I would assume Hurn & maybe West the only other players we'll re-sign.
So as it stands we'll have 4 picks in the ND and 3 more spots for the rookie draft & SSP players.
I still would've liked the flexibility of being able to make an extra selection in case there's a slider but unfortunately pick 40 is gone.

Could Dewar be our 5th selection if bid on after 40?

Also feel we will pick up Narkle.

Narkle is a wasted list position.
Id be throwing as many darts as possible at 18 yr olds and see if anyone comes on quickly. Rookie list as well so this cycling through of the last year of poor contracts (Langdon, Rotham)has to end

Lets churn through 20% extra players and even if only 1 comes good it will have been worth it.

Hey WCE_phil have you got any thoughts about the 2 NGA kids Dewar & Baker?

Where do you see them likely to be picked up if they are picked up at all? If they are bid on after 40 would you match it?

Do you think they might slide all the way to the Cat B list?

GWS pick 18 or 19. Or both.

Pick 20 and F2nd for 18 and 19.

Ports preferably.
I would look to upgrade 26 and Port F3 for 19

Then draft night hope there is a slider and sell 20 for sliding back in the 20s and a future 2nd

Go into next year with 1xR1, 3xR2 and 1xR1

That's 5 in top 40 a strong draft

And taking 8,12, 19 and 24-28 this year

OK, my take from what I've read/heard on who goes where and who might be left for us.

1 Bris - Ashcroft
2 GWS - Cadman - Seems to obvious reason to move up
3 NM - Wardlaw - They have heaps of mids so taking a punt on an injury risk for his upside is possible
4 NM - Busslinger - Enough mids and need an interceptor
5 Ess - ??
6 GC - Hollands - Been rumored to join his brother all year
7 Haw - ??
8 Geel - Clark
9 WC - ??
10 STK - McKenzie
11 Carlton - ??
12 WB - ??
13 WC - ??

That leaves Phillipou, Tsitas, Sheezal, Humphries, Ginbey and Hewett as the most likely to go in the spots in question.

Much will depend on who NM take at 4 then Ess at 5 and Haw at 7.

It seems a sound trade, although hopefully Port stays down for another year. Still two days.

I can understand the melts on an emotional level as we haven't had a pick #2 in a long while, not since 2008, and after arguably our worst season you need a bit of beacon hope. For another club more recently familiar with that draft position it would be less of a big deal to put that on the table. But they've made their judgment and we'll see in time.

4 NM - Sheezel (they need forward line class as well)
5 Ess - Tsitsas hard to pass up here
6 GC - Hollands - Been rumored to join his brother all year / Busslinger a chance here otherwise he slides to WB
potentially

7 Haw - Humphries
8 Geel - Clark
9 WC - Phillipou - jus ****en do it!!!!
10 STK - McKenzie
11 Carlton - Ginbey
12 WB - Busslinger - need a key defender badly
13 WC - Hewett - the most predictable of predictable picks

That leaves Phillipou, Tsitas, Sheezal, Humphries, Ginbey and Hewett as the most likely to go in the spots in question.

Jhye Clark is a Geelong boy so they might go for him plus he has those 'leadership qualities' that they love, and maybe he'll be a future Joel Selwood.

Are we done with trade week? I'd assume so unfortunately.

"Port Adelaide has offered Pick 33 for Geelong big man Esava Ratugolea, reports The Age’s Peter Ryan.

The Power nabbed Pick 33 as part of Monday’s historic mega grade as they now turn their attention to landing Ratugolea, who’s contracted for next season but seeking more senior opportunities.

While Geelong has said it’s keen to retain Ratugolea, the Cats could use Pick 33 as valuable currency to get a deal done with Collingwood for Ollie Henry.

Speaking on AFL Trade Radio, Power footy boss Chris Davies admitted talks with Geelong for Ratugolea so far have been “pretty slow to be honest.”

“We have got pick 33 now, and that is the pick we have earmarked for Esava if that is what Geelong is willing to take for him,” he said."

We let this happen. Us. Our complete lack of balls let Port hold onto pick 33 and will likely mean, that because of us, they have got Rioli, JHF and Esava to their club

Seriously, we may as well start a collaboration with Pjur or Vaseline so at least we get some lubricant next year

I think letting Port get Esava is a great move by us.

He's not a good AFL level footballer.

I think he’ll make a capable physical tall defender, which they need given the undersized/intercept types they have in those positions now.

They’re recruiting well and could be Top 6 next year IMO. Doesn’t bode that well for our future picks.

I think the success of the trade we have just made won't be felt for another 12 months. If our future 2 and 3 along with our 2023 2nd gets bundled into a top ten pick from say gold coast, searching for points then I think everyone will be alot happier this time next year. Ideally we can get into curtins ear about staying in WA and take him around this point.

Looking at this year, Hewett worries me. Some have made apologies regarding COVID I think comparatively we've got to be hoping there's an alternative pick at 12 and that, whilst highly unlikely, the interstate factor holds a slim chance he slides to 20. I think we'll likely prioritise Ginbey at 8 but I'm hoping someone does something funky and one of Humphries, Phillipou, Mckenzie, Busslinger are there at our pick 12.

I think with the players we're looking at raw talent isn't going to be the deciding factor in their cmparative success as much as application/desire, which is why I don't mind Ginbey. If we prioritise players with elite standards/preparation it'll go a long way to heading in the right direction.

North traded out pick 1 and JHF (last years pick 1) for 2,3,40,43, Ports F1 and Freo’s F3

It’s almost as if the two clubs with players wanting out and who’s actions had impacted their trade value weren’t able to get full value for those players

Hmm I do wonder if WCE sometimes spray their load because of combine results.

Petch was picked because of his combine
Duggan was picked because of his combine
XON
Nic was picked because of his combine
Now Ginsby & Hewieitt because of it.

Fast forward 2023. I dude we never heard of who is from WA gets a good combine result. WELP TIME TO GET HIM. Maybe I'm on to something seems rather lazy recruiting
Are you serious or mocking? I normally enjoy your posts but you are super pi$$ed with the trade and venting or joking

If Port have a slow start to their season the pressure on Hinkley will mount really fast. If that happens, crash and burn very much on the cards.

But with a soft draw courtesy of their ladder position this year, I'd put money on them sitting top 6 most of the season more so than bottom 6.

Again, if you aren't getting paid full price would you not take what you have an go to the draft?

Our goal isn't to assist other clubs achieve their goals, our goal is to make sure that if we are going to entertain offers from other clubs to help broker these deals, that we are getting paid way overs to do so, otherwise, don't bother

We seems to have very little idea of negotiating and leverage. Another club makes a proposal to us and we meekly say "yes sir" and roll over

It is frustrating because this team seems to be permeated by the stench of weakness across all levels of the club at the moment

What if Chesser and our first rounders are instantly Judd, Cousins, Kerr

Be nice if they are anywhere near that level.
Remember the young Eagles outfit taking down the Lions in 2003 in Brisbane was when that group and Judd really announced themselves.
Kerr 2000 draft
Judd 2001
It still took them 2-3 years of development and they were freaks.

A product of total job security for everyone.
Simpson, Nisbett, S&C, Rohan "job for life" O'Brien, credits in the bank crew. Worst season in club history, zero accountability from any of them. They're all comfortable in the knowledge that no matter how shit a job they do, they all get a pat on the back and a fat cheque in the mail. In such an environment, why would you challenge yourself?

Looks like we intend using 4 picks in the draft - 8,12,20,26.

Assuming Hurn does eventually re-sign as expected but not officially confirmed, we have 34 contracted players, of which only Culley is on the rookie list

After the main draft we’ll have 4 overall list spots - 1 main/3 rookies or 4 rookies

Witherden, Winder, West(R) and Trew (R) are still uncontracted as far as we know, although Witherden’s status is unclear.

I can see us using 3 picks in the rookie draft, one or two of which might be used to redraft from that quartet

Leaving one spot open for a train on player to be selected as a DFA or SSP selection

Based on absolutely nothing I suspect Broadbent is our new Darling in a tent and I hope we pick him up for peanuts late on.
