Makes us very short against Port’s big three forwards.

Piss Rotham off. He's hopeless. Play Hough and keep lanky Harry in.

If Port has all 3 talls playing I say we bring McGov back in for Rotham.
He has been absolutely woeful lately anyway where as Gov (and Barrass) has been among our best, if not the best.
Even underdone he surely offers more than Rotham right now.

Btw long-term I'm bullish on Rotham.
Just needs to permission to play the flowing run and gun style he tried to play when he first started.
Our club's downfall has been his downfall unfortunately.

So Ryan is allowed to not put in effort because he's talented? Great culture of high performance Simpson has created....

Long as he is kicking goals he will be allowed some weaknesses in his game..He hit the scoreboard and kicked 3 goals .. Like as a eg. Toby Greene a bit undisciplined but can be match winners ..

It's not weakness. Everyone can put in effort no matter how skilled they are and not putting in 100% shouldn't be tolerated no matter which player it is.

And GWS performing well given their list?

I think its time for Greg Clark. It really should of been last week as generally our selection committee requires underdone injured players to return straight back through the AFL rather than Clark's bizarre pathway of going through the WAFL.

message not at all influenced by being his sponsor

Another week in the 2s I think, he was good but not ‘get that man in the team’ good.

O’Neill was better in the WAFL last week. He can come in for whichever midfielder goes down with a mysterious previously undisclosed injury/COVID.

Clark was turd in the wafl . His disposal was very poor . Big unit that can tackle ill give him that . But hopefully yeo can fill that role

Cole had a similar journey to Rotham. Really impressed with early games and got a good run in a season with a key of games. The next year he started with brainfades and looked like a headless chook, used up his credits and was in and out of the side. Slowly came good.

I figure Rotham will do the same. Hasn't even played 50 games yet.

Not really. Cole got lost in his second season at AFL (which isn't uncommon) then the following year became a mainstay in a premiership year. Rotham isn't young he's 24 now and apart from a small brief period he hasn't been that special. I was huge on him but worry what kinda player he is at the next level. He can't defend tall/mid size forwards and is at best an average defender playing small. Offensively he is a shadow of what he as a junior. Doesn't take them game on with his run and carry and his kicking lacks any sort of hurt factor.

I can see someone like a Bazzo coming in an doing that third tall role the club wants Rotham too do

Port nearly beat Carlton on the weekend and they’ve been playing well (Carlton). I think we will lose

The only real anomaly in Port's season is getting pumped by Hawthorn at home. They should've beaten Brisbane, Adelaide and Carlton.

To be 0-5 with the footy they've played is embarrassing. They'll probably win enough games from here on in to be around the mark of the 8 but they won't contend with 12 wins on the board.

Cole was dogshit in 2019, started badly in 2020 but got it together later in the year when Simmo started playing him higher at times.

I think Rotham needs to find confidence to rebound and stop making unforced errors. If he doesn't get it together soon he might end up on the scrap heap.

Our defence is unsettled with Hurn and Foley the only two to play every game so far. Plus the ball is going in there a lot as we are #2 for inside 50s conceded and our pressure is non-existent.

Coaching staff (Simmo? Pratt? whoever) need to sort out who is in the back 6 to do what and pick players accordingly. I like Rotham but what is his role currently? Witherden is supposed to be Jetta 2.0 but he doesn't run and carry and far too often turns the ball over kicking 20m off one step. We don't have anyone who is playing a Schofield, Sheppard, Mackenzie type role where priority #1 is stopping an opponent. We have a bunch of guys who want to take intercept marks and use the ball, but at the same time our rebound out of defence is slow and imprecise.

We just need to play O'Neill for the rest of the season to see if he's AFL standard. If he's not then that's fine - we won't have to guess and still try to work it out next season.

He is afl standard when playing in his preferred position on ball .

He showed that vs Collingwood.

Problem is he will come back in play on a flank or defensive winger and struggle.

I thought he was okay against Carlton last season and then they dropped him from memory. I also though in early days Rotham was pretty good but he kept getting dropped. Simmo just have to give some of these guys extended runs.

Maybe our 2 talls could try spoiling first and a fleeter of foot group of smalls could rebound the footy!

I the past our strength is marking. Punching the ball to a ground contest would expose us as our weakness was contested ground ball.

So until we fix that the defenders won't be spoiling every ball.

Also at AFL level good defenders intercept mark every time they can. A defender who just spoils every time wont make it at this level. You lose ball control.

Does Williams get another crack or is it Strnadica's turn?
Given Port are playing Hayes as first ruck, I'd give Williams another shot. I think he finished last week a lot better than he started and Strnadica could use another week in the WAFL to get match fit.
