Reily? Really?

**** sake. Contested ball specialist, can run though anyone in a pack (except maybe Sandi)

He needed to be in the 21 on the ground.

I would have Petenko as the sub, he was extremely poor and hasn't done anything for awhile. Hendo gives us much more versatility, considering we tend not to play the sub until well into the last qtr that versatility will be wasted.
Pets as a sub may as well not be there. He is there to put pressure on the defenders 1st, score 2nd. Over a game it justifies selection, he is not an impact player.

Defining moment in Luke Thompson's career IMO.

Only his 2nd game at AFL level this year and the 13th (let's hope it's not unlucky) of his career.

It's a big ask to expect such an inexperienced player to perform well at this level with such a limited career to date, but he has been selected and that expectation naturally exists along with the selection.

If he does happen to perform well in a final, it could eventually prove to be the launching pad of an AFL career. Unfortunately for him, the reverse holds if he duffs this opportunity.

Strongly disagree. Porps was in good form not that long ago. Classic short memories in AFL
In 2012? When exactly? He doesn't fit in the team as he can't play in the midfield (can't tackle) and he gets in the way of legitimate leading forwards who can put their arms above their head when he goes up front.

Mark my words; will be even worse in 2013. What people are feeling now is simply inertia and memories of a distant past when he was something other than a handicapped also-ran who tried hard.

It's true that there are a number of lucky players and we all know who they are. I believe the ramifications of a loss tomorrow night will be very significant. Sando has cut some slack based on performance through the year and the fact they have proven they can come back from a stinker. In short they have earnt this.

However if they stink it up tomorrow night as well, sando will know which players cannot take us forward and will look to a number of alternative options who will be presenting themselves next year.

Agree.

Some of our forwards don't deserve to be in the side, particularly when you've got Jenkins booting 8 goals and Martin getting 4 goals and 24 touches.

This forum could get very ugly if we lose tomorrow night. The mods might want to bring in some reinforcements.
Unbelievable what those two did to put their name forward and if all forwards did well you would understand but all small forwards stunk bad in all aspects of game and how they can justify Petrenkos inclusion this week after weeks of no impact and no idea or skills to be a forward is ridicolus
Jenkin inclusion would have provided a real presence up fwd and real flexibility if needed to cover Sandilands.
we have great reason for Sando love but when given job 2 ex Cats players both said might be too nice to make real hard decisions and certainly looks that way or pure Craig like stubborness.
Maybe we should have had Blighty in his GC role .
We might pull off this week but that 22 is not and never going to win us a premiership .
We have been carrying passengers all year no wonder Thommo, Danger , Sloane and Jacobs look b---y tired.

That's exactly right.....but I can't see how a player who has been very poor every time he's been picked will suddenly figure out how to play the game.....especially if he's put on pav, the most in form forward in the competition....I don't think they'll stick Thompson straight on pav but if/when rutten struggles then they probably won't have much choice but to put him on pav....I'm really starting to sour on the coaching staff....

making his 2nd game (I thought it was 3rd but anyway) making his 2nd game a cut throat final makes me bash my head against the wall

In the last few rounds Pets was looking reasonably dangerous around goals, looked composed. Goes to show what lack of pressure delivers. The moment the pressure is on he panics.
Yep, so we've retained him for an even higher stakes final while the tough as nails Riley sits out the weekend. Joke.

I feel I adressed this issue in my post on the previous page. Not my personal-opinion best players, either, I got it off the AFL website. I admit he had a slow first half of the year but he's completely found form since catching up with the pace of the game, as happens to anyone who has a year off.

Having thought about it for an hour or so, I really think we haven't learnt much from last week. Thompson is a given, but feel Riley was unlucky and Jenkins really should have been in the side. Reason was they have gone for an extra running player. That's fine if they actually run to the right spots. Have no real confidence that they will win this. If Sandilands goes forward for any amount of time we are cactus.

this :thumbsu:

We can all bitch and moan if, after tomorrows game, the changes that were made didn't pay off. If, however they have, I expect to see a lot of bloody  in here!

not really, because additional changes could have further enhanced the team - making it a premiership team for instance.

Also, what happens if the win is because Freo simply performane badly? and not because of any change?
