GWS hit the draft with picks 2 and 3.
Eagles hit the draft with 12, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 (Rioli).

Seems like a massive win win and yes we probably don’t get that high end star this year but six picks in the 12-27 range seems like a no brainer for where our list profile is at.

Caveat as always is that I know * all about this draft class but I’m a big believer across all sports in throwing as many darts as you can, especially inside the early rounds.

So it'll be like say

2014

Petracca and Brayshaw

vs

Corey Ellis, Blaine Boekhorst, Jayden Laverde, Hugh Goddard, Toby Mclean, Lukas Webb

What im trying to say is its subject to whose available at pick 15...If hewitt is there i would make that trade because he wont get to pick 15

I’d much rather 15 than both of 26 and 27 personally, at 15 there’ll 110% be a great option that slides

I doubt we would give 26 & 27 for a 5 pick upgrade on 20.

Especially with the Lions chasing picks for points. Pick 15 will slide. May get used. And if the Lions do trade in other few 2nd rounders they are also used.

I would hold our cards until after trade week unless a really good pick swap is offered. Let them come to us. If not we use our good picks.

Yep would be much more likely 26 & 27 for 15. I havent really looked to closely at the Lions list but trading in a heap of late picks would mean they would have to have quite a few list spots available. Thats going to be quite a juggling act for a team that was 1 win from a gf.

In all seriousness though, would GWS even be amenable to that kind of swap? I'd be happy if we managed to pull that off.

If Norf don't bid on Ashcroft and we do, can Brisbane then trade with us for picks too use on Ashcroft?

Yeah I believe so, but if it comes to that that’s when we go to Brisbane and say we won’t bid on Ashcroft if you do a deal for 15 with us or something

For the sake of it, Let's dissect Narkles input Quinton Narkle hasn't really done anything to prove his anything more the XON
You could make a case that XON has been less in the system but has been on steady rise each season and is improving at a better rate then Narkles. Narkles stats are not that impressive. This will be his sixth season in the AFL. Nothing indicates he is better then XON or warrants selection over XON. If anything it's the other way around. XON>Narkle

He is also injury prone. Has previously Torn ACL, had hamstring injuries I hope the Eagles don't pull the trigger.

Really depends on how we view the draft. I've heard most experts say there is a top 9 or so and then throw a blanket over the next 20-30 players and there is no clear order. If thats the case, i'd rather 26 and 27. If our recruiters think there is a really clear top 12-15 then go for 15.

2015 I'd take the group of six. But fair point.

Exactly.

Madness to trade so far out of the top 2/3 for a whole pile of middling talent (for the most part).

Absolutely no need to split pick 2 (unless we can get 2 top 10 picks somehow). With Rioli leaving we should have enough 2nd rounders to trade up for another late 1st rounder if need be.

Yeah unless we’re getting a top 7 pick and another first I’m not interested in splitting 2

20,26, 27 (Rioli trade) and 38 is more than enough capital to move up

Drafting is getting better, though...

And in the hypothetical we don't have both picks 2 and 3 anyway, so the comparison needs to be modified in that regard. In 2015 for example, everyone would take that group of six over Josh Schache.

Nice work. Agreed you’d prefer 2 and 3. Difference is we don’t get both 2 and 3 in any situation.

If GWS wanted the deal it becomes what do you like more for the Eagles;
2, 20, 26, 27.
12, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27.
