Smithers has gone under the radar of poor form for a while now.

You could suggest DMac has had a better season than Smithers.....

Yeah, nah.

Smith at least had a dominant month which coincided with our winning streak earlier in the season.

Jones has played to an equal if not higher standard than what Douglas has shown this year and most of last. Poholke hasnt been any worse than Douglas, and EH has done his bit more often than not.

The issue is, we dont seem to give these guys a go, Wilson has destroyed the SANFL for the past 2 years and cant get a look in

Totally agree on Wilson has ripped it up in the twos can he play AFL who knows, but definetly earnt a crack at it

Jones has had 4 or 5 games and clearly shown he is not ready, as for douglas if you hadn't noticed I called for him to be dropped so leave it alone, maybe Wilson should come in and take douglas spot and move the team around to accommodate it

Jones simply isn't ready which is why Pyke hasn't given him another crack YET, blind freddy can see that

Our depth is limited which is why JJ was rushed back, it is clear EH isn't ready will he ever be, who knows, the fact everyone wants JJ rushed in after bagging the crap out of him, says a lot about how EH has performed, lets be honest now

True. But DMac is consistant.

No doubt Smithers is by far the better player. And his good form means we win games.

DMac does not have that influence. Although I generally think if he kicks a goal we win the game.

just saw the changes..wtf

douglas is more cooked than thommo in his final year. his slipping over last week against geelong was reminiscent of his early years!

mackay... well we know the coaches have their favourites. ridiculous.

two of our most dissapointing players who have always managed to let us down.

i can see them shafting galluci on the bench this week so he doesn't outperform the elder statesmen.

I'd drop one of Laird/Smith and play Milera back there. McPherson is also a chance to get a few games in the next month IMO. The club rates him extremely highly.

You know what's happened? We lost at Geelong and the reaction is not 'let's drop the old spuds and bring in good SANFL players' it's 'let's bring in the veteran known quantities on the favourites list'.

I hope we can manage to win, with certain players simultaneously spudding it up so we can drop them ready to play finals against good sides (which the Power ain't).
That's exactly what happened. We lost an unwinnable game so we panic and make way for our stars from the Neil Craig era by bringing in good old Mackay who will no doubt thrive in the wet and retain Douglas who could slip over in velcro shoes.

I’m quite surprised Mackay is playing as I expected lynch to come in. However Mackay has been pretty good this year as an outside mid.

The selection I disagree with is keeping Douglas in as I’d rather someone like Jones. Oh well, maybe it’ll click for him this week

All for showing players who have been loyal to the club but after nearly 4 weeks of seeing Douglas play, you can see he is DONE, there is noway he will be offer another 1 year contract so why play him at all.

Pfft...Shirley, Doughty, Rutten, Otten all played on Zimmer Frames in the end what makes you think Douglas will be any different?

I have liked Milera playing in the middle/resting forward. I see that as his future. An upgrade on Douglas.

McPherson deserves a crack some time soon. Highly rated and stringing some good games together.

I am not sure dropping Laird and Smithers would work. At SANFL level they wont get a defensive tag at HB like they do in the AFL. They will just rack up cheap ball with no defensive pressure.

Both guys need to work through the heavy defensive pressure they are receiving.

1) Most would love to see fog play but most would agree he isn't ready to be playing AFL footy no different to Jones or Davis even pohlkoke hasn't been able to show it at the top level
2) Why would you want blokes to be in and fail when they haven't yet shown they are capable at the elite level
3) Mackay has and he has this year dougy has played two shockers but they are hoping he finds form no different to how tex played three shockers and found form or rushing JJ back in because EH wasn't ready
1) I'd like to see Fogarty in against PA because of his mongrel, to unsettle some of their defenders. Fogarty has presence --- let him loose off the bench at some of their blokes. He'd have more impact than Davis last week.
2) That's rubbish. I don't want blokes to come in and fail. I'd say that Fogarty would have more impact than Douglas who has been useless with the fall-over fumbles, yet was retained!
3) You don't play a bloke like Dougy in the senior side to "find form". He can "find form" in the SANFL and earn his place back in the senior side if he's good enough.
Tex was a different case altogether; he's co-Captain and attracts a top defender, plus he did more off the ball than Douglas. Don't get me wrong --- I'm a huge Jacobs and Douglas fan but they're both cooked and not an asset to the senior side any longer, sadly.
We won't know if they're "rushing" JJ back in until he plays; if he performs well, the selectors got it right. If not, they're mugs. That's a part of their job.

If Dougie is being played as a forward with minimal midfield time, Fog is a better option in this role IMO.

What's happened, any idea?
How can he be worse than the Fogarty who played AFL early last year? Injury? (serious questions)
Has playing him back set him back, developmentally?

Ben Hart

I actually dont mind Dmac being in. Smithers and Laird arent breaking the lines when getting any attention. Dmac might help them in that regard.

Milera could too but I think he will play that fwd/mid role.

Smith/Laird should not even be in the same postcode as MacKay.

But they sure found themselves there last week.

I can accept a dip in form, but their actions in the first quarter were just so poor they both deserved axing.

They are crucial players for us so let’s hope they’ve been shamed through the week and bounce back.

Let’s just consider that this may be the last Showdowns, Douglas and Mackay get.

Over the next 4 weeks we have Gold Coast, Essendon, Carlton and St Kilda. If Douglas and Mackay stink it up tomorrow, there is no coming back for them, game over for them.

Oh and I look forward to seeing who Douglas runs into that will cost us a goal (probably not the match but who knows).

Laird has been disappointing this year and Smith tries to pin point a pass for 25-30m which he generally fails at. His job should be solely to get the ball and kick it 50-60m out of the half back flank and into our forward line.

He's struggling to adapt to the defensive workrate required.

The idea with playing in defence is all about learning different running patterns and learning how a defender wants to defend.

Do I agree ?? Yes in theory, I mean we are now seeing it with the Suns and Luko. They've moved him forward again, but he's a bit too easy to play against still.

It'll come though.

Douglas... it really boggles the mind.

He doesn't even seem to have those few token holdout defenders that a guy like Thommo did on these boards.

HOW is he still in the side?
