Don't agree.

Every year all clubs should be looking to improve their list in any means possible.

If you can replace the two bottom rated players with solid role players that do not cost high draft picks then you look at it.

If you can improve your list by signing free agents or delisted free agents you do it.

Look at every premiership side. Not every player is a 1st or 2nd round draft pick.

If we replace Trew and Nelson with Hunt and Narkle and it costs us zero draft capital why wouldn't we do it?

If we use a later 2nd rounder pick 25+ to land a young rated fringe player of need like a Robertson you do it.

Great post.......absolutely spot on. :thumbsu:

There are several ways to improve your list.

Everyone gets enamoured with the high end draft picks that are either costly in draft capital or $$$$, while ignoring, the notion that by improving your teams bottom six and list players players 22-30, are both a much cheaper, yet very effective method for incremental list improvement.

I like the pick up of Narkle if it goes ahead. Imo he would play most weeks. Also helps he is very good mates with Shai Bolton who is out of contract next year. I’m sure we are setting aside a lot of coin ready for this. (Even if it is unlikely)

Most likely if he comes in, it’ll be as quite literally the last spot on our list - a DFA after the rookie draft has concluded

The other alternatives for that are the likes of West, Winder, Trew or some other DFA/late rookie pick

Much like Jones was and even on the harshest judgment he’s at least been handy for us
I would like Narkle to work out but don’t feel confident.

The point of getting Kelly, Jones and Narkle for what we paid for Kelly would be a more palatable viewing.

That said, I’m not a Narkle fan. Too many of our players don’t run as hard both ways and this adds to and not solves the problem.

Hunt on the other hand starts to solve it

Good point with Bolton.

I dont see him moving but if he did Narkle may just swing him our way.

Narkle when fit and played on ball is a decent player. Who knows how he would go given an extended run of games.

Same goes for Trew. He is also younger and needs a decent run of games without injury.

Agree XON looked a lot better but the reality is Narkle>XON all day, every day.

Both worthy of another year to see what they can do.
What, how do you figure that?

XON is a good young player and last preseason added a ton of size so he seems to be working hard.

Reckon he could easily reach a redden 2018 level.

Exactly what we need to do.
Gaff & Shuey to go, move the interstaters on.
Get the cash ready for Shai Bolton.

So it’s agreed, give Sparkle Narkle a go.

Cool Hair.

Will go well with the headband guy.
With Masten's retirement last year and Nelson's delisting this year, there is a clear vacancy for two whipping boys.

Don’t want Shai Bolton, will cost too much.

Also it’s not like Shuey will be on a big contract, I imagine he’s getting paid less than 300k this year.

The club said they want A graders.
A graders cost money.
I thought this was really simple.

Narkle is a weird one. No doubt, he can play quality football at his best.
Trouble is he is an undersized mid, I don't think he's suited to any other role. As a few of us have ready mentioned, is not a great two way runner.

Perhaps a role as creative mid off the back of the square?

He does improve the bottom half of our list regardless and his experience at Geelong would be invaluable to our young guys.

Looks as though we're transition from becoming the most boring team (style) in the AFL to the most exciting reading between the lines. I'm pumped for next year already!!!

Because I like this exercise, here are the number of players picked in the 50s who played 50 games from 2006 to 2015:

2006 - 3/10
2007 - 3/10
2008 - 2/10
2009 - 0/10
2010 - 3/10
2011 - 2/10
2012 - 2/10
2013 - 7/10
2014 - 4/10
2015 - 6/10

A strike rate of 32%. Trending upwards recently but still effectively a gamble that you even get a somewhat serviceable player out of a pick in the 50s.
I'd rather take a chance on a pick 50+ than simply pass. Worth a chance esp if rookie listed to start with. Who knows?

Nic was the solo hair guy for much of his career. It's nice to see us surround him with other hair guys.

Clubs rarely pass at that stage anyway.

But what I meant with that post was to support the point made earlier about unreasonable wailing over giving up a pick 50+ for SPS. Yes, it is often active at the stage and yes, you can get a good player with that pick - but once you get to those draft numbers it's a significant gamble as to whether you even get someone that can play more than a handful of games.
