Did it ever occur to you that the reason Amiss was taking more marks on the lead and in more 1 on 1 contests was Sturt was leading to a different spot? Rather than old Tabs getting in the way?

One of the most important functions of forwards is to actually spread out to positions where they won't get the ball.

Fritsch averaged under 10 possessions over 2021-22. It's not a position that lends itself to high possession numbers. Sturt still needs to get a little bit more involved, but he doesn't need to do too much more. You can't expect him to knock it out of the park in his first senior game in years.
I appreciate it was Sturt’s first game in years but he has shown very little in his Peel games and virtually nothing in most of his AFL games. I think people are just struggling to let go of the dream he was going to turn out ok.

sturt definitely didn’t have the impact some of this board expected him to have lol, banners easily had a better game and that was one of his poorer games. in saying that i’d keep him in, hasn’t played a lot of footy but had some good things about him. adds a bit of pace and (hopefully) a decent mark and good kick at goal tho he didn’t show that off at all.

amiss really shown what he’s about, he’s very clever and surprisingly strong in marking contests, let’s hope that continues. LJ showed the impact he can have, still running under the ball a bit but now he’s hanging onto them and a surprisingly good kick as well, good on him.

wagner i’m not sure is the quality we need, got pushed around quite easily, would switch him for chaps if he’s ready. switta out so expect ras is next up? or maybe corbett? either way i’d expect to go to sub and brodie in.

hopefully tabs stays out though, get him right and ticking in the wafl

Will just be Switta for Brodie I imagine with the best of Henry and Noddy from Peel to get sub
depending on performance, what about Erasmus? Emmett to be considered for sub? I feel like these riskier ideas invigorate change; a new lifeforce and the players enjoy it, they get a bit spunked up about some of the new breed getting their go...after all, the squad is heller young!
I feel like Driz needs more time at Peel. Henry too, unforch.

I wouldn't mind seeing Ras in for Jaeger, although I suspect it won't happen. Just to provide that extra grunt & steel in the mid, they're (Bulldogs) quite strong there. Although there will be no Bailey Smith. Wagner might get omitted, which would be a bit harsh but you could justify it. Brodie simply has to come back into the 22. Drop Jaeger to shake him up, like we just did to Brodie.

IN: Erasmus, Emmett (sub)
OUT: Switta (INJ), O'Meara (Omitted)

Brodie in for JOM surely.

Should probs drop Banfield too but I could go either way on it.
actually thought Bailey was pretty good yesterday. Never going to be in the 'best 6', but his game wasn't even close to putrid like it can be (!). I'm okay if he stays (for now). Which is highly probable.

He played 1 Peel game in miserable conditions this year for 14 touches, 4 tackles, 2 goals. That's actually a very good output for someone in his position. The last couple of games in 2022 were similar, only with 3 and 4 goals. His pre-season AFL games were more than fine.

I think your expectations are maybe too high for what the stats sheet should look like for someone in his position. Six possessions isn't enough long term. But if he gets it up to around 10-12 touches average and kicks 1 or 2 goals each week, that is all he needs on the stat sheet if his movement patterns are good. Collingwood play 2 (WHE, McCreery) with sort of similar roles. They get maybe a dozen touches and the odd goal. Last night there was Cumberland (7 touches, snagged 2 goals) and Hayward (9 touches, 0 goals). These aren't abnormal numbers at AFL level.

There's other types like Heeney or Taylor who might be a bit more mid inclined than Sturt and get higher numbers. Someone like Tholstrup would have been perfect if we kept our 1st. I'd put Erasmus in now to take Switta's spot. I have long wanted to move away from the tall timber + midget setup towards mobile players with marking capacity.

I've seen most of the game now.

I swear most of you have never heard a JL press conference. Sturt will stay in as long as he does enough defensive stuff. That was the reason he didn't get games last year and is the reason he got one this week.

If he keeps it up he'll stay in and someone with his finishing is going to kick goals with some continuity. That and he set up a few today anyone and really should have kicked 1 at the end. If we dropped blokes for missing sodas we'd be using top-up players by round 3 every year.

I like Sturt and think he should stay in. But the free pass given to him on here is bit much. Okay, so he did well to win the ball on the wing but then stuffed the kick going into the forward. Missed from 40 metres out with a shanked kick, but shhh don't mention that. Compared to every scrutiny that Banners gets for every so called mistake. Gets overlooked for the goals his kicks should be a given. Think most here think Banners is the one that keeps Sturt out, hence the crap he gets

We are already the youngest and least experienced team in the comp. We don’t need to deliberately keep driving down on age and experience - it won’t make us better in the short term, and won’t help the young blokes develop any better.

brodie comes in for switta. I’d expect NOD to be in the mix if he’s fit, and that’s about it.

sturt will need to improve if he wants to stay in. And I’d like to see what Treacy can do alongside amiss, but id probably give Sturt another week before changing - stability helps build chemistry and connection.

My only problem with giving players time to "settle" is our season is essentially on the line every week atm, especially in an 8 point game against the dogs.

Brodie obviously has to come in for a full game.

I would like Corbett to come in, I think a forward line of Amiss, Corbett and Jackson has a nice balance to it. This would potentially drop Sturt.

Give Sturt the vest.

Honestly as much as it sucks for him, if I was the coach I'm bringing in Wilson for Wagner this week. Can't afford those turn overs against the bullies. Wagner had an injury interrupted pre season, let him build more confidence up playing for peel, I'm sure he will get another chance.

I wonder what the go is with Fyfe...
Agreed on Wagner - he looked a couple of levels below AFL standard.

He had no-one to kick to in the fifty after his run down the wing. Tried to screw it to Jackson's advantage but Jackson was beaten by the bounce. Every other player in our forward fifty at the time were GC players.

He should have kicked at least one of his goals. Hopefully he will when he relaxes a little. He is a pretty good kick for goal and he was getting most of those in the WAFL

Brodie for Switta heads us back down that path of 'one-paced midfield'. Not sure who should replace Switta but pace and flair is required.

Of course it should taint him. Awful effort. The chance to seal the game and he missed everything. Cracked under pressure. Gave a clear indication he is not ready for this level. A near-miss would have been acceptable but that kick was god-awful and capped off a woeful night. He has had enough chances. He is not up to it.
Moronic post

He has played 5 AFL games in 4 years, how the **** is that enough chances?

Genuinely dumb post

I get that but what I'm saying is Banners had a kick where there was no other person in the forward except Amiss who he was waiting for to make a lead but didn't so it ended up being a nothing kick to him. The difference is people have all the excuses for sturt

That is one occasion. He handed the ball back all day by foot but was good by hand. If Sturt gets as many opportunities as Banfield and keeps making fundamental errors, he will get the same reaction. Sturt is nowhere near two years of opportunity to improve at the level. We also don't know what Stuart's role was.
