One positive I'd say is that Ollie Henry had 6 tackles (team high)

The defensive side of his game has been seen as a weakness, so good to see he was cracking in there.
He’s going to be a very good player for us moving forward along with Tanner ..small positives from this year

Simply put, we're gone. We just concede too much in the midfield, and then when your best defender makes two costly errors late in the game, and your superstar forward just couldn't hit the ocean if he jumped off the Fairstar, we just look like this. We always seem to lose in that 'close enough' kind of way this season, but honestly the sum of the parts of the year sees us just too far away.

And Blitz suffering a hammy and Hawkins looking similarly lame, i just can't see us mustering any more than one more win...all four sides are above us, including the top two. We might wind up with a pick in the top 10 given it's likely we'll fall below a lot of clubs, so maybe take it like perhaps a 2006 and reset for next season. Brilliant flag last year, but i think Father time might be getting his own back. We need to develop some midfield bulls to try and wrest some control there. And that is a process that will take time.

A bit like with Enright's 300th, sometimes we really fall flat with honouring a club legend. But seriously, when you get close to two goals up at home in the last quarter against an interstate side, and lose...it's saying we just aren't that good anymore.

Summarised so well. Here's what happened to the Fairstar. Scrap Omens :(

The name "RIPA" was then roughly painted on her bow (which many believe stood for "Rest In Peace Always") and she flew the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines flag. Soon after, she slipped out of Sydney Harbour and arrived at Alang, India on 10 April 1997 where she was broken up for scrap.

Honestly our worst performance for some time.
Towards the end of the season, finals on the line, coaches record game, at home vs 15th and we were woeful.
Senior players in particular should be embarrassed, finger pointed directly at Danger and Stewart as the so called "leaders" of the club.
Not many could hold their heads up after that.
Reminded me a bit of the Enright record breaking game v Melb at home (I think).

We had a shocker and if memory serves me correctly it was a similar day weather wise too.

We need two quality mids so probably trade route. We need a bigger body bull and an accumulator. We need someone who can get 30 odd a week and another who can give us proper clearances. We don't have an accumulator and when you do it means you keep control of the ball, something we have struggled to do all season. Bring 2 good mids in, all of a sudden you have Danger and Atkins as the second string mids like last season where they should be at this point.
Clark, Knevitt and Bruhn are years away from being top quality, and we can't rely next year on the older players we currently have.
Not sure there's any free agents that fit our needs that aren't likely to re-sign with their clubs, and we don't really have the trade currency.

That will define whether this year is like 2015, and we reload, or if it's the start of a longer decline while we wait for the young group to come through while we hit the draft.

If Parish and Smith were realistic options you'd say that's the pathway to a quick turn around, but both those players look unlikely to come. There isn't really a Dangerfield just waiting for us to pluck out sadly this time round.

Pisspoor effort today. Gone back to the usual half assed conservative style of play for most of the game yet again. Comes back to not working hard enough. Never going to amount to much playing like that.

Crapped on in the centre again. Cameron looks well off it. Stewart made some howlers in that last quarter. Umps were a disgrace but that shouldn't have mattered. Just look disinterested alot of the time lately. Not having a red hot crack like when we played Melbourne here last time.

Season over barring a miracle now. A few players need to take a long hard look at themselves. Putrid effort. We are a laughing stock against useless Freo. Always get pantsed by those clowns.

Oh well had a gutful time to go watch Happy Gilmore and forget about this wasted season. 😑😑

Do we throw the cheque book at Darcy Parish?

Games like the past two weeks are certainly a compelling case to do so.

It's clear where our recruitment focus needs to be this off season.

I agree entirely. Parish was one 'plug and play' mid on the market, but he's signed now and I don't rate him that highly anyway. Not sure what other mids are available. We'll have a top 10 pick most likely, so that might come in handy.

I'd throw SDK in the ruck again. Worked really well during our 5 week winning block earlier in the year. Run Stanley and SDK in the ruck and Esava in defense.
An option.

But to be honest I liked the look of Rohan as pinch hit ruckman. Injects his speed into the middle.

In particular if the other teams 2nd ruck option is poor I would go with that?

Cats have always had an inate ability to turn things around. Stupid is the person to simply dismiss any chance if we do make the 8.

Not saying we're going to win a flag but damn the emotional reactions that come during and after a loss on this forum is borderline embarrassing
it was one of the least intense performances I have seen in fifty years. Make of that what you will

Outside impresssion of what is happening inside can be deceiving but it didn't look like all was sweet on the good ship lollipop today.

Duncan and Cameron were certainly in disagreement after the poor pass to the latter. Krock said Stewart talking to the mids and being sent on his way by Blitz...not sure about that but he is playing like the weight of captaincy is as heavy as a tank.

Too many heavy legs. And not enough guys in the sweet spot of 22 to 28 ..

but just for the record .... so what . Proud guys not playing to the standard the are expecting . Getting grumpy with themselves and others.

At least Cameron developed some shots tpday ... but his kicking ahs been off for yonks...even before Rohan put him into orbit.

Hawk is at a stage that if the ball is not put to his advanagte then he has no game to go to.

Blitz has final done an injury ... and the timing could probably not be too much worse. I wonder if they pull Neale out of the VFL now.

No shame in running out of steam. No shame in finding you just cant do it any more. The shame is being like Warner in the cricket... and expecting everyone to work around you when you are done.

Too much hubris by the club this year. Thinking we'll roll into the season, underdone and finding form and fitness as the season rolls on and we'll "click" and find out best footy at the right time and go on to win it again.

It even comes from the coach with his "we're the danger" remark the other week and thinking our best is good enough when we haven't displayed it nearly enough.

We've played maybe 5 games of good footy this year max. Too many players out of form/out of confidence/ or lack of hunger to go again.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to see 4 flags in my life, but bloody disappointed we can't go back to back even once.

See you next year.
Considering last year’s depth, you’d expect our injuries to only affect us a bit. Yet, injuries, poor form (especially senior players) + the usual underestimating lower ladder teams have affected the team.

Cameron I can forgive. Obviously injury + lost confidence have contributed to yips.

Rohan is vital, when in form.
Duncan + Stewart were deceiving today with 27 + 25 disposals respectively. Yet had the horrors!
Close + OHenry had six tackles each, Atkins with five.

My Boy Miers is in great form. Would love to see him kick goals.

We struggled to move the ball with 30 of our 40 D50 chains intercepted by Freo for 3.2.20, scoring 7.6.48 from our turnovers.
In the last 10 minutes, play was in Freo’s Forward Half for 60% of the time.

Add constant fumbling, hot potato handballs, kicking to oppo players, staring + rigid as oppo players intercepted marks, poor kicking efficiency, intent as in determination hugely missing, little contest D50.

Who had Freo ending our season (hopefully not) + Rohan in the Ruck on their bingo cards?

Huge love to Hawkins 💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙

Danger 16 disposals at 62% efficiency and 4 turnovers. His form has dropped considerably since early in the year. Miers only had 12 disposals and Bowes had only 7 including fumbling in the goal square resulting in a Freo goal. Isaac Smith was ok but time catching up quickly, Duncan was good. Tuohy can't make the distance from 45m out and Cameron still struggling since his concussion. SDK having a poor year compared to 2022. Injuries hurt us this year. The stars did not align for 2023.

They won't play the young guys until we are a mathematical impossibility of making the 8. However I don't think they would be any worse than a bunch of our players today.

I wouldn't play them in the next 2. The senior players can cop their medicine in those games. I would then be playing Neale, Knevitt, Mullin & Dempsey in the final two games.

You're in for a shock.

It's probably better for you if you look at things realistically.
