There is no way would I defer to our current crop of coaches for talent identification. The club isn't even AFL standard right now and I'm supposed to trust these assholes with our future?

You pulled this same deference bullshit with Jarryd Lyons. You said he was substitute because the coaches didn't rate him and they would know better than us. Now you're here making the same kind of bullshit argument all over again.

it's confusing how Knight, who has played most of his career in graveyard role that so many posters whine 'ruins' our supposedly talented kids, was a mid-late pick, local, probably not on huge money, playing his first game back from injury and it's his selection or not that will change our team's fortunes?

Not the form or attitudes of our higher draft pick kids, or highly paid 'stars' (and i use this term loosely at present) being played in the guts doing nothing.

It's almost like the whole system, coaching and fitness are stuffed.

No, couldn't be. Must be Knight.

Knight's selection is a representation of our issues.

He's a 50 game player that's never shown anything at AFL level and he gets selected ahead of young players with potential for what reason exactly?

Knights played 55 games now. Reckon he could get a go at another club, but he won't develop any further in our structure.

Ahead of who? Poholke who's shown less?
He's been selected behind Murphy who's shown less.

And posters don't want players like Ned and Schoenberg played in the graveyard role.

Yeah. He looks like he's lost a yard of pace and he wasn't that quick to begin with.

I feel like with our middle boring draft hands we've mostly had, so many of our players have been defined by effort rather than skill/talent and either the car crash of an admin situation/camp or the fitness staff or all of it has sapped that from them leaving them with not much.

I don't rate Poholke either but our coaching group hasn't earned the kind of trust/faith Vader seems to put in them.
I don't trust them not to hang onto senior players long after they've passed their "use by date". I do trust them when they decide that a player just doesn't have what it takes - especially when we're talking about a player like Poholke, who has had plenty of opportunities and continually failed to show anything beyond an ability to get caught HTB.

Agree or disagree with selection, which is inevitable regardless of the coach, Nicks has been dealt an extremely tough hand, in an extremely tough season. The bloke needs time. Unless he's being batsh!t crazy with selection, which he's not, i'm prepared to give him all the time he needs to get the playing group back where it needs to be. This isn't a matter of weeks. It's years. We won't see much improvement from a team of underdeveloped young players until next season or the one after next.

From what i can see and have heard, Nicks is a quality person. Is his football nous up to scratch? We won't know for a little while. Not until he's given 2-3 years to start making something of this team and the future selections we have.

There's 1 thing i can confidently guarantee, not even Clarko would get a win out of our current playing list in its current state......

I'd love to see another angle of our coaching box. I'm guessing

Davis has some real x-factor and ability. Whether he can harness that often enough is his big issue. It looks unlikely at this stage, but he has had two opportunities only to see if his game translates to the AFL arena - and one of them was a thrashing against Geelong at Geelong. He needs to be given a chance.
Imagine having McAdam, Stengle & Davis in the forward line... we would actually have some excitement & also pressure.

I disagree. Footy nous shows from day one, even in a shitty side.

Whilst we had a rough return, the first few weeks showed that at least we had some idea of what was required. Not so much in structure, but with the forward planning. As the season has continued, that focus has diminished. To the point that I think last week says it all with Nicks. He selected the oldest side and with players who should have had their card stamped 3-5 times over in a must-win game (Gibbs, Knight, Hartigan, Himmelberg as well as probably Kelly, Atkins and even Matt Crouch who has been beyond terrible this year). He simply doesn't have the focus and long term planning side in him to ride out bad periods that you need to have in a good head coach. Instead, he threw the baby out with the bathwater and in what is one of our most winnable games, we got done by 10 goals.

Don't get me wrong, I fully agree Clarko would be struggling with us. He's struggling with the Hawks now, and we're a step below them. However, I do not doubt that Clarko would understand that you do not even consider a large portion of our senior players for selection, let alone trust them, if you have any desire of having a job in 2-3 years. After all, this is the group that mutinied to get rid of the last coach, and whilst I agree that was necessary, to get to that point indicates there is some irreparable damage on the senior group. Some are capable of putting that aside, others are not.
