Duursma, Burton, Marshall, Rozee, what an injection of speed and skill that is!

Judging by Monty's comments about defensive attitudes, I reckon that's why they've brought it Sutcliffe as he probably demonstrates the consistent involvement in the press that a younger player like Woodcock might still be lacking a little bit. He is also a flexible player and can fit in most places around the ground, which Kern obviously loves in Westhoff. I'd rather get games into youth but I reckon we don't see a lot of Sutcliffe's good work because it's off the ball, covering space and tagging. The coaches obviously do, and for the most part we've got selections right this year, so while it's disappointing I don't think it's melt-worthy.

Good time to rest Woodcock as well, having him and Farrell fight really hard in training for that small forward/winger spot come finals is a great selection dilemma to have. Unfortunate for Georgie to have a niggle but he's been due a rest for a while now and having him fresh for finals alongside Dixon and Marshall will be integral.

Mayes has had a few down weeks but he is the perfect player to have waiting in the wings ready for finals. An experienced, composed, reliable head ready to slot in if we have an injury. Lienert, Motlop just not good enough at the moment. Bonner offers a different offensive angle coming out of defence but he probably comes straight out for Houston next week.

The big question is Westhoff. Do we have the balls to drop him when Ladhams comes back? Do we play him with both Ladhams/Lycett as the roaming tall down back? If we can manage to get the Hoff into form come finals time, that is an incredible X-factor to have, but there hasn't been one shred of evidence this year that at 33 he can reach those heights again.

With a near-fully fit list, things are going to get interesting. Please make the most of this Ports.

i agree

he was fine. He will be fine against Sydney

If fine is what we’re happy with let’s fold the ******* club though

Sutcliffe isn’t as horrendous as people may make out but he’s a finished product. He is the player he is, a barely competent role player, and he’s never becoming more than that.

so when he’s regularly getting games over younger players with unknown ceilings it’s infuriating.

hell, we’ve got a bunch of players who we need to make calls on at the end of this year or next and guys who may leave for more opportunities.

garner, drew Hayes (but westhoff is going eek out a few extra games as a complete passenger hey) and atley for starters. Come the end of the year we’re gonna have no idea whether these players have more to offer and will make a decision anyway.

then we will have holes on our list we will have to throw picks / money at to fix and put a bunch more time into developing all because Hinkley wanted to play Sutcliffe into the magical 70 afl games territory before he becomes a trivia question.
I agree, but now is not the ime to play younger playes if Port are a serious contender. The focus now needs to be fine tuning the best 22 so that we can hit the finals with a full strength side.

Sutcliffe is an upgrade on Motlop. Come at me.

I said this earlier in the week. Only reason why I'm not upset about it as it's true. However would have just preferred woodcock stay in.

this view proposes that our older players have been reliable first 22 while younger players have been poor.

It’s quite literally been the opposite.

woodcock was doing very well and there’s no argument that playing him would cost us finals based on anything in reality.

None of Drew, Garner or Atley can play deep forward like Sutcliffe will

We bring back Burton, Rozee, Marshall and Duursma and people still manage to lose their sh*t

I love you Port board

they were obvious calls. Who in their right mind wouldn’t have brought in those players if they were fit?

I think people have a right to be confused by hinkleys selection policy. There is definitely gaps in the logic. He’s shuffling deck chairs.

Agreed, but if we were going to debut anymore of our youngsters it should have been a few weeks ago. 4 weeks out from finals is the not the time. Woodcock is likely being rested. Ladhams will replace Westhoff and Houston will replace Bonner/Sutcliffe, which will balance the side better.

Coaches look at our team as we come to a Finals campaign. They then decide we need a player that can perform a lockdown/defensive role.
Who do we have? Cam Sutcliffe. I applaud the coaches that they are constantly looking at our needs.
Get him in now, see if he is up to it, and make the call in a couple of weeks.
The role was Motlops to make his own, but he has shown he is not up to it at the moment.

What possible ****ing reason is there to drop an in form Woodcock for Sutcliffe against a bottom 4 side.

Like Neade and Sam Gray before him, Sutcliffe needs to be delisted for the good of the team so the decision is out of Ken's hands. Nothing against him as a person, but if he's on our list Ken Hinkley is going to keep picking him for no reason at the expense of younger and/or better players, so he has to go for the good of the club.

What's the bet that 'TBC' is Lycett and they're holding that information back to delay the melts before they reveal that Ken has decided to play a side with literally zero ruckmen in it because he had to make room for Sutcliffe.
