Genuine crossroads game next week. I hope Scott puts acid on them after this game, and we'll see what the response looks like. More of the same? Season probably done. But if they respond and put the shoulder to the wheel, then the season is still alive.

This is a weird position to be in as a Cats supporter!

The scary part is that until the game was pretty much over anyway, the Suns were not good at all. Horrific performance, played like 22 blokes who just met each other.

Going to be a bloody long season if we keep dishing up that stuff. No joy whatsoever in our brand of footy. What the hell happened during the off / preseason?

Ceglar can never play again ever, wasn’t his fault we lost but he is a dead set liability.

Sav is not going to make it, he doesn’t read the play at all he’s got know idea.

Guthrie has been pathetic same with Close.

What really irked me was when backs stood back waiting for oters to step in. Tuohy, Ratugolea, even Stewart, ...

I've had reservations about Ratugolea from Day 1, but I need to see him playing in a team that has a functioning MF before I make a call on him as a defender.

Firstly, congratulations to Gold Coast, they were far better than us today and thoroughly deserved the win. Played with system and resolve.
We were shite.

Patrick Dangerfield had an excellent first half and then all but disappeared; Cam Guthrie much the same despite a few more disposals; their influence faded dramatically as the game wore on.

The hole Joel Selwood has left in this team is a gaping wound; his leadership got us over the line so many times when games were tight at three quarter time - not only his ability to marshall the team, but also his elite decision-making late in games. That is proving irreplaceable.

I thought Bowes, Bruhn and Henry were all quite poor, Henry is exciting and has obvious class; I'm not too worried about him, but Bruhn disappears for large swathes of the game and Bowes was slow to react and not particularly hard at it today.

Isaac Smith, Mark Blicavs, Mark O'Connor and Zac Guthrie all tried hard; Cameron looked dangerous but his kicking was uncharacteristically off in the 2nd half. But we were struggling to generate opportunities anyway.
Stengle flat and quiet, Close even flatter and quieter.

Tom Hawkins is too old and big to be given games on the strength of a ''ripping'' 4-week ''pre-season'' and today he was slow, reactionary and pretty much useless.

Chris Scott and the club can talk about not panicking all they like, but we've got Hawthorn next up and if we are dropping games to them we're in real trouble.

I got nothing right now.

The lack of care from Geelong right now is disgraceful.

Several veterans need a hard look at themselves and ask if they really actually want to be out there anymore.
If I'm honest - and I take this approach with sport often - if it looks like the player's don't care, why should we?

I've got a mate who barracks for the Eagles who's employed that tactic. After some of their efforts over the last few years he just thought "Why should I care?, they clearly don't!!"

And for those thinking that's poor form or being a fair weather supporter...it's not. He's got no problem supporting a bad team, it's just when there's no effort he has a problem.

A few of us might need to adopt that strategy this year.

I don't want to be one these people who "I told you so ".
I said last week we would lose to Gold Coast, but people on here said, we will bounce back, there no way we would loose..
As I saw the concerning moments last week, as were not playing like we did in 2022.. we look slow, that run and carry isn't there... The sad thing the only difference from last year is 1 player. Yes he is a gun but surely how can 1 guy look so different...
And I'm not blaming Chris Scott. I think its the players have to take responsibility on this year

They're not fit enough as a group, and some are clearly unfit full stop. Guthrie rolling off the back and kicking it lace out to a leading Ballard while Hawkins limped behind him summed up the afternoon - as did Miller blowing past Dangerfield at the first stoppage of the final quarter.

I think we need to acknowledge that we have real problems and need to make some changes in personnel and how we play. We were hard to watch. The concerning thing is that that there’s really no one in the 2s banging the door down to be selected (and they lost by 107 points too). Unfortunately I think Bruhn, Hawkins and Close need to have a rest/spell in the 2s.

Not sure what's worse, 0-3 or having to listen to Dermott for two hours straight. :drunk:

I’ve never heard somebody who thinks the sound of their own voice is as important as Dermott does.

Hudson: ‘neither team taking advantage of shots at goals here’

Dermott [slowly, to add gravitas]: ‘neither team can seize the opportunity in front of them.’

🙄

Cameron Smith Stewart Bruhn Rohan Bilcavs only guys having a crack the rest to soft and not enough work rate. Was hard to watch!

I'd have MO'C on that list too, but it's a pretty short list nonetheless.

100% guarantee Hawthorn will come out swarming around the ball with a lot of quick, chirpy little mids and our mids will just stand there looking stodgy and reactionary. Being underdone because the club fluffed the fitness regime is one thing, but there's absolutely no pride or hunger in how they're playing.

Henry, Bowes and Bruhn added next to nothing today.

Hawks with a win will go into the Easter Monday game believing they can beat Cats, and they probably will.

To pick up the thread - I would not have given a toss if we had lost the first 2-3 if we were not playing Hawk and a few others who are clearly underdone. Why TF do we have guys like Neale at the club if they won't play him while at the same time they run Tom into the ground. Bewildering stuff
I strongly agree with this. The club must know how the senior players are fitness-wise, so why the hell aren't we getting some games into younger/fringe players? If we're going to lose at least get AFL experience into Neale and others. Reeks of arrogance.

Back to the sort of stuff we'd see in '82-83, '98-99, 2003 or thereabouts. Probably the least skilled game i've seen in the last decade and a half. Turnover central, the Suns killed us in the clearances 41-20 which is embarrassing, and suddenly a bloke who has kicked 18 goals in 90 games or so becomes the new Gary Sr. And SDK every game has been smashed, he'll be out next week with protocols.

0-3, perhaps it's a subconscious feeling about scaling the mountain last season, the older players as Danger himself said after the GF, this is complete he said? Well so far it's completely ordinary, they were pretty good against the Pies for almost 3 quarters, but if they played like they did today against the Pies it would have been a 120 pt smashing. Ugly stuff, and i do think Hawkins needs to get right, and some new blokes given a go.
