Latest news and rumours:

  • Zane Trew, Jamaine Jones and Jordyn Baker delisted

  • List Manager Matt Clarke appeared on Sept 11 Gettable - Click spoiler below for summary
On the draft: "We predicted that the draft was strong, but it's probably gotten stronger during the year."

On top end of draft: "You could probably make five or six different choices and get it right."

On Pick 3: "I reckon there's five (players) around that mark."

On splitting: "I think you want to hold an early selection if you can. The depth of this group allows you to maybe have some movement there, and see what you can do to bring in more talent in the first 20-25 picks. Easier said than done, and I think most clubs would be saying the same thing. We'll see what we can do."

On Liam Baker: "He's still yet to make a decision. They're still weighing up a few things. We'd love to get Liam on board from what he offers from a talent and leadership point of view. We understand where we're at as a group, we're rebuilding our group, we need to add some guys in the middle tier to support our young group."

On Jack Graham: "We've got a number of players that we're speaking to. A bit of a wait and see on that one as well. We'll talk to a number of guys."

On Shai Bolton: "I think it will be difficult for anybody, really. He's heavily contracted and a high quality player."

On James Peatling: "He's heavily involved in a finals series at the moment so I don't want to comment too much on it, but I think there's a number of guys that have been playing really good footy this year that could suit what we do and what other clubs do. He's taken his footy to another level this year."

On Tom Barrass: "We've had an early discussion with Hawthorn about it, they understand where we're at. He's nominated Hawthorn as his ideal destination. We want what we think he's worth, as a genuine key back in the competition that can do what he can do. We're obviously mindful of getting an appropriate deal for West Coast."

On Tom Clurey: "Maybe (note: sounded very non enthused). We'd probably need some key back depth, whether that's through the draft or trade and free agency."

On Jack Darling: "We've had initial discussions with his management group about (moving). We're open to talking, as we are with all of our players, but Jack's contracted with us."

On Liam Ryan: "I expect him to be at West Coast next year, yes." (The most definitive answer of the day by a mile, a non-starter of a talking point.)

On out of contact players e.g. Rotham, Witherden, Jones: "We're still working through what it looks like from a list point of view, and how many selections we'll want to have, and players that may come in and potentially may go out. You might want to give a coach an opportunity to look at these guys."

On Harley Reid: "We've had discussions most of the year with his management group. I think it sits in a really good place. We're open to doing really whatever they want to do to be honest. We're really confident in building the right system around Harley, on and off field, to make sure that he's really comfortable, that he's going to play his best footy, and his long term future."

On Jake Waterman's new deal: "Yep, really close. We're working really closely with his management on that. I expect that we'll have something done pretty soon."

On Oscar Allen: "We've been talking with Oscar and his manager most of the year on that one. We're going through some stuff at the moment. I think we'll be ok with that one."

Cal keeps saying it’s hard for inside mids to move in the trade period. Be interesting to see how we took the news last year with the last minute change of heart.
Slower big body inside mids are just not that valuable unless they're elite, theyre not hard to find, but clubs who have a decent one still want decent value. Hard to move when they're in that weird spot imo

Sadly if we are handing over a first rounder for an ooc player who has nominated us in a two team state we're going to have to seriously look at trading 3 to get some more picks in the first round.
The flow on effect is what hurts. Jumping through hoops just to land a small 27 year old utility is madness.

Our draft hand will be fine if Barrass nets us 14 + 30 or F2.

Not against trading pick 3, although I’m a lot keener on something like 3+14 for 7+8, but doing it because we need to restock after getting Baker will be a kick in the balls.

Smart by Mitch to include Baker as the photo. Don't think there's a suggestion that pick 3, is involved in the Baker trade.

It's posts like THAT from Mitch that are the real reason behind Greenland and Antartica's melting ice caps.

Brisbanes list manager on trade radio saying Dev Robertson has advised he wants to explore what’s around for him with a view to trade. No club as yet and the lions would be open to a trade.

Dev isn't slow. He just doesn't have elite skills.

Sounds like a cheap trade then.

The interest might not be there specially if Graham gets signed. They put a lot of work in him last year and changed his mind in the last minute and apparently the club wasn’t too happy.

Final predictions as get rolling:

Darling for a disappointingly late pick that will disappear into the tail end of a pick swap/thrown into a more complex deal.

Baker and a pick in the 30s for 14.

Jack Graham takes the 4 years on the table.

Barrass for 14 and F2

Clurey for something late.

No Garcia (stays at Dogs) or Robertson (goes to some pointless Vic club).

We retain 3 (4) for now…
Similar to what I was thinking this morning.

We keep Pick 3 and use it for Finn O'Sullivan (who has implied he wants to come here and play with his mate Reid - also increases chances they both stay in three years).

Pick 14 for Baker & Pick 42.

Pick 26 for best available (maybe Garcia?)

Pack 42 for Robertson/Clurey/

Whatever is left for Champion.

IN: Finn O'Sullivan, Liam Baker, Jack Graham, Best Available, Robertson/Clurey, Malachy Champion.
OUT: Despair

Geelong's entitlement is so strong. They consistently expect to be on the winning end of deals, they should front up 2x first round picks minimum for Smith.

God help us if Harley ever nominates that bunch of @#*&.

You get physically crook watching the double standards at play during trade period when Geelong are concerned.

We have been waiting for equalisation for how long?

And all we are seeing is grand final teams being provided leg ups through dodgy policies to grow TV rights deals

The Vics all see WA as whingers anyway. So what exactly is the downside of holding the AFL accountable to their dubious policies and actions?

The softly softly approach has got us what exactly? SFA. And for years I supported the behind closed doors softly softly approach.

It has got us nothing while other clubs playing in back to back grand finals and now priemiers are about to land access to a 2nd #1 pick quality father son with a another AFL discount. PLUS discounted academy access. And every year seems to land free agents. Triple dipping into the AFL allowed priority access. Whilst bottom clubs access nothing but their picks get downgraded as the AFL policies are assisting other "more needy clubs?" Just WTF is going on AFL?
Time for a break away league. Stuff the vics

And Peatling wasn't even considering the Crows.......until they turned his head.
Great.

I'm sure we could turn Garcia's head with a $900k offer also.

Do you think that's an appropriate offer for a fringe player struggling to get a game?
