VDM is not an afl player, gives up to many frees and gets caught with the ball a lot. Imagine doing that in the backline. Cleary clearly deserves his chance, didn't look out of place in the games he has played. We need to get rid of all the dead wood at the end of the year, that is all the players who have been at the club for a number of years who can't crack a game. They either aren't afl players or bevo just won't play them. If it is the latter why are they on the list?

Out: Richards, JOD, Gardner
In: Cleary, Bruce, Crozier

Stack the backline. TOB despite his deficiences can at this stage play the swingman role better than JOD.

Baker back to help as the defensive running winger

OUT: A.Jones; JOD; McNeil. They have had a decent 'blooding' at AFL level. They need to go back to the VFL to develop further.
IN: West; McLean; Poulter.

Also, Cleary to replace the injured Richards (if this doesn't happen there is no selection integrity in the Joint).

Feels like the forward line could use Bruce for a while. Old head that knows how to play the position and kicks the gettable goals. Could steady the rest of them.

Not sure I love the thought of Naughton, Lobb, JUH and Bruce all down there for defensive reasons, though he’d just be replacing O’Donnell who’s a 20 year old tall defender plonked in the forward line that only has 1 tackle in 4 games.

McNeil needs to go back to vfl to get game time, poor bloke hasn't really played for weeks, he wouldn't of even needed a shower after all these sub games.

The system is broken not the players. It doesn't hugely matter how we shuffle those magnets. There's no player in the VFL ready to save it, but I'm all for some fresh faces to add colour & vitality.

In: Anyone who gives a s*** about actually converting in front of goal. A competent forward structure. Somebody that can actually help English clear the ball.

Out: Four blokes flying for the ball and it falling over the back for an easy goal, under 12 like midfield turnovers through inept kicking, switches off half back that are never on, anyone who cannot convert in front of goal or kick at even a basic standard.

100% right

I'm surprised so many are calling for Keath's inclusion. He's been bloody atrocious this year.

The KPD cupboard is quite bare at the minute if he's the best option.
He really hasn't.
He's been serviceable and pretty sound defensively.
His biggest issue has been his brain fades with the ball. But even that isn't to the level of O'Brien and Gardner.

Disagree, as Mike said he’s had some brain fades and bad turnovers with ball in hand. He’s obviously a shadow of himself but I’m willing to cut him some slack as he actually has some what of an attacking mentality with the ball and takes the game on a bit. I can handle that when the alternative is a bunch of campaigners who can’t hit a 15m sideways target.

Defensively though Keath is on another planet to Gardner, mainly through positioning. They can’t even be compared currently, Gardner has zero game sense, there’s a reason Keath was apart of a pretty successful back 6 in the first half of this year and he never should have been dropped.

Gardner has been horrible every single week, like genuinely worst defender in the league shit this year. I know he’s capable of better performances but right now Keath is miles ahead, even if he is no where near his best

This 200%.

In: West, Bruce, Cleary

Out: Richards, Lobb, Gardiner

Move Baz to half back. Cleary plays the 7th def role. Move JOD to play Gards role with Bruce playing the 3rd tall fwd role. (F**k the 4 key fwds right off)

Spread Baz’s midfield minutes across Bont, Macrae, Treloar, Lib and Daniel. West can chop out, but spend most minutes in a small fwd pressure role.

3 small fwds in Arty, West and Weightman.
3 talls in Naughts, Marra, Bruce. Good balance.

No issue with English rucking more minutes. Lobb gives us **** all anyway. Bruce couldn’t do any worse for 5-6 ruck contests.

I preface this by saying that I don't think our mids have done our defenders any favours the past two weeks. I also don't think any of our KPDs are in particularly great form; and finally, the past two weeks have been anomalies in KPFs getting on top of us (i.e. I don't actually think the problem is defending talls).

... but with all of that said, Gardner has got to go. I am not going to dispute his attributes/capabilities, because it's been done on here many, many times, but he is so desperately low on form right now. When he is low on confidence, everything is effortful. You can see him thinking through every step. And that's what's happening right now. His rotations have been abysmal, his positioning consistently far too aggressive, his ball use and decision making shocking. He just can't be persisted with in this kind of form.

I have been critical of both Keath and Bruce this season but neither have been this bad this season.

Do we need some changes to personnel and tweaks to structure? Absolutely.

London to a brick it won't be what most are calling for.

Gardner and TOB have been poor. I can't see Bevo omitting both, but if he does, the options to replace them are surely not both of Keath and Bruce. Can JOD play the TOB role?
Jones, Keath, JOD, plus Duryea, Cleary and Dale, and Daniel as the 7th defender?
Or replace Keath with Bruce?
I don't think we cab go with all of Jones, Keath and Bruce in defence, can we, omitting Gardner, TOB and JOD (or JOD remains a "utility")?
