Will Collin’s wasn’t plugging positional hole either haha. It was just a poor pick with poor talent identification.

There’s no point picking best available in the mid season draft. At talent levels this low it’s purely a lottery. Like I’ve said it’s like picking best available in the 40s in the normal draft. AFL clubs just don’t do that.

There is no evidence that clubs can accurately predict talent in the mid season drafts.

We are missing out on years of developing outside mids and half back flankers and adding to positions we have plenty of coverage.

Hutchinson mentioned in a radio interview his manager Scott Lucas told him he would be likely heading west.
We could be building a nice relationship with Lucas, he also manages Flynn and an interesting side note he manages Perryman too 👀

Yeah nah, **** Scott Lucas forever for Round 22 2007

Better than your predictions :)

Now that is a deep dive to find a wrong “prediction”. The post was made on the basis of a trade actually occurring, not me predicting one would.

Find it worrying when future lists are posted, as it highlights how critical the next 2 years are in terms of drafting and attracting FA's.

Currently have more gaps than Bianca Censori on that list in my view:

Elite (short of 3 at least)
V.Good
Better than Average in role
Solid
Playing tennis with Dylan Alcott
?

Hough Barrass Duggan
Maric
McGovern Ryan
Chesser Kelly Hutchingson
Brockman Allan Hewett
Long Waterman J Williams

Foll: Flynn, Reid, Ginbey

Bench: A Reid, Burgiel, 2024 1st, C Hall

Emerg: Culley, Barnett, Bazo, H Johnston, Ruscoe
Not only do I disagree with a lot of the assessments (Waterman, Hall, Ginbey, Duggan, Maric etc). I also disagree with the premise that you need 5 elite players to win a premiership, Collingwood last year had 3.

If its a total crapshoot, why melt about not drafting a defender who most likely, in your own words, won't make it anyway?

If (in the recruiters opinion) someone is clearly more talented than everyone else available, even at pick 40, i have no issue with picking them

(I haven't seen a second of any of these guys not playing WAFL but our recruiters clearly rated this guy the best talent available at our pick judging by the statement put out)

I think the upside is terrific this is basically his 1st season in the system on a AFL program at VFL level with the Pies ....And he’s improvement is not looking out of place talent wise in the VFL after coming from a rural country footy league ..

Signing Trew for another year seems like such a bizarre decision when he’s not getting rewarded for good form, should of just delisted him and had another pick in the national draft.
I honestly think he was signed for another year to make sure there was enough delistings this year

Im sort of suspecting it was a similar deal that Ruscoe is getting, Trew gets a spot on the rookie list with the main intention being that he is a solid WAFL player who can play inside mid every week, so teenagers dont have to do it. Would be getting paid better than he would if he was just on a WAFL list too

What an odd take, surely the talent pool being low increases the need for going best available.
That makes no sense. What do you think clubs do at pick 60 in the normal draft? They don’t take best available they pick based on needs.

Every analysis of draft picks done shows at low level picks it’s purely a lottery.

We missed out on making 2007 GF, and would’ve got done by 5 or 6 goals instead of the 20 goal thrashing handed to Port.
With no Cousins, Judd or Kerr (all out injured), we'd have gotten absolutely pantsed if we'd somehow made it through
Geelong '07 had an all-time season. They had 9 players in the final 22 of the AA team that year (a bit over the top tho!)
