Lost by 10+ goals in the last game attended by Russell

Then lost by 10+ goals in the tribute game for Russell

Take away 11 years of falling short, those two performances alone warranted an overhaul of personnel
This is where leadership comes into it. Remember the video regarding playing Norwood after the loss of Anthony Williams? Port absolutely doesn’t mean that much to Hinkley, Jonas and I’d put even Boak. The way I understand it the older guys would always lead the way and reinforce to the younger guys what it meant to play for Port. Even how to tie up the ****** guernsey.
Those performances in honour of our greatest champion just wouldn’t have been allowed to happen. They just don’t care as much as we think they should.

This is also why the years of NOT wearing the guernsey were a disgrace!

PORT ADELAIDE will consider a Showdown AFL debut for Jake Pasini, who’s one of several options to replace Ryan Burton for Saturday night’s match with Adelaide.

Key forward Todd Marshall indicated to reporters that Tom Clurey, Riley Bonner and Pasini were all replacement options for Burton. Pasini, who was taken in the 2019 rookie draft, hasn’t played an AFL game yet, but has shown significant progress in recent months in his recovery from an ACL injury.

Marshall said he expected veteran Travis Boak would return to the Power’s starting 22 – he started as the sub against Collingwood – while backing out-of-form forward Mitch Georgiades to flip his fortunes.

Curious, would Jonas's game against Collingwood be the worst Captian's game ever in the history of PAFC in the AFL?
I would think so, by a long way.
I am not a fan of Jonas but I reckon it is a bit harsh to say worst Captain’s game in our ENTIRE history.
The game was lost at selection; we did not replace a tall defender, restricting Aliar Aiar intercepting attributes by forcing him to play as a lock down defender.
And the other selection blunder was the Jones tag on Daicos; effectively, the game was done when the tag was removed at quarter-time.

Our defence was under siege with the ball appearing in our forward line almost as soon as it was bounced.
Had we had SOS or Mathew Scarlett in their prime as our full back, we still would have been flogged.

Drew aside, our mids did not man up or run back enough to help out (and yes, I know Rozee was spelled for concussion).

So MG plays after that massive bowl of sh1tsanga he served up? We are in absolute Gold-pass city, boys & girls.

Nope. Young KPP's and Rucks you need to back in, in the AFL side. After the shit show of Butcher's mismanagement against Marshall coming on as the first KPF we've backed in properly since Tredrea should have put this discussion to bed. The continual selection of older players with a run of bad form is another matter though. Lycett, Jonas and DBJ top of that list.

Fantasia is a lazy front runner IMO.

Georgie, yes I have a soft spot. Has the tips, looks a tad confused on the ground. Why the decrease in performance after such a great first year.
Do people forget Orazio 28 goals from 15 games in 2021. I can accept the negative comments about how injury prone he is. But I think we all forget how silky & dangerous he can be. I hope they give him till at least round 6 to find form & touch.

119 points takes some beating. That day of shame is in the AFL record books.
The metrics are different. Club's greatest ever player tribute, home ground, slaughtered by a garbage team in rebuild.

As bad as 119 was it was against one of the greatest sides ever assembled & probably juiced to the gills.

'probably'. The mysterious fast muscle growth and pattern baldness caused by the Geelong drinking water. I just get angry over that day now for how Dank 1.0 is swept under the rug, because 'VFL'. Given the Hawks game was against a side we should have beaten by 10+ goals, even with Hinkley in charge, at any point, let alone in a tribute to Ebert, where players should have been extra amped to smash the opposition makes it the more disgraceful.

You did use the word 'arguably' and in your mind the metrics may be different but I will bet that opposition supporters will not cough up the Hawthorn loss as much as they will remind us about that 119pt loss to Geelong. As great as that Geelong side was we had beaten them on their home ground a month earlier and we had beaten North Melbourne a week earlier by 90 odd pts. We choked big time in the biggest game of the year and in doing so we created history that none of us want to be reminded of.

A crow supporting work colleague of mine had CXIX embroidered on his cap just in case the Port supporters on staff forgot.

That 119 point loss changed the dynamics of our Club for several years. Chocco could not handle the aftermath and the playing group never got it back together. Not sure that last year's loss to Hawthorn will have the same fallout but time may tell.

Here’s an idea.
How about talking about your favourite Showdown wins or moments.
Really over the constant doom and gloom on this board.
Well said.

My favourite Showdown moment is when Jordan Dawson kicked a goal after the siren to put us 0-3. because I thought that would be the end of it. but we're still here a year later.

I would drop Fanta for Evans: Orazio has hardly played a game in the last couple of years.
Let him find (and Georgis) find form in the Magoos.

In two trial games and two AFL rounds we have probably played two quarters of acceptable football. That hardly inspires me with confidence.
That's just not true lol. The entire game against Brisbane was good. Just because they got a bit of a run on in the second and the umps were going in hard, doesn't mean it was unacceptable. People have very short memories. Yes last week was atrocious, but the week prior was an amazing game.
