On the face of it this trade looks insane. But I want to wait until the Barrass trade and see what happens on field 25 to see if this has been the total disaster it appears. Trusting the process etc. Doesn't look great right now.

The Vic media gaslighting is a beauty when talking the trade from WCE perspective.

"It's a deep draft"

"WCE will get a great talent at 12"

"Such even talent it was a good move"

Then, they switch to Carlton

"Next up, let's discuss the elite top end talent Carlton has just traded access to............"

Upside is our trading our future with Carlton, thus preventing Freo from winning a premiership .......... which must have been the plan and if so, we are awesome bastards!!!!

Given the current fallout, I expect them to try and play hardball. Surely the board must be asking for a please explain
Would be nice if true but honestly don't think they have it in them.
Just can't fathom how Baker gets Richmond and Carlton brilliant deals while not thinking about what it's doing to the club he wants to join and our people in charge obviously agree with him.
He's an ok player, but seriously.
Very hard to come to terms with at the mo.

Nothing will out meme our awful trade but gee, Pies now with 52/55/58 in this draft and no future first.

All in on a decidedly aging group without much depth of young talent whatsoever.

And it wasn't enough to give Richmond pick 3 but for good measure we licked there ringhole and begged them to our 2 picks in the 60s.

We refused to take no for an answer.

We graciously send kind words to Richmond for helping us in this ordeal and we will forever be in their debt for assisting us.

17 other clubs would now be looking at this list management group and laughing at the concept of them playing hard ball.

I think this Warner talk is just a convenient way of excusing this appalling trade.

If we were certain (Warner was coming next year) we could have traded 3 for a potential future top 5 pick and extras.

You're not wrong, and all things being equal with Barrass and Baker that well could've occurred. Or we keep it for ourselves. But that's not how it went unfortunately.

No i'm not happy with Baker for 14. You know that. People also know my opinions on baker.

The club and Richmond have also been ****ed over by the AFL here. That and we were supposed to have future trading 2 years in advance.

Both clubs would have been happy with an extra 200k per year on Graham's contract. Richmond were told it wasn't going to improve their FA pick to tier 3. It was supposed to be Tier 3 compo and our second round pick and the club ended up with both players.

Now that goes through and I think people would be happy with that. Would people still be pissy about pick 12 and 14 for pick 3 in this draft? I don't think so. I would be as pick 14 is 1 pick too late imo. Thanks AFL for sucking st kilda's dick.

I'm pretty sure people can guess who I don't get along with, who is making the largest part of these decisions and it's not myself and who made commitments early when they shouldn't have.

I think people also need to understand just how hard it is to get senior bodies to come to a club deep in the shit and thousands of kilometres away and it has had a major influence on decisions made. You also have to get the players to agree to come to the club. Carlton were always going to offer Owies a contract, it just would have been well unders so no, the club couldn't have taken him as a DFA and with all the smalls Richmond are losing, yes they would have had interest for free in the PSD.

People have seen lots of young highly talented players bodies destroyed by being thrown in the deep end too early at Victorian clubs. Add travel to that and I think people can begin to understand the club just can't select top tier talent and throw it to the wolves.

I'm emotional and pissed off myself, but I really am already pushing the envelope of what I can say already. I may have to come back in here and delete shit again as it is.

Oh and lastly. Yes Freo offered 10,11,18 for Baker and Bolton. Freo so far have stuck to 10 and 18 on Bolton. Now if an easy deal is on the table for 2 players who want to leave back to WA that gets Richmond pretty much everything they want people can guess the reason why those 2 aren't both at Freo.

Apologies I had a lot more written but had to delete.
Thanks for the insight, WCE_phil. I appreciate whatever information you are comfortable in sharing. Sounds like you're stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Can everyone just chill out!

We'll have plenty of high draft picks and cap space in 2026 when Baker retires and Harley leaves.

Sure we'll be a bit light on after trading out of the 2025/26 drafts to acquire a soon to be 26 year old Warner - BUT we'll be ready to bounce once we've traded the Reid picks for DFA Logan McDonald.

Trust the plan!

Over exaggerating a little?
Over exaggerating a little?
Hard to see us improving at all for 2025. Early in 2026 vicco clubs will be in Harleys ear and if the Eagles are still a bottom 4 side you wouldn’t blame him for bailing on us.

The whole sweetener for a country Vic lad having to move over to Perth was that it’s West Coast and we have a history and culture of success. The last 3 years have been anything but and we have 18 months to climb up the ladder before Reid’s decision.

Todays trade makes that climb look very shaky

I am of the opinion that this may be sponsorship driven.

Pyke would be well aware of sponsors tieing their dollars to performance on field and if we have another year of 5 wins and finish bottom 3 again we start to lose sponsors or the dollars start to reduce.

Baker, owies and Graham may just lift us to 8 wins and stop the rot off field.

It's shit but it's quite possible this is sponsorship driven.

Not trying to attack you directly, but laughable if we are thinking of going anywhere without adding elite talent.

We can beat the tiggers (x 2) for the next couple of years, maybe Roos twice this year, plus maybe a couple of upsets at home (i.e. Demons, Bombers).

Crows way better, Saints on the improve as are Pies, Freo and GC.

We are f####ed and I can only think our pygmy brains trust thinks the AFL will be showering us with PP's.

Scotty Cummings for CEO ASAP.

Yeah this ^

Pies going all in so hard it makes the Kelly trade look restrained. Serious gamble where they could crash incredibly badly at the worst possible time with Tassie around.
