Time for a team selection / changes thread

In:

Ryan - Cox - Dumin
Hughes - Logue - Watson
Aish - Tucker - McCarthy
Banfield - Tabs - Walters
Schultz - Lobb - Sturt

Darcy - Fyfe - Brayshaw

Conca - Blakely - Crowden - Cerra

- I dont reckon Hill will be fit. Just a feeling
- Blakely apparently was BOG for Peel. At his best is too good to leave out.
- Banfield to play on Saad as defensive forward.
- I think Watson and Sturt deserve a debut.

Out:

Nada

Too early for Watson. If Hill misses, then Aish goes back and Bewley (preferably not) plays on a wing. If Hill misses, it hurts and stuffs up our structures, Bewley and McCarthy on the wings is laughable.

Agree on Sturt. Really hope we give Serong a run, I honestly think Blakely is meh.

I'd be happy for Watson to play, he's been the surprise packet of the preseason for me. Looks very assured down back.

Whether he's high enough in the pecking order to stay in with the players we still have to add I'm not sure though. Aish might take his spot in the backline.

Going off the team against West Coast.

In: Aish, Ryan.
Out: Serong, Dixon, Crowden, Hill.

Ryan - Logue - Duman
Hughes - Cox - Watson
Aish - Fyfe - McCarthy
Banfield - Taberner - Walters
Schultz - Lobb - Sturt
Darcy - Brayshaw - Tucker
Conca - Blakely - Cerra - Bewley

Judged heavily by time on ground, Serong 20%, Dixon 36%, Crowden 51% tells me they’ll play for Peel.

Edit: Not sure why I didn’t expect Hill to be injured.

On paper, its going to be a Rd 1 team similar, maybe a little more diminished in personnel to the one that lost at home to Essendon in Rd 22 - where Mundy, B.Hill and Langdon were 3 of of top 4 possession winners.

Conca Cox Ryan
Duman Logue Hughes
Aish Tucker McCarthy
Walters Tabs Banfield
Shultz Lobb Sturt
Darcy Fyfe Brayshaw

Blakely Cerra Crowden Colyer

It really does depend on what Essendon look like having. I feel that this team is a bit short & would consider Dixon for the 4th bench spot, but again that depends on Essendon.

Darcy is so important for us to remain potent up forward. If he, Lobb or Tabs go down then McCarthy goes forward & there is coverage on the bench & through the mids to cover that positional change. But we would look a bit impotent up forward.

Agree with OP & the use of Banfield. All of Essendon run comes from half back & one defensive half forward is a must.

Blakely gives options both back & mid & gets the nod over Bewley & Serong for now.

Shit there’s lots out, but it will certainly allow the club to make decisions on a few who will be exposed & will definitely be beneficial for the future seasons.

Watson needs to add size and strength before he can defend successfully in the air. He's been good this pre-season, but hes not in our best 6 defensively.
Back 6 probably looks like:
FB - Ryan Logue Conca
HB - Hill Cox Hughes
With Aish to rotate through and Duman in if Hills out.

Sturt on the other hand I believe we can carry - yes he has the same issues with size and strength, but he plays at the opposite end and shouldn't be under too many high balls in 1 on 1's. As long as he gets on his bike and leads to the ball he'll avoid these as he did in the preseason.

I think you’ll find Colyer is in before blakely.

Taking a stab before 5 more blokes get injured and Butters debuts in round 1. This is who I think will play, not who I want.

Duman Cox Conca

Ryan Logue Hughes

Aish Fyfe Bewley

Cam Lobb Walters

Schultz Tabs Sturt

Darcy Andy Tucker

Banfield Colyer Cerra Crowden/Watson

Outs: Watson/Crowden, Serong, Dixon, Hill

Clearly I think Crowden should stay in but not sure which of he and Tobe will stay. Personally I would take Colyer and Watson out and leave Crowden and Serong.

Our injury list is putrid. Robs us of a damn strong team.
It's getting beyond a joke. I vaguely remember sirswampthing tweeting that Freo has had more seasons missing 5+ players in their B22 in round 1 than any other club over the past decade. Might have the details wrong but it was damning. By my count we will be missing at least 8 B22 players in Rd 1. Round ****ing 1!!!

But we're just unlucky I suppose

Yep:thumbsu:

Bellchambers, Daniher, Stewart, Heppell, Hooker (maybe), Ambrose, Hibberd and Walla (maybe)

Apparently these are outs from Bummers.
Walla apparently will play, but the others are probs out.
So they've got a few out as well.
Home ground, so they are faves and we haven't done real well at Etihad for a while.
I do remember a young Freo team beating the tankers there way back, when a young Fyfe starred and Barlow had leather poisoning.
Hopefully same again, with a young Freo team. Wouldn't bet on it though

At present we are $3.11 to win
