Despite that, the impact on the game was similar because Banfield doesn’t impact the game outside being the last link in a chain for goal.

I said it was a marginal call and I stick by that. First game back was what I expected for Sturt, simply hitting two targets inside 50 is worth its weight in gold in this team
I think he should get another crack. He adds something a bit different to the front half and we don't have a lot of options.

It's funny really. Imagine if Henry had Sturts game yesterday.

I'd go with an unchanged team other than Switta who will be an out (played a shocker last week anyway and did nothing today before being subbed out). Freddy would want to do something next week. Our worst today after Switta. If you're going to do backflips onfield, you've got to back it up with something.

I thought Freddy looked good once we started moving the ball quickly. He will panic defenses with his speed if we can get it into the forward line while we’ve got even numbers.

Henry vs Sturt? Not a fair comparison at a multitude of levels. He's had heaps more opportunities, positionally he
should be winning a lot more ball than Sturt. Anyway, FWIW, stats below.

Good God man, I didn't compare them as players. They don't even play the same position!

It's a reference to 'favourites' V 'whipping boys'

I've seen most of the game now.

I swear most of you have never heard a JL press conference. Sturt will stay in as long as he does enough defensive stuff. That was the reason he didn't get games last year and is the reason he got one this week.

If he keeps it up he'll stay in and someone with his finishing is going to kick goals with some continuity. That and he set up a few today anyone and really should have kicked 1 at the end. If we dropped blokes for missing sodas we'd be using top-up players by round 3 every year.
Sturt didn’t have a lot of defensive acts. He did have three tackles. I didn’t mind his game. Would like him to get a bit more involved and end up with a few more possessions.

What I did like is his speedy leads at the ball carrier. If he doesn’t end up with the ball he opens up the space. He dropped a couple of marks when leading at full speed but kept ball in front of him. One example out on the wing half forward in the third quarter hit the ball at speed and didn’t quite mark but directed the ball to another who ran through at speed and the subsequent i50 resulted in a quick transition goal.

Compare this to Banfield who late dropped a mark. Noting wrong with the kick - he slowed his lead and then tried to take a chest mark. Resulted in an easy spoil by Mac Andrew - a spoil he palmed to one of his players and an i50 goal to GC.

Happy for him to stay as there were some signs and deserves another game. I also feel it takes a couple of weeks to get up to the intensity and speed of AFL. Same goes for Wagner but personally I felt he needed another game with Peel and it showed in the first half particularly. He was quite rusty and slow to kick.

Yeah well tbf there hardly must listen to events….

I listen to them in the shower post game. There's usually a couple of questions that are interesting and a couple of moments responding that are too. This latest one was the question about Walters and Cox having words, suggesting Cox was giving Walters some thoughts - with JL laughing asking if that might have been more the other way around.

I missed the last quarter yesterday and had to watch the replay putting 20km on the bike so I earn that shower press conference.

Haha
- the only time I have a shower after watching a game of footy is if I ve had to barrack for Carlton due to my tipping comp.

Yea meant as in not so much content as just in his delivery.
It’s painful viewing

Of course it should taint him. Awful effort. The chance to seal the game and he missed everything. Cracked under pressure. Gave a clear indication he is not ready for this level. A near-miss would have been acceptable but that kick was god-awful and capped off a woeful night. He has had enough chances. He is not up to it.
that ball left his boot with 10 seconds to go. if that somehow cost us the game, we would have had to melt down and give away 50m penalties on an unprecedented level and even then we still probably were safe time wise

Wilson deserves his spot back from Wagner after his game today.

Brodie and JOM to swap, making JOM the sub.
I'd like to see Erasmus get a reprieve from being tagged as an inside mid in the WAFL and come in to replace Switta and play as a bit of a utility; wing, mid, forward.
And, as I said Wilson in for Wagner.

I haven't seen a game at Freo oval so I can't compare.

Despite its dimensions, Norwood Oval has a bit of history and is a heritage site about 2km east of Adelaide. Its right near 'The Parade', which is a bit of an elegant part side of Adelaide - lots of cafes, restaurants, niche shops etc.

To the frustration of WA viewers, surely the game was played late afternoon on a Friday to bring in as much revenue to Norwood pre and post game and leaving the night-life side of things to the city.

Adelaide does have a good feel to it at the moment, there are lots of general AFL fans with their kits around the city and people are definitely up and about a lot more.

The reason these games are sold out is that they are pretty well-priced with most tickets being about $20-$40 - surely subsidised to bring revenue into SA. I imagine that all cities around Australia will be making a pitch to get the Gather Round next year. Going to the double-header tomorrow, should be a good couple of games, question is do I wear my Freo juju or go as a bystander?
We won, so promote the purple.

I’m not really clear on why Wilson was dropped for Wagner, but dropping anyone on a 1 game sample is a no go for me. So Wagner stays for me, hopefully his 2nd game better than his 1st.

If Switta is out Brodie the easy in - although not a fan of the team balance there. However that balance delivered a lift in the 2nd half yesterday, so maybe we persist with that.

On principle I agree that dropping someone after 1 game is rough but Wagner was WAAAAAYYYYYYY off the pace.

So Brodie shouldn't have come back into the side this week? Some say he was the main reason we got back into the game.
