Does anyone think Swans would do 12+26 for 14+17? If we are targeting Hewett with 12, I reckon he'll be there at 14 too.
Afl article saying swans want to trade both 14 + 17 for a higher pick .

8 for 14 + 17 ?

Go to the draft with 12 14 17 20 26

so we pick mummies boys who will not leave home? This is dumb stuff. There is not history of this being an issue with WC. We actually hang on to too much dead wood from interstate. Wasn't Cuz our last WA captain?
Pick a Gun at 2 - if they want out later they are guns with high trade value (unless you are WC)

Glass.

If you can throw a blanket over the first 10 kids in the draft, you go local. Don’t think that’s very contentious

Will only do top 10 missing WCE pick.

1. BL - Ashcroft
2. GWS - Cadman
3. NM - Wardlaw
4. NM - Sheezel
5. Ess - Tsatas
6. GC - Hollands
7. Haw - Clark
8. Geel - Busslinger
9. WCE - ****
10. Stk - Jefferson

I see Busslinger as a Smokey to Norf as they lack a tall defensive interceptor to assist McKay therefore Wardlaw slides to Essendon..

Yeah for me this is the part I like most about the trade. We will have 2x R2 and 2x R 3 and GC will be buying. Good chance of 2 x top 10 for us next year in an excellent draft.
The deal isn't the worst but think we could have gotten something better on draft night and don't like the fact we have helped Port out.
North and GWS will feel they owe us a little down the track I think as we facilitated something that got them what they want. Port should too but we now know they are campaigners so not counting on it.
If Port go premiers we get 36 and 54 befire FS, academy etc. Wow we. GWS will oiwe us - LOL they are a PROFESSIONAL outfit.

Just put your Port hats on and think about the last 13 months

They give us pick 26 to slide back 2 places and get the player we wanted in the first place.

They give us F2 and F3 for Rioli which (if Port go premiers) is worth pick 27 in a stronger draft than their 27 this year and could be more like pick 20 in points. And we have known sellers already in 2023 who really want points. I wish him well but I would be worried that he will find a way of stuffing up in the next 4 years.

We get 2 picks for the price of 1 in 2022 as I see such evenness in the 4 to 15 range

For those who think we have been reamed by Port, I am OK. I obviously want them to fail in 2023 but more for the value of their future picks than for any bitterness.

We did a pick downgrade from 6 to 11 one year to get Elliot Yeo over, and since we were targeting Dom Sheed and we were quite convinced he would still be there at 11 anyway.

Were we morons that time?
Must have missed the young talented player we acquired in this trade as a result of the downgrade. Silly comparison

We really have become a deplorable club if that becomes reality.
We surely have something up our sleeves. 2 potentially third-tier (in terms of placement this draft) midfield prospects is not what we need. Ginbey in particular has a poorly rounded game. An athletic prospect with very questionable decision making and skills who doesn't get much of the ball. He has been hyped up beyond his output recently. Hewett on the other hand has received the opposite treatment imo (covid impacted, playing regular seniors football and not standing out but holding his spot).

I would be ok with the following:

8: Busslinger or MacKenzie (I'm not sold on Phillipou but would not mind if Eagles backed themselves in for a punt)
12: Hewett, Hotton, Humphry or Hustwaite
20: One of the above H's who slides (too early for Darcy Jones)

I may be in the minority for Busslinger, but he's one of the few elite talents in this draft (and I'm far from convinced by H.Edwards), so we could take advantage of his injury-related slide and still pick up a decent midfield prospect at 12. This is one of the few eventualities where splitting pick 2 provides a clear advantage. However, it's likely that both Busslinger and MacKenzie will be gone by 8, leaving us with prospects from the next tier down (pick 8 might well be the transitional pick in this draft).

I still believe Wardlaw will prove a worthy pick 2. The hamstring issues must be conctextualised in that he's an explosive 17 year old in a non-professional setting (he stated in an article that he was personally making the decisions to continue playing or to rest in repsonse to his injuries). If Wardlaw slides, it will be because multiple AFL clubs have serious concerns about his hamstrings. But, if as I suspect, he is taken at 2, there I'd have preferred it was us using that pick.

Melbourne just traded a former pick 3 who won the rising star award for two picks in the mid teens

Taranto was similar

Gold Coast about broke even for Rankine

Players out of contract asking for a return home are hard to get full value for, it’s not impossible but it’s rare

We’ve picked 5 WA first round picks in 20 years if I’m not mistaken: Sampi, Masten, Naitanui, Sheppard, Sheed. It’s not a foregone conclusion we will be going for the WA boys, and if we do, I think that data indicates it will be because we think they are the best available.

Fairly Hobbs or Sinn > Chesser. It was the last of the 2nd tier players we gave up for that 2nd rounder. Likely owed port a little goodwill

You know there was another gun player who didn't want to leave Vic but got drafted by us. If I remember right he had a pretty good career with us. What was his name - that's right Chris Judd. Yes he left in the end but we got a premiership, Brownlow and Norm smith out of him. Pretty happy we took the punt.

If there was a bloke as good as Judd at the top of this draft, we wouldn’t have traded. It’s that simple. That was the best draft ever, and it was known as such at the time too.

Wardlaw is giving the same vibes that Smith and Perkins have done about not being keen to go interstate. Knowing that having Wardlaw and Sheezel doing an Cerra in 2 to 3 years, how would you feel?

Was there actually any talk of Judd not wanting to be drafted interstate?

He stayed six years and re-signed twice, and at the time he left Carlton drove a rubbish truck full of money up to his house, plus he had a partner who wanted to get into television.

He’ll be pick 12.
You really love being obtuse. No that's not right. That's a pick, it's not actually a player. A pick turns into a player once used in the draft.

The downgrade when we got sheed resulted in us gaining an extra 2nd rounder. This allowed us to use on of the two 2nd rounders one drafting Elliot Yeo. See Elliot Yeo is a player and not a pick. In fact player who had shown enough to indicate that at minimum he'd be 150 game player even if we didn't expect him to win multiple best and fairest.

So I ask again, which young gun player did we acquire. Silly comparison.
