We have Carlton (MCG), West Coast (AO where they're 5-0), St Kilda (Cairns), Bulldogs (AO), North (Tas), then Geel (Kardinia)

I wish I shared your blind optimism.
Not really blind of the next 6 games, I can't see a team that we can't beat. If we pick up 4 wins from those 6 games, we are back in the mix with some injured stars to return. Way too early to write the team off. My only real concern is that the lack of finals success has eroded the team's confidence. But a few wins should restore that. As a lifelong Port supporter I have no illusions about how badly we can play, but I have so many memories of come from behind wins, that has been our trademark.

Out: Mayes, Lycett (inj), Wines (inj), McEntee
In: Finlayson, Hayes, Gray, Aliir

I'd like to ditch Rozee but as one of the only players in our squad who somewhat resembles a forward with craft and speed he has to stay in for this week. Once Farrell is up to speed he comes in for him. Maybe Frederick could come in and do something in this role.

I'd love to see Williams play - a genuinely exciting and talented goal scoring player that we rarely see for Port. Just needs to stay in the game longer and do the little things better. Regardless him and Gray is too slow.

If Aliir isn't ready then Pasini comes in and if Gray needs longer Dumont is the next cab off the rank.

Only way Williams plays is as an emergency sub, still cant run out a game. Started on fire yesterday with 2 quick goals, had spurts in midfield, but by late in 3rd quarter was in agony with full body cramps and had to go off.

Hayes 32 hitouts 1g 14d sharing a lot of ruck time with visentini and some with finlayson.

what kind of stats do you think he would be getting if he was actually good? 18d 3G and 49 hitouts. Cause I can tell you young rucks just don’t do that.

Hayes numbers are huge, ******* huge.

He’s getting his hands on the taps as much as any top end ruck does. He’s getting high disposals. He’s taking contested grabs.

It’s unrealistic to expect that much more from him.

The only real cons of Hayes are that he’s a bit of a lumbering dinosaur ruck, but that really doesn’t matter if he’s doing those things well. We don’t need another mid, we need a ruck.

Hayes has fared well up against a decent afl ruck in O’Brien, and beaten the 26 year old Strahan who’s a decent backup ruck on multiple occasions.

As I pointed out to someone the other day, Gawn was not max Gawn in his first season playing for the demons. He wasn’t match fit and running like he does now. He built that up playing in the afl.
Hayes did not beat Strachan, the only AFL listed ruckman he'll come up against. As you yourself note he's a an old ruck dinosaur, can't see him outperforming any AFL ruckman. It's just an opinion. On the other hand Visentini already more upside than Hayes,.

Ollie out for 3 weeks fu**

now.… I’m not using big footy to spread crackpot theories. However, this article got me thinking. Given how many players missed components of pre-season, it could explain why Port are so unfit. Covid sucks and sticks around.

I’m in the military and consider myself above average for fitness, but since having Covid, my fitness just isn’t there at the moment.

was there ever any official line about which players contracted covid in the pre-season?

at any given time amongst a large population, some people will randomly contract strange illnesses and afflictions

scientifically we know that covid itself produces much worse adverse outcomes than the vaccine does, but that doesn't stop human nature from doing the ol' correlation = causation thing and putting stuff down to vaccines.

disappointing that footy boofheads on tv with a large platform chose to run with that however.

there's room for sensible discussion on the topic but anti vax nutjobs railroading it really makes it difficult.

Tbh I was in hospital for a week after the first injection and 5 days after the second I'm still ****ed now and am constantly at the Dr's I wasn't the fittest bloke before hand butbim struggling to work 8 hours a day at my regular job (fantastic furniture)

I don't think that we should write the season off just yet. We were better than Brisbane until we picked up 5 injuries played a man short, and they ran over us. Hawthorne had a remarkable and not repeatable game in front of the sticks. When the siren went, we were ahead of the crows, those sorts of games are in the hands of the gods. Melbourne, we usually play the Suns after a showdown any other team, and we would have a 100% loss rate after a showdown. Now the team has issues any team going no further than 2 prelims will have issues, and we have injuries to important players, but we are 4 games in and a win can't be far away. In season terms, it's not even quarter time yet.
I agree.

I actually feel for the guy because from the outside it looked like he stayed in Adelaide and trained for most of the preseason. He just doesn’t seem to have the tank.

Hayes is not an AFL level ruckman, just can't fathom people talking him up. Finlayson will always be an inbetweener, to good for SANFL and not good enough for AFL. The only ones I see pieces of AFL traits/qualities are Visentini, Burgoyne and Farrell.

Sensible chuckle at the chutzpah of thundercloud liking a post which writes off a young ruck who is yet to even debut at the level.

how is it possible to be that unfit as an afl listed player is he scoffing darts and meat pies at half time?

Evens it out really.

We played like horseshit vs GC, so who knows what will happen.

Cripps was in ripper form, better than Wines' form though and he's our captain and still the guy who gets us going the most...if Aliir is back I'd say this game is 50/50.
If your boys just have an average game, you can keep us goalless for 2 quarters.
