Changes for Round 8 v Fremantle @ Patersons Stadium

Shame that Mackenzie is out for a couple of weeks, having him out this week really hurt us and no doubt we'll miss him against Freo.

I think Masten will come in on the back of his reported BOG performance in the WAFL. I haven't been a massive fan of his but hopefully he can start to justify his #3 draft position.

In light of our not having a genuine CHB in the team, I reckon our only option is to name a team full of runners and try to out run the bastards. Masten and Gaff in, A. Selwood and ? out.

Who are the violets going to play inside 50 anyway?

Mcphee, Bradley, Mayne, Ballantyne*... Pearce? Johnson?

Their major avenues to goal in 2011 have been Bradley, Mayne & Ballantyne - who may not even play. I reckon Glass & Schofield should match up OK on Bradley & Mayne.

You forgot Pavlich.

Pavlich played a shocker on ball last week, DE of 22%. They would be crazy to not stretch our depleted talls down back. Glass to Bradley, Schofield takes Pavlich:eek: and ?? takes Mayne. I'm thinking J Jones may get a look in this weekend for Mayne unless we play Hurn on him.

Hopefully Balantyne is out, then again him playing injured may be better that a Walters coming in fit.

The question is will we try and stretch their backline with Kennedy, Darling, Lynch and a ruckman?

I'd like to see Strijk as our Sub. Sounds like he's only got half a game in him ATM but you know he would impact the game more so than Weedon IMO.

Need Masten and Gaff in to add run and carry.

Doubt Glass can go with Bradley(who would have ever thought that would be said). EMac would be a perfect match however we are jammed up and stuck with Schoey.

Glass would be better on Pavlich while forward.

I didn't forget Pavlich, I just don't think he will play forward.

If I were Harvey I would play him forward, but I would also have played him forward in their first 6 games. Putting an AA-calibre key forward into the midfield then relying on Chris Mayne to effectively play as a key forward seems like a poor strategy to me.

If we try to stretch their defense with tall forwards and don't dominate out of the centre we will lose. Comfortably.

Johnson will need to mind Cox / NN when they go forward so freeing up either Lynch or Darling to be minded by a 4th tallish backman.

Johnson's in great form!

I reckon that McFlee will go to Darling to try and rough him up so he gets his mind off the game.
McPharlin to Kennedy, McPhee to Darling and Grover to Lynch.

McFee on Darling would be a great matchup. Both like to have a trot up the ground, both strong overhead, big boys who like to rumble.

Jack to Tai Quon Do his ar$e. McFee will try a rough him up for sure and we will see how Jack goes when he's fired up.:D

18 year old v 29 year old.:eek::rolleyes:

This derby's gonna get ugly IMO.

Doubt it ! Too much to play for to be rubbed out this early in the year. Hard at the ball for sure, pretty sore boys for sure after, but I doubt we'll see a demo derby tbh.
Gonna be hard to win this one though !

FWIW,

In: Masten, Gaff, McGinnity
Out: Sheppard, Ebert (inj), Weedon (unlucky)

Gaff as the sub, bring him on for Lynch at half time. I think McGinnity has to play to take Ballantyne (if he plays). They'll name him in the original 25 for sure, Woosha loves him.

I can't see us making huge changes, considering we dominated about 65% of Sunday's match against a better fancied team than us.

Probably what will happen; MacKenzie still out is disappointing for us as he is clearly our 2nd best tall defender behind Glass. Ebert was rubbish for the most part as was Sheppard, Weedon is unlucky but will be replaced. If Ballantyne doesn't play then McGinnity probably isn't required which should see Hams or Strijk come in.

Hopefully Gaff isn't the damm sub this week he deserves better.

Wont happen But

IN Brennan Stevens Masten

OUT Ebert Sheppard Weedon

Really replacing two new players in Sheppard / Weedon for Stevens and Brennan . Masten takes Eberts place . Hope it happens , Brennan may give us some pace and Flexibility !
