That report on Wardlaw is pretty positive. No long history of soft tissue injuries and the injuries themselves, at least to him, didn’t feel significant. Obviously the MRIs will be the best indicator but I’m much more positive about Wardlaw again based on the report. If the MRIs don’t show a significant injury then I think we should draft him. But since we’re deep in a 3 way trade conversation I suspect we’ve probably largely discounted him already.

Trades withstanding, I would be flabbergasted if Norf didn’t select Cadman. He’s exactly what they need. They’ve been screaming out for this type since they let big boy Ben go for sweet **** all. Surely they remember past mistakes and don’t make those same mistakes again. They’re set for young mids. They’ve obviously got their starting crew but they’ve also got Phillips and powell on the side. I just can’t see why they would select Wardlaw even if they lose JHF

"Wardlaw is matter-of-fact about his injury run, and could have played in the final Vic Metro game against Vic Country in Grand Final week but opted to take a cautious approach about four weeks after his most recent strain. Even that was not a significant tear, allaying questions on his durability."

Jesus, this already sounds like a West Coast Eagles medical report........:flushed::tearsofjoy:

This is why pick 2 would be very valuable to North and why we should absolutely be looking to get a premium should we trade it

With picks 1 and 2 they can take Wardlaw and Cadman rather than having to choose

Edit : Not to mention that either of those two players would be a pretty good fit for us as well

Agreed, they would be crazy not to.

People forget Phillips, he's pretty much Wardlaw.

Yes. It’s a dirty deal atm, I don’t no why we are even considering it.

We are trading in a premium pick for minimum, uncertain compensation and throwing in Rioli for good measure i.e. for nothing. Why are we even thinking about this?

PA traded in the suitable pick for Rioli for three lower ones. Our response should be - ’provide a player of suitable worth for Rioli, weighted towards us, because we are bring dudded on the pick 2 deal, or gtfo.’

We will probably get better offers for #2, or otherwise we get a very good player. PA are acting like scum traders trying to get Rioli on a $600,000 pa deal for no trade capital outlay. They are getting him as a Robbie Gray replacement and want to pay nothing. The fact they are after Ratogolea also confirms this, Geelong won’t be giving him away. A large part of their recent success has been built on tough trading.

We should show some backbone and walk away. We have no obligation to any of these parties - PA, NM or Rioli.

According to Brad Sheppard we are looking to split pick 2 because we are keen on Reuben Ginbey...

I dont know anything about him but sounds like Eagles trying to be too clever for their own good again and looking past the obvious talent.
According to an ex-player who has nothing to do with drafting, has been away from the club for 12 months and coached Ginbey in school footy... I wouldn't be too worried about it.

Is there any chance we keep pick two up our sleeve until draft night then split it on the night depending on who North take? Or is that leaving it too late? Would love to pick up Cadman on the off chance North don't snap him up

A rather radical swap of picks with GWS - we focus on the second of the sweet spots in this year

Trade 2 and 26 for 12 15 and 18

It would leave GWS with 2, 3, 19, 26, 40 and 44 plus whatever they get for Hopper
Question as to whether GWS would do it. They get 2 picks at the pointy end. They likely list NGA with a pick in 40's for Rowson.

It leaves us with:
12 = Gibney or Hewett or Hollands
15 = Ginbey or Hewett or Hollands
18 = Keeler or Hayes
20 = Hotton
40 = Allen or Jones or Cleaver or Broadbent

We miss out on a single top end but get 3 in the what I see as a sweet spot of 10 - 20

Or do we just stick with
2 = Cadman or Wardlaw
20 = Hotton
26 = Burgiel or Weddle
40 = Allen or Jones or Cleaver or Broadbent

So it boils down
Option A - go top end
1 of Cadman or Wardle

Option B go quantity
3 of Hewett, Gibney, Hollands Keeler and Hayes

Worth discussing with GWS. Hell, they might even pay more than that.

I think this is actually the most likely scenario

If Ginbey is the guy we’re chasing I doubt WCE will be thrilled with Shep for announcing it publicly. Presumably Shep has connections to that footy team so he might have some reliable mail.
