Latest news and rumours:

  • List Manager Matt Clarke appeared on Gettable - Click spoiler below for summary
    On the draft: "We predicted that the draft was strong, but it's probably gotten stronger during the year."

    On top end of draft: "You could probably make five or six different choices and get it right."

    On Pick 3: "I reckon there's five (players) around that mark."

    On splitting: "I think you want to hold an early selection if you can. The depth of this group allows you to maybe have some movement there, and see what you can do to bring in more talent in the first 20-25 picks. Easier said than done, and I think most clubs would be saying the same thing. We'll see what we can do."

    On Liam Baker: "He's still yet to make a decision. They're still weighing up a few things. We'd love to get Liam on board from what he offers from a talent and leadership point of view. We understand where we're at as a group, we're rebuilding our group, we need to add some guys in the middle tier to support our young group."

    On Jack Graham: "We've got a number of players that we're speaking to. A bit of a wait and see on that one as well. We'll talk to a number of guys."

    On Shai Bolton: "I think it will be difficult for anybody, really. He's heavily contracted and a high quality player."

    On James Peatling: "He's heavily involved in a finals series at the moment so I don't want to comment too much on it, but I think there's a number of guys that have been playing really good footy this year that could suit what we do and what other clubs do. He's taken his footy to another level this year."

    On Tom Barrass: "We've had an early discussion with Hawthorn about it, they understand where we're at. He's nominated Hawthorn as his ideal destination. We want what we think he's worth, as a genuine key back in the competition that can do what he can do. We're obviously mindful of getting an appropriate deal for West Coast."

    On Tom Clurey: "Maybe (note: sounded very non enthused). We'd probably need some key back depth, whether that's through the draft or trade and free agency."

    On Jack Darling: "We've had initial discussions with his management group about (moving). We're open to talking, as we are with all of our players, but Jack's contracted with us."

    On Liam Ryan: "I expect him to be at West Coast next year, yes." (The most definitive answer of the day by a mile, a non-starter of a talking point.)

    On out of contact players e.g. Rotham, Witherden, Jones: "We're still working through what it looks like from a list point of view, and how many selections we'll want to have, and players that may come in and potentially may go out. You might want to give a coach an opportunity to look at these guys."

    On Harley Reid: "We've had discussions most of the year with his management group. I think it sits in a really good place. We're open to doing really whatever they want to do to be honest. We're really confident in building the right system around Harley, on and off field, to make sure that he's really comfortable, that he's going to play his best footy, and his long term future."

    On Jake Waterman's new deal: "Yep, really close. We're working really closely with his management on that. I expect that we'll have something done pretty soon."

    On Oscar Allen: "We've been talking with Oscar and his manager most of the year on that one. We're going through some stuff at the moment. I think we'll be ok with that one."

He was as still is in my top 5

Smillie and FOS have been disappointing in 2025 and are not a top 5 lock anymore while huge ??? on Langford’s athleticism

There will not be much consensus this year so Cal will struggle with his predictions
But lalor has big ??? on ability to play midfield. Top 5 for a medium forward ?

Hawks lose a prelim and the Saints get band 1 for Battle. Richmond get 6 for Rioli and 10 and 11 for Bolton. We overpay for Graham to generate pick 22 compo over pick 40.

WCE in: 10, 11, 16, HAWKS F1, Baker
WCE out: 3, F2, Barrass

Rich in: 3, HAWKS F2
Rich out: 10, 11, Baker

Hawks in: Barrass, WCE F2
Hawks out: 16, F1, F2

9am on day 1 of the trade period. Knock off early and pop in at Jesters on the way home.

I totally agree our pick 3 should go to Richmond for baker. But it must have 2 sweeteners Rioli & Bolton or no deal. Our club has done some dumb things in the past lets hope they have learnt from past mistakes.

Are there any loopholes in the trading space?

Could we be part of deals where clubs look to bring in talent but can't afford it?

Eg. Fremantle want Bolton but can't pay his salary. We play third party and pick up his salary in exchange for picks.

Fre
Out 9, 10, 17
In Bolton(-600K salary PA), 59

Rich
Out Bolton
In 9, 10

WCE
Out 59 (600k salary PA)
In 17

Pick purchasing before pick purchasing?

Would the player have to sign with us first and then be ontraded?

I value our current 2nd round pick 23 on draft night to be around pick 28. At 28 it's sort of in the middle of nowhere and i think we can leverage it better (if peatling/baker cant be traded with first imo). If adelaide can land Cummings for nothing they'd prob be more than happy to take our pick 3 and give us their pick 25 to move up one spot assuming they are keen on draper.

Crows= 3
Wce= 4 + 25

Play hard ball and get Hawks 13 and f1 for Barass, and we agree to pay Tom's 3 remaining years out.

Hawks= Barass
WCE= 13 + Hawks f1

Instead of GC getting rioli they get Noble at a significantly lower price and still get the running half back flanker. 23 + 25 similar point index to pick 6 and we chuck in Hawks f1 which will be very appealing to GC. At pick 6 rioli is terribly overated, we can get them the same points plus the future first tied to Hawks.

GC get= 23(WCE) + 25(adelaide) + hawks f1
Wce get= pick 6

WCE= lose 3(draper) and Barass
WCE= goes to the draft with 4, 6, 13, 59

Add a couple more 4th rounders from petch or darling to bring in a kpb and malakai
I'd much much rather keep 23 ± 25 and hawks F1
And forgo 6

MWT had a couple of Eagle talking points.
Jayz put forward the
Hawks 13* and F1
For
TB and F2.

All seemed to agree this is where it will go.

Jack Darling at least 2 year deal on the table from the Roos. F4 mentioned if we don’t chip in, pick in the 30s if we do (way too much m). JayZ questioned why the Roos would even go down this path. He then went all Vic Journo nuffie and Said if he can’t get a game at the Eagles (missed like 1 game) why would he get a game at the Roos. Well because our key position are so much better than theirs.

Can Macrae play gimp wing?

I’d take him on for a first round pick salary dump like the BODEs got with Bowes.

We need to play the salary floor, he can help out the youngsters and get another talented youngster in the draft.

No way I’d pay a pick out of our own pocket though.

30 already hmmmmm. Don't think he fits the demographic we be looking at

It would surprise all here no end that Gerard Healy and actually the corne think McRae is the sort of bloke we should be going after.. it wouldn’t be a bad idea if it shoved Kelly to half forward but we aren’t in the race apparently

Mcrae is a plodder now. What's the point of moving on from gaff and bringing in him.

Unless we get a salary dump high pick (it doesn't seem this is the noise) it's a hard no.

Who or what is MWT?
MWT typically refers to Mean Waiting Time, which is a metric used in various industries to measure the average time a person or process waits before receiving service or action. It's commonly used in customer service, network analysis, and healthcare to assess efficiency.

For example:

  • In customer service, MWT would represent the average time a customer waits before getting a response from a representative.
  • In networking or computing, it might refer to the average time a data packet waits before being processed or transmitted.
  • In healthcare, MWT might measure the average time patients wait for treatment or consultation.

Jay also was the one who put forward to the panel a couple of months ago #3 then questioned "Is that too much?" while the other 2 looked at him like he was a complete idiot.
