aforementioned SDK & Jack Henry complete crap in the first half, awful doesn’t even begin to describe it.

Holmes, Touhy and Duncan, soft in the contest when they needed to be better, I really see no reason for Duncan to hang around, he’s lost his footing on the cliff, there is only one way to go.

Ollie Henry, didn’t compete well enough in the air, Aleer two last minute marks a bit of an indictment on our forward line.

Jezza and Stewart, head knocks no laughing matter but both these boys struggling.

On field leadership from senior players, where is it????

Bowes inexplicably on the pine until the very end, I can’t see how a touhy or Duncan plays and he doesn’t.

Composure, we had plenty of chances, but we couldn’t capitalise, or hit targets and our forward fifty entries were largely junk.

I hate how this team can be so crap in parts, yet we had ample opportunities to be 10-1 now, as there is no reason why we couldn’t have beaten Melbourne, Port and GWS tonight. Hard to know if we are close, or what we are at the moment.

Glass half full I guess is that 3 of our losses have been extremely close.

A bit of luck and 50/50 going the other way and we could be 10-1 and laughing off the Gold Coast loss as a 'mulligan'.
Big losses can only be cast off as Mulligan's IMO if you come out with a big 4 quarter win the next week.

He was much better than Cameron and O Henry tonight.
Thats not saying anything. They were woeful. But hawkins literally can only do one thing now. He cant win marks one on one any more. He doesnt even jump at contests anymore (he just stands giving his opponent a free ball), he cant win the ball in an on the ground contest anymore.

He is not at afl level anymore.

Stupid football at the end. Just bombing it to the top of the square where the Giants had 4-5 players just waiting for the mark or spoil. Needed to be smarter than that - what was wrong with lowering the eyes and looking for a target at half forward?

Yep. If we can't do the friggen basics how can we expect to win?

When we did lower eyes + targeted HF, Hawkins marked twice (I think? Definitely once) as did other players.
Apart from actually marking the ball, surely there were other tactics to get Allir (spell?) away from the ball?

It was touched. You could see the GWS defender's finger bending backwards as the ball passed it.
Touched off the boot replays are a great addition to our game. It's why I go to watch.

Mark of the year, goal of the year and touched off the boot of the year. Love it.

Umpiring horrible again. Would like to be on the right end of the free kick count at some stage this season.

18-12 GWS's way. Often a lopsided count doesn't indicate crooked and lopsided umpiring, but tonight it was a pretty fair indication of who the umps wanted to win.
