Re: Changes round 17 v West Coast

Hayden was carried off late which has only been described as a 'leg injury' which requires scans...so far!

either way...none of those words inspires confidence that he'll be fit this week.

Griffin has a sore hip & will be tested & Johnson a calf issue!

Suban - not ready unless he's a sub imo (after watching him at Subi Oval)

McPharlin - almost tba...pending suspension

I doubt any changes unless forced.....

Maybe

OUT: Hayden (inj), Roberton
IN: Mellington, Bradley

Re: Changes round 17 v West Coast

Radio call said it was Hayden carried off by two trainers. I think the genius' days are numbered. His body is just not up to it anymore.

Did anyone see Suban play this weekend? Clancee could be another option. How did he go with the black ducks?

I think Plugga you might be right with your changes there...
I think Duffman may have one last chance in the Derby to find some touch or he too may find himself dropped!

Unfortunately, if Hayden is injured (and I hope he's not!) Duffield will be given a free pass for a few weeks. Especially with the Weagle's press and the premium on having good kicks in the back line to combat it.

Re: Changes round 17 v West Coast

Faulks is not setting the world on fire at WAFL level.

Faulks has been good since returning from injury a few weeks back.

TBH other than not having the greatest endurance when he arrived and struggling with injury - due to him cranking up his workload to improve his endurance - I'm not sure why he's had so much criticism directed at him on this board.

Everytime he's strung some games together he's shown himself to be a good/solid shut down defender.

the reason he gets criticised is because people on here believe that he should be luke mcpharlin already. even though he came to the club injured, had to acclimatise to the conditions, and there were rumours he had a problem with endurance. couple that with the fact he was playing in a peel side that was getting belted week in week out at the start of the year and you get the picture as to why he was struggling. people want immediate results, however those people also fail to understand that things take time. for every michael barlow there is 4 peter faulks' who need to be nurtured rather than thrown straight into the deep end. the fact that we have unearthed broughts, silvagni and gotten lower as well is staggering and a great feather in the clubs cap

faulks will be good. needs time and development, next year he will play regular footy

Yeah, fair call strobe00. Still he has been on the quite side for the last few matches.

If we lose McPharlaps that will be bad!

Re: Changes round 17 v West Coast

Out: Johnson (Copped a knock and seems down on form past couple games) + Hayden or Roberton (depending on Hayden's inj)

In: Keplar (has earnt his spot) + Suban (sub)

Roberton played perhaps his best game of the year against the Swans, he's not coming out.

Johnson and Hayden will test based on their respective injuries. I'd have thought that with the possibility of McPharlin being suspended that Johnson would not be dropped if available in that instance.

Re: Changes round 17 v West Coast

Sorry to double post but I think maybe Griffin will have a quiet game also against the weagles. Players not so seasoned have the ability to burst onto the park in their 1st game and then slowly taper off after a few games as reflected in his 1st game with us then he got progressively quieter. Missed a week and then burst on the scene again to which he's slowly tapered off again.

It'll be intriguing to see who makes the extended bench this week, already looking forward to it!

Fyfe to go head to head with Shuey/Gaff. :)

Room for Crowley, Bradley and Suban?? 211 can sit this one out.

I'd also like to see Mellington (Smokey Jnr) get a Derby under his belt.

(Can the thread title be changed to Rnd 18???)

SUB: Mellington

Looks likely that 211 ain't gonna be ready and Hayden is injured so revised this is my Ins and outs.

Out: Hayden, Johnson

In: Suban, Mellington

Suban can come straight in for Hayden and Mellington would provide better defensive pressure and as a leading option.

Out of the side that played the last derby (bold good players):

Anthony
Bradley
Crichton
Crowley
Mundy
Pearce
Pitt
Sandilands
Van Berlo

Likely ins (bold good players):

Ballantyne
Barlow
Clarke
Griffin
Mzungu
Palmer
Roberton
Silvagni
Suban (?)

I think there's a slight improvement for our side. Sandilands and Mundy are big outs. Barlow and Ballas are big ins. Silvagni helps us structurally against their forwardline (no Lynch on Johnson).

We're not missing Sandilands as much as we'd think - sure, he'd be great against the West Coast ruck division, but his absence also makes our mids work harder. Still a big out, but not an excuse for not performing.

Out of our hypothetical best 22:

Hayden
Morabito
Mundy
Sandilands

A lot of quality there but nothing we should not be able to cover.

I hope to christ we don't bring Crowley back, but I have this nagging feeling Harvey will like him in the derby even though time has passed him on.

They'll probably have Kerr, Embley, McKenzie and Waters as ins, at the expense of Butler, Masten, McGinnity and Sheppard from the round 8 game. So they improve as well, aside from Waters.

Big improvement on the side from last derby

Well not that big, but we won't go in flat and expecting to win like last time

Griffin will get his first taste of a derby after following Freo his whole life - expect him to own

Barlow is a derby specialist (despite only playing one derby), as is Silvagni and of course Ballantyne loves to pi** off the other team :p

Broughton, Lower, Barlow, and Fyfe seem like a pretty hard working, solid midfield with a touch of class that can match it with West Coast's division. This should do what we've all dreamed and release Pav up forward.

The Griffin/Clarke vs Cox/Naitanui combo will be interesting. They'll win the battle, but if Griffin and Clarke can nullify their influence, we'll be doing better than last game. Sandilands is a monster, but even he can't beat two quality rucks, and that really hurt us.

Will be interesting to see what Harvey does.
