Agree there, I think our best balance is two KPDs and two interceptors. I really rate Lachie Young and think he'll be very good in one of the interceptor roles, will probably be best 22 when Wood retires.
Lewis Young is still raw as hell and has development left in him.

My concern about Le Young is his athleticism. Certainly as a defender he's not Hamling like with closing speed, nor is he really strong bodied.

In terms of athleticism he's not to disimilar to Schache (except more assertive in aerial situations). Thats my concern.

Quite a few of the comments about Gardner from the Adelaide game were that he wasn't that bad, or he didn't stuff up or he was a bit better than previous. For me, this is clutching at straws and sets a very low benchmark for being selected. He got through the Adelaide game doing very little because, frankly, there wasn't much to do at all. I fear that when he's pitted against anybody of any class he will be shown up once again as not up to the required standard. The vibes are that he will play again this week and therefore we had better be prepared for some 'close your eyes' moments.

Lewis Young is definitely heading elsewhere after not getting a game ahead of Gardiner last Sunday.

It's the standard narrative here when we don't like MC selections. I'm amazed we have anybody left on our list, actually.

Providing we are confident we can at least half the midfield, I’d like to go with this line up. A lot might depend on if Gawn actually plays
If Gawn plays, that's fine. I think the bigger issue will be if Gawn AND Preuss both play. That is when i'd absolutely want Gardner left in or Trengove for that matter.

I was one of those people. I am in no way saying he was good. The point I tried to make was that we all know Gardner is going to be gifted games for the forseeable future, so the fact he played his best game yet (despite the very low bar) is at least promising. He hardly had any strong opponents, but at least he's shown some sort of improvement and did some things he hasn't shown in previous games. Gardner is looking like a semi-permanent fixture, so the best we can hope for is that he doesn't actively harm our chances in the meantime

I am not a fan, but he might get better with a run of games that it seems he is going to get.

I'm hoping that the officially clanger-free Adelaide game will boost his self-confidence and that will lead to further improvement.

Go with "Gardy" and he becomes so good that the famed "Bulldogs Tragic" will be writing articles of his greatness. ;)

Gardner was bad. Was just lucky it didn’t hurt us because Adelaide are rubbish. He was bad though. He is so so poor in the contest, he’s possibly the slowest player on the list, his foot skills and decision making is a disaster. The way he goes up in the contest actually makes me ill to watch.

Lipinski is the slowest player on our list and it's not even close

What I'd like to see:
Out- Lloyd, RSmith, Gardner, West
In- Crozier, JJ, Vandermeer, Bruce

I'd back in our run against the Dees. Although outsized, I can't see Wood doing any worse than Gardner against the the out of form Tom McD, so I'd just play small down there and back in our midfield pressure to allow Crozier, etc to 3rd man up. Keath takes Weiderman and the rest of their dangerous forwards are more smalls/mediums.
I like Bruce coming in to chop out in the ruck if we continue playing English up forward for larger periods of time.

Backs: Crozier, JJ, Keath, Wood, Daniel, Williams, Richards
Mids: English, Libba, Bont, Smith, Macrae, Hunter, Lipinski, Dunkley
Forwards: Bruce, Naughton, Wallis, Cavarra, VDM, McLean, Dale

I wouldn't be surprised to see Lloyd and Gardner keep their spots though.

Spot on

What other position can we play JJ? I really rated Richards' game on half back last week. Can JJ play as an outside mid at all? I don't even know.

I know it's not his preferred position, but I'd ask him to play forward again. We need some forward line pressure and speed.

Richards imo can only play as a defender, it's his natural role.

We play our best when we have several forwards who can harass and chase. I want to go back to the 2016 formula.

Am I the only one that thought Gardner wasn't bad last game?
I get that had a poor first showing and is now the team designated whipping boy. We just have to play two tall defenders each week. Have to.

He wasn't as bad, and he was playing against Adelaide. Was he good?

Out - roarke
In - JJ

Out - Gardner
In - crozier

Out - Lloyd
In - vandermeer

I’m leaving Bruce out and going small at both ends. Wood, crozier and Williams are strong enough in the air to compete with mcdonald and weideman.

FB: Williams Keath crozier
HB: Richards Wood Daniel
C: JJ macrae Hunter
HF: McLean Bonti Vandermeer
FF: Cavarra Naughton West
R: English Smith Libba

IC: Dunkley, Wallis, dale, lipinski
