If anyone sound know it's us, we had years with grundy doing that exact thingFremantle won the hitouts 69-16 against the Eagles, but could only manage to win the clearances by 39-35. We should take note of this.
I doubt our tactic will be to try to win the ruck contest. It will just be trying to win the midfield battle once Big O has tapped itAccording to Footywire:-
Clearances: Lions (1st), Pies (4th)
Centre Clearances: Pies (5th), Lions (8th)
I50: Pies (2nd), Lions (16th)
HO: Lions (4th), Pies (7th - not that this will last!)
Marks I50: Pies (6th), Lions (14th)
Intercepts: Pies (10th), Lions (13th)
Clangers: Pies (6th), Lions (8th)
Rebounds: Lions (4th), Pies 18th!
Strange stats. You can put down the clangers to our attacking style of play. And perhaps our Rebounds are worse due to the Port Game, they never had it there! Our MI50 are no doubt better due to our corridor work too.
What it does show is Lions are better at around the ground clearances. We'd be better off not contesting those ruck contests and instead dropping 1 player forward of the ball to prevent the ball getting knocked to advantage too easily.

Yep exactly. We should be used to having had a ruck man (BG) who tapped it to the opposition anywayThat's what Bucks said on "On the Couch" last night. Said it is as easy setting up to lose the tap as it is to win the tap. Think we may well see how beneficial Mitchell really is, in those circumstances.

I think NicNat and Paddy Ryder were on a whole next level in terms of tap work.Generally the best midfield win the clearance battle.
Ruckmen overrated at the tap outs.
Cox from West Coast is the best I've ever seen at this.
It's what the Ruckmen do around the ground which is more important.
Cox from WC dominated everything. Better than Nic Nat
Cox was better than them mate although these two were very good as well.I think NicNat and Paddy Ryder were on a whole next level in terms of tap work.
TBH, I never notice ruckwork that much, so you're probably right. Cox was a gun around the ground, but I never noticed his rukwork. I noticed the ruckwork with Ryder and NikNat - might have just been to do with them jumping so high.Cox was better than them mate although these two were very good as well.
Big Coxy also used to kick goals regularly.
Cox tap to Judd or Cousins was a regular thing. I guess it helped him having these two and guys like Embley.TBH, I never notice ruckwork that much, so you're probably right. On the clearances side of things, they are ranked no 1 but the stats are a bit skewed as they smashed Melbourne in the clearances Rd 2.According to Footywire:-

That's interesting that they smashed Dee's in the clearances....supposedly the best midfield. Two best ruckmen. (I know Gawn went down in that game). On the clearances side of things, they are ranked no 1 but the stats are a bit skewed as they smashed Melbourne in the clearances Rd 2.

Yeah when I was tallying everything up it looked as if 3 games is not a great sample size. After 10 rounds probably more truth to the numbers. On the clearances side of things, they are ranked no 1 but the stats are a bit skewed as they smashed Melbourne in the clearances Rd 2.

Given that neither Hipwood or Daniher are known for their inside 50 ground ball gets, having Frampton help ruck the D50 stoppages won't hurt.
Mihocek probably chops out in the F50 stoppages as well.
This. He always comes out looking like he wants to shed blood against the Pies. Always has the look of pure wrath in this fixture whereas the other 22 rounds of the year he dances his way around around the joint with a pair of clown shoes on and a top hat.
It's interesting how many commentators are now saying how much Lions forward line are missing McStay as the big bodied forward who would actually contest for the ball, crash packs, take a mark, was unselfish AND a good shot at goal..Hipwood is the lowest ranked player in the comp over the past 7 seasons to play at least 100 games.
He's soft as butter and can't kick to save himself.
Interesting stat was raised by Cornes on SEN - Hipwood has more years left on his contract than his average number of disposals per game played this yearHipwood is the lowest ranked player in the comp over the past 7 seasons to play at least 100 games.

I like Trey, He has a bit of mongrel and is quite a good rebound runner, he would get a game at most teams. If Noble or Q go down, he is an obvious replacement.Ruscoe doesn't play tall but he was one of the better VFL players last week. Moore surely has to play on Daniher if Frampton does the rucking. Whatever we do we'll be weakening our attack or defensive structure. Fortunately I have no distinct memories of Appleby in the AFL, just hazy recollections fed by derisive remarks in this forum regarding his worth as a player. Ruscoe is at least a better player than Appleby. I'd like to see more of Trey's mum - she was fun!

He was picked in the draft at around pick 28.
Which just goes to show the hidden gems available. 6 times All Australian.
I thought we had found our man in Grundy. He went from really good to average real quick.
Steene looks to be a chance for greatness. Still just a kid.
Ah yes.McRae loves a creative solution. Just swap the back 6 for the forward 6. Brisbane won't know what to do.
I took it as him just talking about KPD.
It might be as easy to set up, but it shouldn't be as effective, if Big O has the ability to choose between hitting it inside or outside the contest.
