Hayes finlayson pasini Farrell and Williams all put their hands up for selection today.

Farrell probably needs more time, Williams still isn’t producing over 4 qtrs but I’ll take 2 qtrs of a forward playing in our forward line over 4 qtrs of a mid convert.

Hayes And finlayson both have to come in.

Motlop , mcintee , dumont, lycett out

Hayes , finlayson and 2 out of pasini McKenzie , Alir and Williams in.

Mayes to sub.

Would strongly consider adding rozee to that list, only a lack of natural forwards available saving him.

Thought Dumont did well when he came on and played well for the Maggies.

Aliir spent about half a season forward at Sydney and he hated it so much he immediately asked for a trade.
You sure about that? He was still playing in defence in round 21, 2019 against us. He came to us in 2020. I remember Charlie kicking a cracker on Alir. I thought he left because he didn’t want to play ruck. Goal Number 8: 2019 Goals of the Season - The Final 10

At the end of 2020, yes. As in after the 2020 season, not after the 2019 season.

He played ruck/forward against us in 2020.

I mean, on one hand who cares, but on the other I'll play your silly speculation game:

Out:
-Hinkley
-Bassett

And then from on the field:
-Lycett, assuming out injured
-Wines, assuming out also
- Neade sorry, Sam Gray oops I meant, Kane Mitchell oh wait, no, Cam Hitchcock still not it, McEntee! That's him. Yeah he's out.
-Mayes,was ok against the fruit tingles, not so much against the dementors
-Motlop/Rozee/Marshall (probably stays in due to height)
-Dumont*

*was the sub, could remain so, but I'd make it Duursma maybe? Or Farrell if we wanna ease him in gently.

In:
-Robbie? Are we still playing Robbie? A few posters haven't mentioned Robbie? Geniune question, are we all that keen on playing the kids?
-McKenzie, assuming he's fit again
-sigh, Finlayson I guess. We need goals, he kicked 6 of them
-Hayes!!! For the love of Russell! Play Hayes!
-Farrell, though I suspect he'll need another game in the SANFL

Hayes is not an AFL level ruckman, just can't fathom people talking him up.
Hayes 32 hitouts 1g 14d sharing a lot of ruck time with visentini and some with finlayson.

what kind of stats do you think he would be getting if he was actually good? 18d 3G and 49 hitouts. Cause I can tell you young rucks just don’t do that.

Hayes numbers are huge, ****ing huge.

He’s getting his hands on the taps as much as any top end ruck does. He’s getting high disposals. He’s taking contested grabs.

It’s unrealistic to expect that much more from him.

The only real cons of Hayes are that he’s a bit of a lumbering dinosaur ruck, but that really doesn’t matter if he’s doing those things well. We don’t need another mid, we need a ruck.

Hayes has fared well up against a decent afl ruck in O’Brien, and beaten the 26 year old Strahan who’s a decent backup ruck on multiple occasions.

As I pointed out to someone the other day, Gawn was not max Gawn in his first season playing for the demons. He wasn’t match fit and running like he does now. He built that up playing in the afl.

A few years experience and maturing body, Hayes could be the size and level of Nankervis. He is a similar type to Toby.

He even used the big frame in the sanfl game to knock a couple of players over in field play.

I didn’t think we used Hayes’ taps to our advantage yesterday but that may well have been the doing of our midfielders, not him. I was a bit more impressed by Visentini’s aggressiveness and leap, but that’s because I haven’t really expected much from him until now.

We need to play Hayes, we need to get Aliir back and we possibly but not definitely need to get Finlayson back. If Lycett is fit, I’d prefer we play Hayes as a genuine second ruck than Finlayson tbh. I still think the latter is too flaky and not desperate or competitive enough at AFL level.

Frederick back in for mine instead of McEntee. Why not try him forward?

If Wines plays and Gray is fit, then Gray comes in for Dumont and Mead is made the sub.

I wouldn't bring Finlayson in. Give one of the young guys a go. We have nothing to lose. You never know what could happen.
What young guys? You mean lord and visentini?

I think visentini is very much a ruck and not a kf, and we need to get games into Hayes first.

And both lord and visentini need a bit more time imo.

If we had no other options I think we could bring them in, and I’m certainly a fan of and been very vocal that other teams have success developing players in the league sides.. but there’s still time with lord and visentini.

Lycetts nearly done and we need to get games into hayes right now.

There’s time to get games into lord and visentini in 2023 and 2024 when both are still under 22 years old.

I don't think that we should write the season off just yet. We were better than Brisbane until we picked up 5 injuries played a man short, and they ran over us. Hawthorne had a remarkable and not repeatable game in front of the sticks. When the siren went, we were ahead of the crows, those sorts of games are in the hands of the gods. Melbourne, we usually play the Suns after a showdown any other team, and we would have a 100% loss rate after a showdown. Now the team has issues any team going no further than 2 prelims will have issues, and we have injuries to important players, but we are 4 games in and a win can't be far away. In season terms, it's not even quarter time yet.

We have Carlton (MCG), West Coast (AO where they're 5-0), St Kilda (Cairns), Bulldogs (AO), North (Tas), then Geel (Kardinia)

I wish I shared your blind optimism.
