Western Bulldogs midfielder Tom Liberatore has undergone surgery to his ankle, following the Club’s match against Geelong on Friday night.

Liberatore sustained a syndesmosis injury to his left ankle in a tackling contest in the second quarter of the match.

Subsequent scans revealed ligament damage, with surgery required to stabilise Liberatore's ankle.

“He’s come through [the surgery] really well so our plan is to get him up and running from a rehab perspective as quick as possible," Western Bulldogs Bulldogs General Manager Football, Graham Lowe said on Monday.

“We need to manage it the right way but we’re optimistic that Tom can play a key part for us towards the end of the season.”

Fellow midfielder Jackson Macrae sustained an upper hamstring injury during the match but Lowe is optimistic about the timeline of Macrae’s recovery.

“It has got some tendon involvement which means it will take that bit longer but Jack will commence rehab in the coming days and we’re optimistic he’ll have a role to play toward the end of the season.”

In further encouraging news, the Dogs could welcome back Dale Morris, Matthew Boyd and Matthew Suckling for Saturday night’s clash with North Melbourne.

Defender Morris has progressed well through the weekends’ training, while Boyd and Suckling will also be given an opportunity to prove their fitness after missing Friday night’s match with their respective achilles concerns.

“They’ve both come in today and they’ve both trained over the weekend, so we’ll assess them through this week of training with a view to being available for selection this weekend," Lowe said.

The news isn’t as good for first-year defender Kieran Collins who injured his shoulder playing for Footscray at the weekend.

Collins will go in for scans on Monday to assess the injury.

Meanwhile Bailey Williams has continued to experience low level symptoms that have failed to respond to the conservative management plan for his knee injury.

“We’ve decided that he will require and arthroscopic investigation which he’ll have today to assist in his ongoing symptoms,” Lowe told BulldogsTV.

“We’re hoping that his return to play timeline will be quite short and he is planning to resume running next week.”

Minson will come in IMO. Roughy will get rested this week
That's not too bad a result, Minson is the only player on the list who can ruck for an entire game. Can leave Toyd at FF :)

It's like one of those improbable horror plots - the moment you think someone has escaped with their life there is another casualty!

And yet we cling to the thinnest thread of hope for a season of such high promise. Whilst, the barest chance remains that our fortunes may change we must believe. For if each obstacle is overcome and somehow we can assemble something approaching our best personnel, who can doubt what may still be.

It is from adversity that heroism is forged, tempered and hardened like steel.

Let's give them hell

yeh north really only have one thing over us this week, and that's the back in form goldy tapping it down at his feet to 3 big ass bodies in Swallow, Cunners and Ziebell. So we definitely need to try a few things, one of which being putting Jakey around the ball.

Once they have the ball they will work it slowly for an organized high ball into their 50 to one of their (crap) tall forwards. It will annoy us and stifle our rhythm, we'll want the ball pinging around. So expect a LOT of third man up to get the ball in motion and some risky kicks from our defence. JJ will be critical to chop things up and i'm stoked to see him working towards some form.

Having a tall target this time is a very good thing, Boyd's hands will be full bringing the ball to ground against a team that's extremely good at communicating and peeling off

also would LOVE to see Moyd if fit play some time on the ball. Mentioned before with Libba out we need someone with that special inside coordination for the moment, we've almost never pulled this card under Bev but it's worth a thought. A North without Waite will be more toothless than earlier in the year

This is what I'd do, put Boyd in the middle for a lot of the game. We have enough cover down back with Suckling, Biggs, Wood and JJ (maybe even an Adock or Webb as well). That are Stringer spends much more time there, either way I think we need more contested grunt in the middle this week.

I think Suckling is the one we want to push into the midfield to cover for Macrae.

Agreed. I think he could deliver it into 50 better than most (not saying Macrae is bad)

It suits Suckers skillset better than a defence. They guy needs space to play his best footy. Obviously can be a real liability under pressure.

Biggs, Boyd and JJ should be enough smalls in defence. I liked Cordys game and with Morris back we should be able to drop Adcock.

honestly these are three huge inside mids. i think boyd has a better chance of shifting in there to quell them than one of our more outside players
