Actually I’m not sure and apologise for stating that as fact. I’d have to check

My source is well connected in the S&C world and I challenged him by saying it’s not like WCE to go public then do something different …. He just smirked at me

Didn’t dig too deep but this I found with Hagdorn reporting Nisbett was backing the support staff. So nothing direct from Nisbett but comments indirectly attributed to him by our favourite journo
Well... *.

West Coast is set to stick with the same support staff personnel for the 2023 season the disappointing year just gone the club has faced.

That’s according to veteran Western Australian journalist Kim Hagdorn, who said a meeting on Thursday between management indicated support staff were likely to hold their jobs.

The Eagles suffered a shocking run with injuries throughout 2022, particularly earlier in the year, which led to spluttering momentum and just a two-win campaign.

West Coast had 14 players on its injury just days out from Round 1 and required top-up players to get through the early parts of the season.

“West Coast had a meeting today (Thursday) with all their top footy people and looking at the business plan, all indications are there’s going to be a massive reprieve for all the support staff,” Hagdorn told SEN WA’s Drive.

“Warren Kofoed - strength and conditioning manager, will stay, Glenn Stewart (high-performance manager), the doctors, the physiotherapists (will all stay).”

Drive co-host Peter Vlahos replied: “I thought there was going to be a clean out”, to which Hagdorn added, “Didn’t everybody?”

“But it looks very much as though Trevor Nisbett (West Coast CEO) is tipped to endorse them to be given the one last chance to get this right next season.”

The Age journalist Caroline Wilson said earlier this year West Coast had endured the worst off-season of all 18 clubs “by a million miles”, and Hagdorn suggested the Eagles didn’t return fit for the year.

He added there’s a similar fear for 2023.

“The concern is at West Cast that all these blokes who couldn’t cope with pre-season training last year because they came back late and came back unfit… (will do the same again)” Hagdorn said.

“My understanding is Adam Simpson is very concerned with the time off, they’re off for eight weeks now, come back December 4, so all these old blokes then train for three weeks then have another three weeks off over Christmas, (the club is) concerned about whether they’re going to be able to get themselves fit and healthy on their own.”

West Coast has committed to a rebuild under Simpson, and the premiership coach will expect an injection of youth for the 2023 season.

The club currently has picks 2, 20, 26 and 38 in the upcoming National Draft. They’re also expected to land Port Adelaide’s compensation pick for the departing Karl Amon if the Power trade for forward Willie Rioli.

If our strength and conditioning team is indeed being gutted and re staffed that would be the single greatest thing that has come out of a wretched 2022 season
Whole program to be replaced.

I’m tempering expectations

Not doubting you just waiting to see what happens and just how far it goes

Not usually a fan of the DFA route but of all the options, I think James Rowe could do well in Junior’s place

Wanted Rowe in his draft year.:thumbsu:

Would be a great Rioli and Cripps replacement, only 23.

High footy IQ. Would run rings around Petruccelle without being faster than him.

I'd take a punt on Narkle or Rowe, train on's.
Bloke has 27 goals in 36 games as a forward.

Let's learn from the Langdon mistake, eh?

Me also

It’s not guaranteed that the club will look at different S&C program - but it was pleasing to hear it is open to new programs

I guess it’s possible that we retain staff but change procedures

Just as long as we don’t keep doing what we have been because it hasn’t been working

Also happy that for the time being, the club isn’t making a big song and dance about it. I’d much prefer we just went about changing stuff quietly behind the scenes

Letting fans now about contract extensions and the like however…….

We are so behind the times with s and c

How so? In what aspects is the program behind the times?

My son was watching something from 2020 and Nic was standing in this chamber wearing a breathing mask with a clear door. When it opened all this cold mist was released andNic was there no shirt, face mask looking like Darth freakin Vader.

Thought wtf is going on there. Never seen anything like it.

They want us interested enough to buy membership and merch

Not interested enough to question how things are run .

As a die hard fan I have found myself caring less about this club due to all their poor decisions, lack of accountability and actually seem to be taking an interest in a couple of other clubs my friends support.

Don't get me wrong I'll always be a west coast supporter but going to games or watching games live seems less of a priority.
I found myself getting disengaged this year from the actual games but I realised the solution is to re-set want you want out of a season. When your team is up, it's all about the wins and trying to get a flag. When it is down, it's about seeing the kids develop and the gameplan change.

I am quite excited to see how the young guys go next year. It will be great to see which become A Graders in the next few seasons. Then the ultimate excitement will be those first few glimmers of a new team being able to perform (shock wins etc) followed by the unexpected jump up the ladder.

I still remember how pumped the subi crowd was when we won in rnd 1 2011, after having won the spoon in 2010. The excitement built through the year and the next thing we knew we were back in finals!

Or 2015 when we won that qualifying final against the Hawks. The crowd and team were out for blood and the Hawks absolutely shat themselves.

There's bright days ahead. Going through the down years makes it all worthwhile in the end.

Comments like this piss me off tbh.

Very simple, generalised statements without any thought or research.

Comparing totally different players with different circumstances and backgrounds.

Do you know how many games Rowe played as the medi sub? In a period where the player was drafted as an 18 year old playing as a small forwards for the Crows who were a bottom 3 side rebuilding.

Did you actually stop and think about the player before making such a sweeping, generalised statement? Nah, didn't think so.

I understand that it’s both to be replaced. A complete overhaul

This is the best footy news I’ve heard all year. I know we have a very low bar, but still.

We need our best players out there to be remotely competitive, and we just haven’t had that for far too long.

Fingers crossed.

So, we've got Withileaks for another season.

Do we spend the off season teaching him to defend and back him in with his current role?

OR...does he move up the ground...and if so, where could he even go with the traits that he does/doesn't possess?

Gee. Settle down.

Why is he being cut from a well below average list, out of interest? I will admit I don’t follow the Crowbots too closely.

I understand they have Rachele and now Rankine, but if he was a reasonable prospect you’d think they’d have kept him.

The new breed of physiotherapy that assesses and rebuilds your body to prevent injuries.

Brisbane and hawthorn use it.

The problem with Rowe, Narkle etc is that list spots are becoming scarce

As it stands there’s only 7 left (4 main + 3 rookie) with picks 8,12,20,26 to fill the 4 main list spots

There’s a possibility we move a contracted player from the main list to the rookie list to create a main list spot to use in the draft if there’s a slider late - someone like Broadbent as an example

We’ve then got pick 2 in the rookie draft so we’d be using that and if we don’t use a late draft pick, there’d be a strong chance we take an extra rookie with pick 20 in the RD

That leaves a solitary spot. Do we give one if West, Winder or Trew one more chance or pick up someone as a SSP after looking at them as a train on player. Given we’ve made no announcement on the future of those 3 uncontracted players, I suspect the club intends keeping one of them, maybe 2 depending on the quality available in the rookie draft
