There's no getting Freo back in this situation.
They've delisted the bloke.
Any other team are free to talk to him or draft him.
Same goes for any player that is delisted player.
I was thinking like a wrestlers heel turn. Knobel rocks up to the rookie draft in a Fremantle jumper, then “with pick 3, Eagles select Max Knobel”. Cut to picture of Knobel taking off his Fremantle shirt with a WCE one being worn underneath. He walks up onto the stage with Matt Clarke to the outrage of Fremantle. As Matt Clarke boasts about the move, Knobel grabs a trash can and drops the Freo shirt into it

Well, they are planning to rookie him, so it would be a minor inconvenience, but given they have Darcy, Jackson and Reidy, I'm sure they wouldn't care that much.

The ruck situation at the club is absolutely dire. Gone from one of our traditional strengths to well below AFL standard.

Williams has toiled hard for a few years, but isn't really up to the standard we want as first ruck.
Flynn can't get on the park, huge question marks.
Jamieson and Barnett have been moved into new positions and don't seem likely to make it anyway.
Livingstone is a long shot, but tbf that's reflected in his rookie status.

Knobel as a developmental player is a no brainer. Immediate upgrade for the WAFL side also.

As an aside, the Jamieson and Barnett extensions are indicative of a poorly-run club.

Massive boost for their development that they actually have a reserves + an actual selection squeeze down there. Can recognise that both Knobel and Reidy are #1 rucks and play them as such rather than shoehorning one to the forward pocket like we'd have to do.

Never a truer word spoken. Which is why if we can't sort out an alignment (very unlikely unfortunately) I still think spreading the players amongst the rest of the WAFL clubs is a much better solution than our current setup. Barnett would benefit so much more playing WAFL ressies as a full time ruck for example

But we need to keep them all together to learn the gameplan (which is losing by 10+ goals apparently) so let's keep doing it

Rant over

Fifty hit outs in some of these WAFL games means f*** all.
I haven’t seen him at all.
How does he move around the ground?
Is he a good kick?
Can he hold his own on a marking contest?
Is he aggressive?
Yes we need a ruckman but piling on for the sake of it ?

Picking up Knobel in the RD with pick 3 makes sense, unless….

….we’ve already approached him to ask for a trade or have/do approach him to sign on as a DFA but were told he’s not interested

Then drafting a player who has already said he doesn’t want to join the club, even as a rookie, makes no sense

But that won’t stop some of you from melting about how soft we are when we don’t call his name out

Starting to lose track of all the no-brainers we should be taking as DFA's.

Jack Caroll, no brainer
Trent Knobell, no brainer
Denver Tom-Barrass, meh whats the harm
Tom Clurey, hey that's free depth sign him up
Ethan Phillips, better than both those other guys so add him in as well
Coby Burgeil, well if he gets through the preseason unscathed
Josh Rotham, what was that instagram post all about eh?

Do we actually want to draft any players this year or?

**** Richmond and them getting 2 and Norths F1 for 6 and 11. Cut a deal with North for their f1 for 12 and a f2/3 and make Richmond accept 2 and an f2 for 6 and 11, which is more than fair.

Gives us 3 f1's next year plus our haul of f2s and 3s.

Bundle up all our f2s and f3s and get back into this draft with another pick [or 2] in the 20's and call it a day.

I like it.

Well, the rookie draft is done 100% online, no tv, no stage, no cameras… but if we can convince the AFL to change that due to the significant national audience pull of 2 teams in checks notes Western Australia then we are on!

I hope we have a chat to him and seriously consider him, but doubt Freo care that much if he is poached.

Not sure why he wouldn't be interested.
He is already here.
His development would be quicker as he would get a regular Wafl game and possibly a Afl debut sooner.
Mind you after seeing how Dev Robertson has bungled his chances of regular Afl games anything is possible.

As a minimun if he ticks the boxes make him an offer.

The bloke just got sacked.

If he can get a 3 year deal he can set himself up with confidence the club is willing to back him with a main list spot. Freo hasn't done that nor offered that.

As a DFA he will be an UFA every time he comes out of contract. Set himself up with some security and get experience and cash in.

Can Knoble be signed as a DFA? If so its a no brainer.
Yes.
AFL is a business and players move, get cut and end up elsewhere. The Ruck Merry Go Round 2024 is up and going.

Knoble is a 206cm pure ruck (forward craft.?) and will turn 21 in June next year. So still some way to go in his development. And many rucks peak in their late 20's and even early 30's. He a longer term prospect, good age and potential.

If Collingwood or some such sign him that would.......... annoy.
Probably Geelong.
