They say after the bye

That's odd. According to the news at least, he was supposed to be considered for today's game, but didn't get through the final training session (or something like that).

Honestly, I'm just confused why we aren't playing him, even if he is injured. HickGod on one ankle is still far more effective than Vardy on 2.

Vardy holds his own against the non elite rucks, last week, this week he would have broke even or won the battle.

Swans next week with Sinclair he will compete.

I really like Darling taking the throw ins up forward. Makes things happen.

And the Hickster will actually win the ruck battle. Let's not forget, before he got injured, the Hickster was performing vastly superior to Vardy, and preferred as the sole ruck over him.

doubt it! completely different players. keep seeing this suggested.who would play on the quick small forwards?
They're not "completely different players".

Liam Duggan and Josh Kennedy are completely different players.

Cole and Rotham are both small/medium defenders whose value to the team relies on their closing speed, defensive positioning, contested play at ground level, clean disposal and decision-making.

Strange to see a certain someone missing from the changes thread to date, am most interested to see what their “thoughts” are after today’s events... :p

Rotham for Hurn is the only change at this stage? Would not risk Hurn the week before the bye. I don’t think we need to change too much structurally wise for the trip to Sydney.

Who takes Sam Reid? McGovern?

Has to be although Sheppard has played on taller forwards in the past and done well

Rotham becomes an option as well if Hurns hammy doesn’t come up

JoRo should be an option even if Hurn is fit.

Sydney have a tall forwardline. They've got Franklin and Reid. But also McCartin and Blakey. All 194cm or taller.

If we like McGovern being able to zone off and pick off high balls, this is a game to consider an extra tall defender.

Rotham is 192cm around 86kgs Cole is 185cm and around 80kgs. I think there's some merit in the idea that purely based on their body types they arent like for like.

Play Allen down back and either bring in Rotham or Brander to take another Sydney tall forward.

Would.prefer Rotham due to skills/run.
