Lock it in and close the thread.Ideal trade/draft period imo
Pass on Jackson: Not worth spending our draft capital on one player, the list is in dire need of lots of young talent.
Pass on Meek: Awkward trade value, don't think he can play with NN, can't see him being happy as a back up.
Trade Rioli for a 2nd rounder: Blessing in disguise to be honest
Trade the Rioli pick or pick 26 for Jeremy Sharp: Sharp would address one our biggest weaknesses, pace and run. Represents opportunistic value as well not being regular best 22 at Gold Coast.
Draft
2: Wardlaw - Warlord
20: Hustwaite - Midfielder/Halfback looks to have very good skills and a good decision maker
26: Harry Barnett - Mobile ruckman, good skills. Size is a concern hopefully he develops good forward craft as well.
38: Sam Gilbey - Hopefully he slides due to injury.
Potential Rookie picks:
Harry Cole, Jordyn Baker (NGA) Dewar (NGA)
Potential PSD
Tyler Brockman - out of contract, his first year was impressive.
Potentially 8-9 players in. I'd be more than happy to see 8 or 9 of our current players go if possible.
I thought Amiss was a reach even there. Quality kick on goal aside, only showed deep 50 ability. Abit like the opposite of Cadman whose a better CHF.My take on Cadman is that he is not dissimilar to Amiss. Not white the dick deadeye but gets a bit more of it up higher.
Not your clunking KPF - more your lead up KPF.
I'd say that if Amiss was in this year's draft, he and Cadman would go at a similar level. This somewhat demonstrated my comments about the lack of pointy end stars. Jye was taken at 8 and there were 4 stand outs at the front of the draft - Cadman only has 1 stand out at the front of the draft and likely to go 2 to 5.

Amiss doesnt have as rounded of a game as others, yet his 1 trick is better.
AsterixTheGaul Where do you see Allen as thriving post darling? I think a combination of Allen/Cadman/B.Williams could be pretty great yet all are lead/jump fwds that need space rather than being a physical wrestler for the bailout long kick.

Id take missed shots over no shotsCadman and Bailey Williams in the side. Do we want to be the least efficient kicks for goal in the league?
really, that good?
I've got to agree, I much more in the Cadman camp over Amiss.I thought Amiss was a reach even there. Quality kick on goal aside, only showed deep 50 ability. Abit like the opposite of Cadman whose a better CHF.

We have 2,20,26,27*,38 assuming a favourable Rioli trade
What pushes our picks back?
Ashcroft bid at 1
Davey Jnr bid late teens
Priority pick for the street urchins end of round 1
Fletcher bid say early 20’s
Amon compo 2nd round pick which I’ve * above as 27
McStay compo 2nd round (or possibly end of 1st round depending on what Collingwood are offering)
I’m also going to assume that Brisbane will need to hold at least one early 20’s pick to match the Ashcroft bid as well as one in the 30’s
That would put our picks at
3,23,29,30,42
So my proposed Essendon trade would become something like 3 and 42 for 5 and 26
Gives us 5,23,26,29,30
If I am the Pieman:Monocle
AsterixTheGaul
Eastcoasteagle
Humour me if you will. Assuming the above happens what could we do with those picks - 5,23,26,29,30

Just for reference, I'd take Monocle's selections over mine if they were all there at those picks!!! That would be an absolute dream draft hand, wet dream sort of stuff. Can only pray that these guys fall through, when I did my selections I had Hotton, Hustwaite and Szybowski all gone by our second pick otherwise I'd take one. I think Clarke is now knocking on the door of the first round, he's had a huge finals series and probably BOG in both.Pick 05 . Phillipou
View attachment 1508836
He is my preferred option with our first pick as I believe he has a very high ceiling, we didn't get to see his best at the Championships as after the first game he was not 100% fit. I have seen some of his Woodville West Torrens games and I am a fan. Really reminds me of Fyfe.
Pick 23. Hotton - Szybowski - Hustwaite.
I suspect that Hotten comes off the board somewhere in the 15-20 range, but him being available at 23 is not out of the question.
Very clean hands and good goal sense, he is a midfielder first and a smaller forward second.
Dangerous within 40 meters of goals, as he is an opportunist that reads the ball of hands well.
View attachment 1508837
Szybowski a very good chance to still be there as I have said before he is Jye Clark light, will be a good B - B+ midfielder.
View attachment 1508878
Hustwaite tall midfielder 194 cm, good mover in traffic and makes very good decisions, has great hands and a more than adequate left foot on him.
Can play as a defender with the agility and ground game to play on both tall's and smalls.

Pick 26. Which ever of Hotton - Szybowski - Hustwaite is not taken - if all gone then J Ryan.
Jakob Ryan is a very poised and clever attacking HBF that can both blanket and nullify as well as run and carry.
He has been playing seniors for Glenelg and has acquitted himself well at the highest level in SA.
Is particularly strong in one on one situations, he rarely is beaten.

Pick 29. Clarke
A tough hard at it forward mid, probably got starved of some midfield time at the Dragons as he was one of a group of quality midfield options for them - namely: Ashcroft, Sheezel, Hotton, Mackenzie.
Regularly hits the scoreboard and racks up the possessions, has a touch of cunning about his game.
Been a real riser as the season has progressed.

If we had previously taken Phillipou - Hotton - Szybowski ..... then I would take an attacking run and carry HBF with this pick. Very unlikely to still be available but Jakob Ryan would be preferred first choice.
Then it would be a toss up between the WA pair:
Sam Gilbey... not sure of the status of his broken leg but assuming it's not an issue.
View attachment 1508841 ... Clarke laying a tackle on Gilbey. View attachment 1508845
Kaleb Smith a late riser after missing game early in the season he has come home with a wet sail and captured the recruiters attention.
Super quick love to take the game on with his run and carry doesn't mind a bounce or three or four as he weaves around opposition.

Pick 30. Barnett
View attachment 1508844
Barnett is a tall 202 ruck prospect that is very good overhead and has sticky fingers.
He IMO has scope to be a KPP and reads the ball in flight as we as any tall in this years cohort.
There it is Keys .
Those are my thought as of today.
There are still two very important games to yet be played, that I want to pour over to get a better final picture.
1. Vic Country v Vic Metro
1. The grand final - Dandenong Stingrays v Sandringham Dragons.
Pick 05 . Phillipou

Ohh a nice haul indeed...
Pick 5 - I'm taking one of Cadman or Phillipou, probably prefer Phillipou as I think we need mids.
That bevvy of second round picks, I feel we would be at the awkward end of this draft pool with some of those second round picks 29 and 30. Looking at my list, I feel the first 25 is where it's at to get a good player.
Options are limited this year to trade up, especially if Dunkley goes to the Lions as you imagine the first rounder is gone.
If the Dunkley trade does go through this year, I'd offer 29 and 30 to the Lions for their first round pick next year as I can't see how they'll have points to get Jaspa Flectcher and Ashcroft this year. I also highly rate next years draft.
Pick 23 - If Keeler is there, pick is locked in very quickly. I feel like he won't be though, so I'll take Charlie Clarke from Sandy Dragons. Small forward who is rising quickly, can push high up the ground and use his speed to break the lines and get quick inside 50s, inside 50 he's really dangerous and can kick them from anywhere and sets up team mates.
Pick 26 - Adam D'Aliola, captain of SA. Elite for ground ball gets and hands out of traffic. Can get a game back on your terms through work rate.
Subject to lions taking our trade.
Pick 29 - Harry Barnett, mobile ruckman who can take a contested grab.
Pick 30 - Josh Weddle, mid sized defender. I picked him over Gilbey (injured), Cowan, Hempel as I think he has the best overall game. Really good at defending one on one, and really good rebound defender - bit of a Tom Stewart lite.
These selections has a bit of a SA feel to it, this wasn't deliberate but a bonus: Phillipou, D'Aliola and Barnett. The other two are Vic Metro. No WA!!!
Convoluted Daydream scenario.
We trade pick 2, 20 and a future 3rd (Would be reluctant to give up a future 2nd but may need to, for points for GC next draft and their acadamy players)
For 5 (adelaides pick for Rankine) & 7
We go to the draft with 5,7,26, 27(Rioli trade), 38
Draft goes Ashcroft (BL), Sheezle (NM), Tsatas (GC), Cadman (GWS), Phillipou (ES)
Then Eagles get Wardlaw (6), Humphrey (8), Barnett (26), Jones (27), Gilbee (38)
Gives us an injection of youth and talent accross the ground. Goldcoast get their explosive run and carry player plus points for next season.
We still get the player we (I) want in a sliding Wardlaw plus another top 10, x factor talent in Humphrey.
.............. I can dream lol
Love the player, worry that size, lack of special speed/agility, and lack of kicking penetration might let him down at the next level (Adam Carter similarities?). Can he develop like a Caleb Daniel? There is perhaps potential. How are we feeling about Jed Hagan at this point? I think he is really underrated but all talk of Hagan has completely dried up. Should we be interested in him and if so at what point? For me we should start to consider him at 26 depending on who else is still on the board and take him if he makes it through to 38.
Might be worth watching as some of the names floated are playing today
