It had zero impact on the game so who cares. His opponent had 6 more disposals, 6 more clearances, 4 more tackles and almost 200m more gained.
It had zero impact because of the failure of our midfield. Stanley hit numerous balls into great spots. Our mids were just pressured out of winning it.

if our mids dominate but we lose because our fowards failed to capitalise do you say the mids had zero impact?

Surely Knevitt for Blicavs is the obvious option

Use Stanley to ruck through the middle. Neale isn't necessarily going to be a long term ruck option but he does take the odd contest in the VFL & can do the same up forward. Use SDK down back

We also used Rohan in the ruck today, so maybe try that again next week cause at least we gave us something when the ball hit the deck

I forgot knevitt but he cant ruck at afl level. And stanley cant do it one out at his age. I thought rohan as ruck sucked.

I suspect what we will do is sav will come into defence and henry wil go fwd and be the 2nd ruck (even more so if hawkins is out). I dont like it but its our least worst option.

Jackson played the game like Blicavs plays against a superior ruckman: try to make up for the deficiency by getting the ball on the ground. Yes, he did get more of the ball but the notion that he beat Stanley is ludicrous. He had his arse handed to him in the central pillar of ruck craft.

What was more disappointing for me was despite so many more hit outs Fremantle still absolutely destroyed us around the football…. Fremantles midfield brigade put their wife beater tops on and said “ it’s time for a lesson boys” and we shat the bed. The midfield differentials were utter embarrassment and what I would expect from WCE.

Serious question…. Should we drop jezza and book him into surgery now and try to restructure our forward half a lot lighter and nippier? Go for pace and rebound and have Stanley float forward and Rohan/Henry compete aerially.

His form has been very mediocre and if rumors of the shoulder are true just book him in.. his doing nothing as he is now
Yeah but what kind of surgery? I din't think he is injured. Cosmetic surgery? brain surgery?

Do we think our mids just arent good enough or is there something off with how they are working together as a unit?

I’m going to shoot down our normal super hero.

Got me shocked that Stewart is getting wraps about his game.
It was terrible, he was exposed and the occasion got to him.
When he went to the midfield to give them a blast, the midfield should’ve told him to sort out his backline.

25 disposals for 11 turn overs, not to mention the amount of direct goals his opponent kicked.

Considering 22 of his 25 disposals were uncontested that’s a putrid game
Stunk of arrogance.

And I tipped it: 7 votes already in the MVP thread. 🤯

I agree but after press conference I think the next in’s will be SAV Parfitt and then I would add bews Guthrie and menegola. And if Stanley needs a break ceglar can have a crack.

All good
Tomorrow's VFL will answer a few questions

If Ratugolea lines up in defence, then it means either Jack plays alongside Ollie up forward, or we're going to try playing a guy up forward who hasn't played that role for over 12 months - but not sure Jack really is a Hawkins replacement and seems more similar to a Cameron style forward

If Neale kicks 5 goals in the first half, surely he gets the nod

Otherwise, debut Conway and play Stanley up forward

His hit out advantage had far less impact than his opponent dominating him for disposals, clearances, contested possessions, tackles, score involvements and pressure acts.

I am in same page in terms of leaving Jack back. Let’s not mess with that part of the formula that works.

We should win vfl by 100 points plus so I wonder whether that helps or hurts trying to work out form.

Remember bews wanting to get back in too. And menegola. And they will rush back Guthrie asap. Not looking to future but they might try those guys as a Hail Mary to get a couple of wins?

I honestly don't think Stanley has been very good when he's played this year. He was better in years like 2019 when people were still criticising him.

ruckmen dont play on each other around the ground. They only compete in the ruck. And stanley absolutely smashed him in the ruck.

ps 6 disposals isnt all that much more in any case.

If results go certain way etc we could finish as low as 15th.
Honestly if Hawkins and Blitz are out for the rest of the year, perhaps it's a good thing.

Perhaps we should look at getting into the discussion for Harley Reid.. Pick 4 & Future First or similar for Pick 1 this year..
Aren’t their penises for tanking? Huge ones?

You’re not suggesting we lose for better picks, are you? You’re saying “IF results go a certain way etc”? Right?
‘Etc’ 😏😏😏
Cue Monty Python’s:
“Eh? know what I mean? Know what I mean? Nudge, nudge! Know what I mean? Say no more! A nod's as good as a wink to a blind bat, say no more, say no more!”

Seriously though, IF we’re a chance to play Finals, I reckon the PTB will continue with out of form players, as a steadying presence for Kittens. Only time we missed Finals was 2014 (???) + Club honour ensures we go for it.

Nevertheless, while it’s distressing to miss Finals, I’m on the ‘Get Games into the Kittens’ bandwagon.

EDIT: PENALITIES!!! Not 🍆s
🙀

Furthermore. . .continuing the 🍆
Another edit:
Changing, “You’re not suggesting we lose for better picks, are you?” to
“You’re not suggesting we lose for better pr1cks, are you? 😏😏😏
It’s been one of those days, I’ve chosen to go with the flow 😜

Warning...bad domestic violence joke!

Watching the Suns put a lead on the Lions after what we faced last week offers a bit of perspective to where we’re at. Yeah we played them at the Gabba but still. We were outplayed today by a team that is no where near the finals this year on our home deck with one of the strongest sides we’ve fielded all year, in our coach’s record breaking game. It sucks and I’m not ok with that, but I am alright with having a down year. Even if we miss the finals.

We’ve had a charmed run for the best part of 2 decades and I have enough faith in the club to bounce back before long. Geelong doesn’t do cellar-dwelling. I’m happy enough watching a few replays of the granny last year, whilst enjoying seeing the development of our kids and the excitement of not knowing what to expect come round 1 next year. Can’t win it every year after all, and if you can’t find enjoyment in the down years you’ll never get the full satisfaction out of years like 2022. We’ve had a decent amount of highlights this year while quietly pumping games into a lot of kids and still the constant excitement of anticipating our 2023 finish. Even up until today top 4 was on the cards, and for many supporter bases that hasn’t been a realistic expectation all year. After a flag last year I’ll happily take it, as disappointing as today was.

42 hit outs to 19.
I can hardly believe my eyes that people think Jackson did enough around the ground to make up for that pantsing in the ruck.

Good question. My thoughts are they just aren’t good enough.. it was in fairness a weakness also in 2022 but we tended to still do enough to more often than not break even and get our game going. The loss of guthrie and selwood out of there and the decline of danger is just too much for us to compensate.

We literally don’t have a single player capable of 30+ touch matches anymore, and we seem to be relying on 2x20yo midfielders to compete against seasoned prime A graders from other sides like serong/brayshaw degoey/daicos/mitchel rozzee/butters dunkley/neale….

I like the look of both holmes and bruhn… but they are another two years away from being able to play as A grade mids.

In terms of midfields… I can’t think of many who have a worse brigade than ours in all honesty.

Can't agree...Jackson's influence on the game dwarfed Stanley's effort. Stewart ran a hundred metres to give Stanley an almighty spray I think in the second quarter. Obviously our VC wasn't enamoured by Rhy's effort.

Stanley was ordinary...to be fair he wasn't the worst but nowhere near my top 5...

So true about Selwood. He literally would drag us over the line. Other players lifted when they saw Joel go into juggernaught mode. He had an enormous influence in our sustained success from 2007 to 2022.
He really did 😻
Not sure if he tore players a new one, or led by example? But was absolutely phenomenal, turning a sure loss into a win!
