Changes for Round 2

There’s no way Tabs should lose his spot.

His marking down the line often gave us the ability to break lines and move the ball quickly yesterday. He plays on confidence and once he starts to control the air we look a far more dangerous side.

I think it will be Matera for Ballas. Not many teams that win by 14 goals need to make unforced changes.

Are you daft?

The number of times I've seen him drop simple marks, including a few on the weekend .

The bloke is scared of his own shadow

And yet still takes more contested marks than anyone in the league. Imagine how good he'd be if he took all of them. The thing about Taberner is that he's very good at getting to contests. He still takes a good number of marks despite fumbling a few that he should take.

It wouldnt send a very good message to drop Tabs given how he performed but lets be honest, he was playing on a nobody about 1/2 his size given the state of NM's KPDs. Regardless, you cant drop him this week after such a good performance and you especially cant drop a guy that has given 110% on the track and never put a foot wrong for someone who got blind the night before training.

If he Hogan is available to play he takes Ballas spot because he is so much better than Matera that we lose almost nothing pressure wise and on the ground ball anyway and gain a lot in the air and around the goals.

Switta to go through Peel on reduced minutes before playing next week against the Saints.

Out: balla’s

In: Hogan

Potentially, if the match committee want to squeeze Hogan in while going like for like then we’ll see Banfield in Balla’s spot and Hogan taking Banfields lead-up/pressure fwd role (not sure he has the required skill set on the pressure front).

May possibly see Matera and Hogan in for Balla’s and Banfield out from a pure team balance perspective.

Give switta and Logie another week or two to get 100% match fit

Team balance looked perfect on the weekend.

At the end of the day Hogan didn’t have to get on the piss, I say swap Ballas for Swita if he is fit and Matera if he isn’t, and play Hogan in the two’s.

Having to wait for an opportunity may be better for him in the long run.

Tabs, Lobb and McCarthy were all too good to drop. Tabs was rusty early, but once he got going was strong.

Disagree with a few criticising Hughes, he wasn’t perfect but I liked his physicality and his positioning seemed good. And the defence was too effective to mess with.

Won’t be the biggest test this year but if you don’t back players who perform I think you lose them.

Only change I would do is hogan for Ballantyne. You can’t drop any other player after the weekends performance. I’m sure the coaches will conjure something up to fit hogan in if he’s good too go

Tabs is very much a confidence player.

His confidence is on an upward trajectory, just let him keep on keeping on.

The bloke is scared of his own shadow

You really have to give it a rest. You are acting like a troll on Taberner. I am not saying you have to like every player, and you can have a negative opinion, but you have not really given much evidence, more just a lot of hate, and then calling someone daft, which is actually more of an insult to most of us on here that think Taberner has been in good form since 2018, and if it was not for injury we would have been a lot better for it last year.

I agree that if one of the talls have to go out, it would be Taberner, just on talent in comparison to Hogan and Lobb, however I suggest you watch the replay and watch Taberner's game - he was anything but scared of his own shadow.

Here are some stats from 2018.

In 2018 :
round 1 20 disposals, 9 marks, 1 goal
round 2 : 16 disposals 4 marks, 4 goals (win)
round 3 : 18 disposals, 7 marks, 0 goals (win)
round 4 : 19 disposals, 5 marks, 0 goals
round 5 : injured early 5, 1 goal.
Average for the year : 15 disposals, 5.3 marks, and 1.1 goals. * he only played a quarter in round 5 so this lowered his stats. Taberner averaged 2.2 contested marks per game, the highest average at the club.
McCarthy average for the year : 9.9 disposals, 3.8 marks and 1.1 goals.

I am not having a go at McCarthy, as I think he adds a lot to our team, and I think he is incredibly skilled, however he dropped a lot of marks last year, and played up the ground a lot, however struggled. His best games last year came when Taberner was in the team. He struggled to take more than 2 marks when Taberner was out.

Hogan in for Hughes
Switto for Ballantyne

This was my thought too. Switto replaces the pressure that Ballas brings

Hogan joins the forward/midfield/bench rotation with Taberner, Lobb, McCarthy, Fyfe, Mundy, Walters. We don’t need to play all 4 talks in the same forward line

Eagles went too tall in QLD last week and it killed them. We can't go too tall - ball will getting more slippery as the game goes on with the humidity. Need another ground level player to replace ballas

Switta for Ballas
Hogan for Taberner

I agree, no Matera but we do need some forward pressure.
Lots of doubt over Hogan's fitness and ability to play a full game. I wouldn’t drop Tabs for him, then for Hogs to come up short. He needs to play alongside Tabs/Lobb. Just as McCarthy did.

Banfield for Hogan makes more sense. Then Matera/Switta in for Ballas. But the worry is smalls. Walters Schulz won’t be enough, and it’s Queensland. Going to be slippery.

I'm not trolling Tabs, I genuinely like the bloke and have wanted nothing but for him to succeed since arriving at the club.

He's just not that good though.

If hogan is fit, Tabs he should be competing with Lobb for a spot in the forward line, which he won't win as Lobb is more talented and offers more in the ruck.

Eagles got smashed in the midfield. It wasn't the forward line that lost the game, it just didn't get down there enough

Fair enough, but from my perspective pre 2018 he was delist material. But after 2018, even with the extensive injury he had, I would now say he is a required player, and I think he adds a lot of value with his contested marking, and presence leading up the ground. He is an interesting one, and may be worth something on the trade table in the future if he struggles to break into the side. Remember that Hogan has had a lot of injuries, so having someone like Tabs available could be the difference between winning and losing on any given match when our talls are depleted.

Your very one-eyed about Tabs, he straightens us up and now with Lobb we get that option on 2 sides of the ground. Tabs is also an elite runner, second-halves you can see his opponent falling off him. I'm pretty certain our best side will be Tabs, Lobb and Hogan and depending on our opponent McCarthy would come in as well.

I thought Tabs had a really valuablr game on the weekend. He does need a game like Cam had pretty early this year to not find himself playing for Peel at some stage. I really think we will be to tall, with the four of them in plus Cox. I was thinking at the game its almost a perfect set up as is minus hogan and Cox. two genuine smalls plus a defensive guy worked pretty dam well. 4 talls is to much for sure but well see.
