Changes for Round 2

I saw after the game on the AFL site that Conca had a finger injury. Not sure how serious it is. If it IS serious, then:

In: Matera, Hogan
Out: Conca, Ballantyne

McCarthy is quick enough to play in the midfield if need be, or have Taberner on the bench. No need to have all of Lobb, Tabs, Hogan, and Cam on the ground at the same time. One can always rest.

Banfield's disposal is a concern. He appears to have been played as a lead up half forward yesterday so if Hogan was deemed fit and ready for inclusion i would slot him in there.

I'd say there's only a handful of players available for selection this week that have played at Metricon Stadium before, which may help Matera get the nod.

I did see somewhere that Matera was supposed to have been given permission to play in the WAFL scratchie over the weekend.

Ross is always hesitant to make changes to winning teams, except for injury. So Ballas goes out - Jesse comes in if he's ready, if not then Switta, if he's not ready, then Matera as #3 choice.

Bigger issue really is how/why do we have another hamstring injury?

Unless Switta is fully fit I think Ballas gets replaced by Matera. Like McCarthy I think we need to give him an opportunity to play in his best role - that's as a deep small forward (do not ever put him in the midfield ever again). There were a number of times when none of our smalls crumbed off our talls. In fact it was often our talls crumbing off our talls :) Our talls were great with their pressure as well (well done Tabs!). Matera should play that crumbing role - he just needs to know if he doesn't chase and pressure mercilessly all game then he's back at Peel for the rest of the season.

Thought Shultz was ok but you can tell needs to work on his fitness. Switta coming in for him would be quite an upgrade in the meantime - probably round 3 though.

Being able to roll McCarthy and Hogan into the midfield would make things interesting eh. It is more or less the only way we can squeeze in another tall imo. The bench is much more about resting midfielders, so Mundy/Fyfe to the bench, Hogan/McCarthy hitting the midfield may work.

Ballas did basically nothing so the whole replacement with a small or tall argument is pretty much moot. I would rather throw Hogan in if he's sober rather than Matera or risk Swita. And you know RBB will only replace injuries/suspensions after such wins.

Plus I want Hudson commentating Schultz and Hogan in the same forward line. He really wants it too by the sound of it yesterday.

He's 31 with a long history of hamstring injuries not sure we need to read too much into that one.

How about Hogan for Ballas and move Dardy into the midfield?

Cam has the tank, mobility and skills to make a decent tall mid. Walters and Schultz can be the smalls up forward.

Please Sir, can I have some more Cam in the forward line where he belongs?

The single quickest way to stuff up a working game plan is to move the components around on the field. Once they have demonstrated they can play this way against good teams and particularly on the road, we can start tinkering to make us more flexible.

Darcy to Fyfe to Mundy to McCarthy, kick from the 50, split the big sticks, do it all over again.

Hogan's quite capable of playing high and rolling through the midfield too. Did it for a fair percentage of last season with a fair bit of success.
