Interesting move. Tom Berry is a surprise as he hasn't played much football and I thought he was a shadow of his older brother. Confusing by Suns.

Pick 7 and Bowes makes a lot of sense. Local Qld lad and adds to the depth in a contender.

Pick 7 adds them 1,644 points and could be the top 10 pick that gets Dunkley

In
Bowes including excess of $850k over 2 years salary dump
Dunkley with pick 7
Ashcroft - 2,400 points to match
Fletcher - around 750 points to match
Pick 34 compensation for MacStay

Out
MacStay
Matching points
  • pick 15 worth 1,112 points for about 1,600 points
  • pick 33 worth 563 points
  • pick 34 worth 542 points
  • pick 44 worth 362 points
  • pick 69 worth 49 points
A future second rounder to Suns - pick 33 will get them say Suns pick 31 of 606 points
(above points tally is 3,234 means that they will have enough points

So no need for selling Robertson
I would expect this means a very tight salary cap
Agree that from this point Brisbane looks his most likely destination.
If so do we then offer Bulldogs 2 for 7 & 11?

There’s still Naish, Witherden, West, Winder and Trew without contracts for next year

I can only see probably 1, or at most 2, of that group being offered a new contract.
Naish West and trew are all rookies . Replacing them with more rookies doesn't really improve the talent of our list and all 3 are not worthy of a list spot in a top 8 team going forward .

No idea why witherden hasn't been delisted . Maybe someone has shown interest in him

It certainly looks as if the ducks are falling into line for Brisbane. I still think we'll get Robertson though as Bowes would push him further down the pecking order.

Bowes probably pushes Rich out of the 22.
If push comes to shove, Mathieson goes to the bottom of our midfield depth chart.

Bowes to Brisbane isn't a done deal yet.

It’s like looking in the Mirror; for West Coast fans, Richmond fans, Collingwood fans (well there’s those missing teeth to be accounted for)…

Well there is the whole redneck hillbilly thing going on in queensland, particularly the further north you go. It's like middle america white trash.

The Jackson money is there, that has been confirmed.

And you believe we can't find or have an additional $500k to spend? It isn't hard to imagine.

It could be simply Witherden is also let go and Redden moves to the Rookie list.

Next year we have big contracts ending as well as a number of players retiring. The following year even more so.

Seems that injured players salary in some amount falls outside the cap. With all our injuries this year maybe we banked some of that by moving 2023 salaries into 2022.

Fact is we don't know how we have managed our cap and if we banked a heap this year due to long term injuries.

If Geelong can afford to keep signing FA's and trade in guns I'm confident the Eagles can find an additional $500k on top of the Jackson money. Personally I don't see Jackson coming to us anyway.
Going to be interesting in the future given clubs are able to trade players by taking on salary with little compensation. Clubs at lower end will have space and sides at the top will have players likely being overpaid.
We should have plenty of space in 2 years, will help accelerate rebuild with allowance to trade players without giving up draft picks or emerging talent

Hey, we’re not attacking whole States and making unflattering generalisations, etc.

I’m fair game here, and by extension my club, I’ve no problem with that, and am more than happy with good natured banter.

But, being on an oppo board, if I’m to return serve, I’m more likely to get booted, and I do enjoy my time here.

Bob Katter likes this.

I believe the attachment of draft picks will be just as important, if not more so.

The AFL isn’t at the level US sports are at, so the player still gets to nominate his preferred destination.

We haven’t seen too many salary dump players end up at a bottom clubs (Stephenson and Phillips are the two I recall).

If more destination teams start asking for decent picks to be attached to the salary dump player in a trade, that’s going to change the dynamics of trade period quite a lot, potentially to the longer term detriment of the team dumping the player.

I'm curious to know how many free kicks your clubs needs to land a premiership ? Eagles got very little assistance in landing 2018 premiership. If Brisbane can't land a premiership this decade with all the academy and father sons then that is a massive under performance. Eagles last 2 flags came from hard work sweat and tears, most of brisbanes success this decade will come from having its hand out.

Edit. Ok Dogs get 7 for Dunkley..

7 and 11 are niice picks.

They likely get you two of Phillapou, McKenzie, Busllinger, Hewitt or Clark.

They would want something else, future 3rd or Ports future 2nd?

We’ll take them any way we can get them.

I don’t see any asterisks on the 01 to 03 teams. Nor Geelong’s 11 team.

Father son kids are luck of the draw. As for academy kids, well that’s inside AFL rules to.

Weren’t both Judd and Darling priority picks?

The AFL paying more than half of Buddy's salary was in the rules as well for a while.

Until everyone else found out.

Put Narkle in the middle and Kelly / Shuey on the HFF.
It was thought and one of the options in my head, I just didnt wanna kick the hornets nest of potential nuffies, so i targeted the current whipping boy
