Gold Coast are playing good footy and are so much better in the hot and humid home conditions than on the road. A massive danger game for us.

Why is it that we not only copped such a harsh draw and also when we finally do get to play the lowly ranked sides, it coincides with them hitting peak form?

Everyone lifts to playing Collingwood! I guess it’s just our cross to bear.

Almost anyone else could have taken that mark & kicked that difficult goal from the boundary which put us further in front in the last and they'd be hailed a hero. WHE does it and it hardly gets a mention.
Yeah brother. It is what it is.
Supporters turning on its own players.
Acting like experts.
Front up to Fly and tell him to his face.

Macrae as an extractor I just don’t see. He’s decent at the the role at VFL but even then he doesn’t stack up to the most fringe AFL mids.

I don’t think he has the extractors build either he’s tallish and slender rather than short and built like brick shithouse.

I agree.
It begs the question - what role can he play at AFL level?

It's not like the old days of positional play. The modern roles are more complex. He's big and he's strong and can compete, but I don't think he knows how to play any of the roles in our system that well yet - let alone asking him to alternate between all 3. He's not Nick Daicos.

Up until last year I'm not sure to many people were expecting his AFL career to advance much further let alone him making a go of it as a key defender to the point a top 4 side wanted to trade him in.

In the 4 games he was forced to play as our primary ruck he performed admirably averaging 28 hit outs and he kicked a goal in 3 of those games.

No one is expecting him to be Tom Lynch or Steven May but he appears to have bloomed to the point of playing career best football and if Fly is true to his word about not putting limitations on players or team performance then I feel why should you or I.

Besides, with McStay still injured I don't feel we've got much if anything to lose playing Frampton ahead of both Johnson and Kreuger this week and in playing him we at least get to explore what our side looks like in changing the mix of our talls.

Johnson needs to be dropped. He's similar to Ginnivan, he's great when on. But in those games where he's not getting near it he doesn't put in the hard work, chase and pressure.

Checkers, McCreery, Elliot even WHE despite having quiet games will at least offer effort.
AJ will do better with McStay in the team. His goal from 50m on the run was great. Dropped a few marks he'd normally stick.

No to Kreuger : Back to 11 touches and 1 goal in the VFL. 4th Game in a row now so 2-3 more before we can trust his body at AFL intensity
There's some context needed for that. For 3/4 quarters, he wasn't really playing in a role that saw a lot of the ball. Sydney were terrible and he wasn't necessarily being targeted - we tended to score on the run more. He was big in the last.

He would, but I can't see them playing together as long as we play two rucks. Unless we have a forward injured. They just seem to be vying for the same position.
Bit like Murphy v Frampton.

I thought playing Crisp forward last week was a poor move. I'd have played him back and dropped Markov.

McCreery surely back in the starting team be it for Crisp (changed role), Harrison or Lipinski.

I think Frampton is needed back this week. Markov most vulnerable or Murphy.

I'd give Johnson another week. Kreuger and McStay will provide selection pressure.

De Goey has been badly missed.

He’s a conundrum, high draft pick, playing in the guts.
If not considered good enough for 1sts, we are wasting time and should we try and groom another player in there, Reef?
Seems like we need to find another extractor type over the off season, important role…Cal or Tyler ☺️

Johnson looks better when given that 2nd ruck role and is able to roam the ground as he has a good set of hands.

People quick to throw him out after 1 or 2 bad ones. I think the beauty at the moment is that Mason Cox is playing the best and most consistent footy of hes life. We could play Cameron ruck with Johnson pinch hitting and really try and stretch the GC backs by playing Cox permanent fwd this week. He looks like he’s A - going to mark everything or B - Going to be impeded everytime the ball goes in towards him.

I think we are still finding our mix, seems like I’m the only 1 who seems to rate Markov, the kid hasn’t put a foot wrong I don’t reckon, he’s a real competitor.

The ones who haven’t been performing the best aren’t the usual suspects it is blokes like Lippa, Crispy and up until the weekend Elliott.

True I like McCreery in the 22 but he did bring a huge amount of energy when subbed in, that’s the key with the sub, it needs to be a smaller impact type player who can run over the top when others are tired.

I think he also finds the rhythm of the game better when he can get his hands on the footy early. Settles in a bit more when he can get around the contest.
